Is My Dog Just A Midgit Or Is It The Breed

What is the strangest mixed breed dog you have ever seen or had?

I’ve only seen pictures, but a pretty unusual mix was an English Bulldog and a German Shepherd. It looked a little bit like a pig with German Shepherd coloring. It even had the corkscrew tail. It looked a bit ferocious, but cute at the same time.My current mixed breed rescue is Papillon and Chihuahua. I don’t approve of people breeding mutts on purpose, since the world is full of wonderful, adorable dogs in desperate need of homes, but this little girl was wandering in the desert, and wasn’t even 6 weeks old, and our dogs found her, and we had to rescue her.She would be adorable (even though I don’t care for small dogs myself) except she’s kind of made of “spare parts” - she was born with her lower jaw only about 2/3 the length it should be, so she has a crazy overbite, and none of her teeth match (she couldn’t bite if she wanted to, because her teeth don’t line up correctly, and she is missing a lot of them), neither of her kneecaps are attached to her knees, she was born with a large umbilical hernia, and more stuff - and whoever had her must have dumped her for the coyotes or hawks to eat.Reyna, a few days after the dogs found her - 6 weeks old.Reyna now, healthy, happy.

What is the largest middle-sized dog breed or the smallest large-size dog breed?

What people consider "middle" and "large" varies, and there is no set weight for each breed- there is a range of weights acceptable in show for both sexes, and many, many purebreeds fall outside the standard weight. I know several people who consider a 40lb. dog to be absolutely huge (which is completely foreign to me- they're barely in the middle in my mind). So there's really no way to answer your question unless you have an exact weight range in mind, and if you're looking for a companion, I'd definitely focus on the dog's other needs rather than their weight in terms of whether it fits with your lifestyle. Energy level, playfulness, stubbornness... there are so many more traits that should be far more important. And no one will be able to tell you if your purebred female Vizla will be exactly 39.7 or 55.1 lbs, or if she'll fall outside that range when she gets older. It's pointless to freeze a sliding scale- you don't ever get the whole picture that way. That said, if you have an exact weight in mind, it's a pretty simple thing to look dogs up by size and find dogs with that potential weight.

Are there any dog breeds that you think should stop being bred all together because of genetic defects?

What is a genetic defect? I think a reasonable answer would be for a dog any mutation that stopped it functioning like a dog. Let's consider some examples ignoring any human sentiments.The greyhound. It is a super athlete. It is bred to run. Any greyhound that can't run for any reason is put down. Only winning greyhounds get to sire pups.The New Zealand heading dog, a variety of working sheepdog. A hardy, very intelligent, tireless wolf in panda clothing. Useless sheepdogs are shot (no more cruel than a vet's injection and a lot cheaper). Farmers select the best animals to breed from based not on looks but working ability.The pug. A horrible little genetic monstrosity. It is bred not to be a dog but to be a human baby substitute or a handbag accessory. It cannot breathe properly, it cannot bite properly, it cannot give birth naturally, it is prone to cancer, it can have urinary tract defects. People who breed or keep pugs are not thinking of the dog, merely pampering to their own selfish desires.French bulldog, pekingese - see pug.British bulldog, boxer, chow and any other short faced dog. How cruel to breed a wolf that can't breathe properly.Chihuahua, Yorkshire terrier, miniature dachshund, corgi, basset hound etc. We wouldn't want our human children to be dwarfs or midgets however much we might love them once they are born. With dogs we can choose not to produce dwarfs and midgets. Dogs are domestic wolves meant to be proud running creatures.Show German shepherds, show Irish setters, show or fancy anything. Two enormous genetic mistakes here - the first is constant inbreeding from a narrow gene pool; the other is breeding for appearance and conformation to breed standard only instead of for health and efficiency. You breed for sloping haunches in German shepherds and you breed for hip dysplasia. You breed for deep red colour in Irish setters and you breed for idiocy.Weimaraners, pointers, dalmatians, fox hounds, retrievers, Huskies, ridgebacks, standard poodles, lots of breeds with good basic wolf shape, but avoid the inbreeding and show standards.Mongrels, in particular the mongrels of large breeds, your pig dogs and your lurchers, huntaways, dingoes and coydogs - these are the genetically most healthy. The nearest your dog is to a dingo the best; the nearest it is to a pug the worst.

