Is Mfl Compulsory Or Optional At Gcse Level

What does MFL mean? Please help?

MFL stands for Modern Foreign Language.

Picking gcse options?

My head of year said to me last year: "Take a subject you enjoy, take a subject you are good at and take a subject which has interest to you"

That's what I done and I haven't looked back since.

I chose sociology (I'm in Year 10 currently), and I am thoroughly enjoying it. If your interested in learning about the family (how it's structured, it's Impact on society, view on it etc), education and crime then you'd enjoy it. It's quite easy and involves a bit of debating,

Psychology would be looked higher upon though - if I had the choice I defiantly would have chosen this subject (they unfortunately don't teach it at GCSE level in my school). I've already decided to take it at A level though. It's all about the mind and how it works I believe.

R.E is compulsory at my school, so you could say I took it. It's quite interesting actually - and it focuses on a much wider, more controversial range of topics than what you probably would have learnt about in Year 7-9.

A few of my friends from school chose Geography as an option, but they don't seem to really enjoy it. They often complain about the amount of work/commitment that it involves, they also have referred to it as boring. I never liked it personally..

What about a MFL? Do you learn Spanish, French or German? They could come in handy later in life so if your good at languages, why not take it?

Hope this helps!
