Is My Ear Piercing Infected

Is my ear piercing infected?

Yes it is infected. I got my ears pierced from Claire's a long time ago, and I used their ear cleaning solution. You should use that everyday and be sure to twist your earrings so that the skin doesn't grow on it (so your ear lobe can heal properly).

Hydrogen Peroxide is used to treat cuts, and it sizzles and turns white and bubbly when there is bacteria present. It just lets you know it's killing it.

I don't know anything about a sea salt soak but just keep cleaning it w/the ear solution (i never had to use peroxide).

Your ears could be sensitive to the earrings you have on. I'm not sure if you're wearing the ones from Claire's or the ones your aunt got you, but if they're fake, then you could be sensitive to fake metal. I suggest you get yourself real earrings like gold or silver. My ears are sensitive to fake metal, even when my holes have closed/healed, so I only wear real silver/gold.

Is my ear piercing infected?

I've had three piercings on my earloab for a while. On my third hole, there is a bump and it's always red and it bleeds and pus comes out!! Is it infected?

What do you do if an ear piercing gets infected?

Keep it as clean as you can and go consult a doctor as soon as possible. Please don't wait for the infected piercing to get better because chances are, it wwontamd will instead cause you a lot (I know of people who have had to undergo surgery for this).

What are the signs of an infected ear piercing?

A little pain is normal—that doesn't sound like an infection to me. Try to leave it alone as much as possible. It's normal for the two sides to heal at different rates, for example, if that's the side you sleep on.Signs of infection are the redness, pus, and bump you mentioned, also heat coming from the area, swollen lymph nodes nearby, swelling in general, and red streaks towards your heart (which is, like, emergency-room levels of bad). When my lobe piercing got infected from sloppy stretching, it swelled up, got hard and slightly red, radiated heat, and oozed stuff (for a healing piercing, some discharge is normal, but mine had been healed for YEARS and shouldn't have been oozing anything). Plus, the lymph node right under my ear was also swollen. I was able to take care of it at home with no problem, through careful and dedicated application of antibiotic ointment like you put on band-aids. Not all infections are emergencies.

Ear piercing infection?

First of all, whatever you do, don't take the earring out, because that will just trap the infection and make it a lot worse. Claire's antiseptic is not a bad thing to use, but it's not the best thing to use either. I see some people have already mentioned sea salt soaks--put a pinch of sea salt into a small cup or shot glass and fill it with warm water (about 1 part sea salt to 5 parts water is fine), and soak a cotton ball in it and hold it against your ear for a couple of minutes. Also, letting warm water run over it in the shower for about a minute is a good way to clean it without irritating the piercing. I know they tell you to rotate the piercing early on, but right now you should just let it be--further aggravation is not what you need. Try to touch it as little as possible and ALWAYS wash your hands (with unscented, antibacterial soap). If it gets worse, use a little neosporin or you can even go to a doctor to get some topical cream. The most important thing to do is not take it out and not touch it--and you should be fine, it should heal in about a week. I have a lot of piercings and I know it's really hard to not touch them, but trust me, it will help a lot.

Also, in regards to other comments, DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, regular alcohol, or regular table salt--these will all just aggravate the piercing! Also, try not to wash it with scented soap.

I think my ear piercing is infected... what can I do?

I pierced my own ear lobes about a week ago, I know it was stupid. I poured boiling water over the needles and earrings before I did it and have been cleaning them 2-3 times per day with warm salt water and the stuff they gave me when I got my first holes done (water and 0.01% benzalkonium chloride). One is healing well, it's not sore and the discharge is whitish. The other is a bit painful if I press on it, but it doesn't hurt to turn it. The discharge is light greenish then darkens as it dries into a crust and it bleeds when I clean it. It's not getting any better or any worse. The salt soaks help a lot, but is there anything else I can do to help it heal? Should I see a doctor? This is the first time I've had problems with piercings, and also the first time I've followed all the aftercare instructions!!

Is my new ear piercing infected or is it normal?

I am not a professional piercer or anything but I have gotten a lot of piercings and you are doing one thing no one should do to a new piercing, and thats touching! Never ever touch a new piercing for at least 4 weeks because your new piercing will get germs and lead to infection and irritation. If its red and swollen, then that could possibly lead to an infection. Clean it regularly with the claire antiseptic you should have recieved when they pierced your ears. Clean it at least 3 times a day. Continue to do sea salt soaks as another answeree mentioned with sea salt (found in any supermarket). The sea salt soaks circulates the blood or something. Never ever scratch your piercing or bother it.

I had an infection for over 2 years on and off and believe me, it could get worse. It basically looked like an oversized pus filled pimple. You need to act now before it gets worse. If your swolleness doesn't go away, by law your piercee is supposed to help you out during the healing process. If it gets worse and doens't still go away, a demertologist or doctor will put on some antibiotics (thats what happened to me) and will hopefully get rid of the swollness.

How can I treat an infected ear piercing bump?

i got rid of all my piercings bumps by first cleaning them religiously with saline until they were no longer pus-y. Make sure its dry, don't slather it in saline because you think that would clean it properly! Then i started to apply wheat germ oil to it religiously - the skin would dry up, (gross but bear with) id pick it off and then apply more oil. i'd say it takes a few weeks for it to go but that's worked for all three of my piercing bumps