Are mini horses just midgets?

The registrations of miniature horses is height based; 34 inches at the base mane hair for AMHA (American Miniature Horse Association) and 38 inches for AMHR (American Miniature Horse Registry), and I think both registries may be closed now (I could be wrong about that), which would mean foals would need to be the product of registered parents. The foals only get provisional breed registry—they have to be measured and be within limits upon maturity to be permanently registered. I am not a breeder or official in either of these organizations, but this is my understanding—the goal for both is to produce properly proportioned horses that are miniatures. As the understanding of genetics for horses has improved, there are tests that can be done to determine if certain genes for dwarfism are present in the bloodstock; this testing was not possible previously. Note that the dwarfism genes can be present in other “full-sized” horse breeds as well.That said, there are risks to trying to push the envelope to the extremes on any organism and horses are no exception. There are issues in dental and birthing when the tissues/bones are pushed beyond what nature intended and designed via evolution to work effectively.Horse body shapes are not quite as amenable to being as different as dog body shapes have become due to human breeding efforts, not always to the benefit to the animal itself.Miniature horses are still horses, and act like them, but emphasis has been placed on temperament in breeding, which has made them excellent for use by children and youth, as well as seniors, or others that are less mobile. They have also been used as “guide horses” for the visually impaired.

Is it true midgets use dogs as horses?

Yes. Midgets use several different dogs as horses, such as great danes, saint bernards and other large dogs. Midget dog racing is a common sport in the United Nations of Africa. Thousands of people will congregate to bet and cheer on their favorite midget. This sport has not made it's way to other continents in large amounts yet, but some midgets will recreationally race on dogs with their friends on their own time, but no large midget dog racing courses have been established outside of Africa.

Is it possible to get dwarf/midget dogs?

She is not the runt, we had a choice of her and the runt and we chose her coz she was running around and more active than the runt and thats what we wanted.

shes been to the vet and got her shorts and is desexed and i don't think the vet has really mentioned anything that could be rong with her, she runs and plays all the time and we feed her our own made dinners of roo mince and lentils, chick peas, soup beans and fish oil so there healthy.

Is it possible for a dog to be a 'midget'?

ADD: There is absolutely such a thing as dwarfism in dogs, just to be clear. But they have obvious differences as well as health problems.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...
There's such a thing as a true runt.... a dog that is basically a true miniature, usually with health problems and possibly with dwarf like features. Many true runts don't survive.
More commonly, there are just smaller puppies.
My dogs typically have large litters and from time to time there has been a pup that's as much as 40% smaller than the others at birth. They may have been conceived several days later than the others, and therefore were physically 'premature' at birth. They may require a little help to keep up with the other pups for the first several weeks, but are basically just as happy and healthy.
In my case, all those pups have all grown up to be normal sized dogs, some just as large as their brothers and sisters. This is most likely the case with your lil' girl. But if you're concerned, ask your vet if he considers her a true runt/dwarf.
Why do people demonize certain dog breeds, such as the pitt bull?
Its fashionable. When I was a kid Alsatians were killers, just waiting to tear you to pieces. Although statistically the much more common Labrador caused more injuries. Later it was Rotties, Giant killer dogs which would tear you to shreds as soon as look at you. Now its Pitbulls that sell newspapers. All big scarey looking dogs are demonized when they become popular.I wouldn't want a Pitbulls to bite me but its a fact that Chihuahuas are often nasty and Shitzu are bloody vicious. I am currently owned by a Chihuahua/ Shitzu cross. As you can imagine my life is in daily danger! Seriously I've had dozens of dogs all through my 58 y old life - Great Dane to this midget and midgets bite and big dogs generally don't. And Pitbulls get a bad press because of how they look and not how they actually are.
What's the name of the smallest pitbull? It looks like a midget...?
bull terrier????????
Are there such things as midget cats?
YUPPERS
Munchkin cats. well there legs are 2.5 inches long but body of a full grown cat. SOOOO CUTE
IM on a list for a litter of kitten in jan. $100 deposite$500 for the kitten, but the breeders terms are to have the animal fixed at the given date so you cant breed them your self.
