Is My Pc Any Good If Not How Can I Upgrade It

Can I upgrade my pc with my current parts?

Ive had my current pc for a few years, and have been slowly adding onto it. By slowly adding onto it I mean a new power supply and graphics card lol. I'm not really a tech person, but can I upgrade my pc with my parts? Ive had multiple people tell me i need something thats compatible with my motherboard and whatnot.

My current specs:
cm 1730 - ASUS Essentio desktop
gtx 1050 ti
400 watt power supply
16 gb ram

(and my cpu is what bottlenecks me. I have an extremely cheap cpu.)

AMD Athlon II x2 220 2.80 GHz

Any info is extremely appreciated!

Can I upgrade my PSU?

Yes, you can upgrade the psu.

HP's Pavilion desktop (tower models, not slimlines) takes standard ATX power supplies. So that would would fit and work fine. However, a couple of things.

1) You don't need a 600W power supply for a Radeon HD 6770. For that card, 450-500 watts is plenty. A good 500W power supply is enough for most systems running anything up to a Radeon HD 6950 or GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

2) You'll get MUCH better gaming performance for the same price, by spending $30 more for a Radeon HD 6850 and getting a 520-550W power supply.

The Corsair gaming series 600W is $90, the Radeon HD 6770 is about $110 (before rebate). That's about $200 up front. So instead, grab one of these power supplies:

And one of these:

That moves you up two levels in the GPU department, for maybe $10 more.

You could also choose the Corsair GS500, but it's not any higher quality than the Seasonic or XFX power supplies linked above.

Should I upgrade my Old PC or rather buy a good gaming laptop?

It’s better to upgrade your PC, unless you’re on the move, like EVERY DAYMultiple reasons:Gaming Laptops are risky to upgrade or serviceA desktop is easily upgradable/cleanableA desktop simply offers more power than a gaming laptop. The parts are relatively cheaper (especially as you already have a case and a motherboard, your price will further be reduced)MOST IMPORTANTLY, You won’t lose any files you have. No need for copy paste maneuversCheers

Why should I not upgrade my PC to Windows 10 from Windows 8?

Why does your computer get slow after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10?Patience, my friend.Windows 10 constantly updates itself and there is no easy way to turn updates off.You will need to wait till all the updates are installed, for the time being. For best results, get a faster Internet connection - 5 Mbps or more. Those 4G Phone Hotspots are not enough. 4G Datacard should be ok if your connection is fast enough.Coming to PC specifications, any computer that runs Windows 8.1 fast can also run Windows 10 fast!In Settings > Windows Update > Advanced settings, You may reduce the frequency updates by choosing a semi annual channel for updates. You may also defer updates by choosing the no. of days, if that option is available. Also maintain your PC by running Malwarebytes to check for malware and Ccleaner to clear junk files and clean the registry. (I am not endorsing these, these software are just my preferences)Use a good antivirus / security suite that is light on resources, like Bitdefender Free / McAfee Antivirus Plus

I'm buying PS4 instead of upgrading my PC, is it a good decision?

Well -  I was hard core gamer during my engineering days so I want to start old habits again. To me the answer is obvious. PC. To further strengthen my point: 1. It's your PC. Unlike a gaming console, you don't have to compete for to use the TV, this applies whether you are married or not. 2. Upgrade. In 5 years, your PS games graphics will be dumbeddown  to fit the hardware. Add to upgrading a PC, is not that expensive (def cheaper than buying a new PS which may only come out in another 5-10 years). You upgrade will mainly go to three parts- processor, ram and graphics. 3. If you were a PC gamer previously, you will prefer mouse and keyboard over gamepad. 4. Affordability of games. The biggest problem PS games poses is the buying games. Sure you have options of swapping and renting, but there are make do solutions. PC, on the other hand, has steam which offer affordle games (you're earning so avoid torrented games; add to that plenty of awesome indie games on steam like Trine, life is strange, etc). 5. Mulitasking - a gamer PC is a beast. If the need arises, you can photoshop, do video editing and all kinds of intensive tasks with ease.Affordability, affordability and availability of games  is in the PC's favour.

Is my PC good enough for gaming?

It depends on what games you want to play. If you want to play games like battlefield 3 or black ops 2 you will have some problem because the processor of this PC is really low(1.81 GHz). Probably you should upgrade it to be at leas 2.2 GHz and than you will be able to play some games. I think that the other characteristics of the PC are good. :)

Computers:-How can I upgrade my pc so that it does not lag when I use video editing and engineering designing software such as AUTOCAD etc?

On an 1st generation i3 PC, I think a Ram upgrade would not help you much. So, I would suggest you to start saving, and upgrade the processor. For the time being, if you really want to upgrade, you may get an 8 GB RAM stick, as any graphics card in that budget is not going to make much difference. you may also get two 4 GB RAM sticks, be sure, to buy the exact same model. preferably, buy sticks that come bundled as Dual channel. A 4 GB stick should cost just a little above the 2 GB stick. So, that option is highly discouraged. I know, pairing up RAM sticks gives more better performance, but a stand alone 4 GB or 8 GB stick would be better in your case.Overall, I'd still stand with 'no upgrade now, and upgrade the whole setup later' option.

Can i upgrade my computer at all? (gateway sx2801-07e)?

Well, it's a slimline/small form factor computer, which greatly restricts your upgrade options.

The big problems are:

1) It can only accept low-profile graphics cards, standard height cards won't fit
2) The power supply is only 220 watts, which isn't enough to support gaming cards

You could install a low-profile Radeon HD 6450 or GeForce GT 520. Those are low power consumption cards which work fine on Gateway's factory 220W power supply. They're fine for CSS, Half-Life, Garrys mod etc, but not fast enough for tougher games like Skyrim and Arma 2.

Performance:

To play Skyrim on medium settings you'd want at least a GeForce GT 430, while a Radeon HD 6570 or 6670 would be even better (the 6670 can manage high settings at 1600x900 or lower resolution). However, cards like those would require upgrading your computer's power supply to a 300W or higher unit, and slimline PSUs are proprietary. I checked both Ebay and atxpowersupplies, and this is all I found:

Unfortunately it seems that nothing exists for your particular computer chassis which is strong enough to support such cards. So yes, your best move would be transplanting everything from the slimline case into a standard tower case. Then you could install any full-sized graphics card you wanted, along with any standard ATX power supply needed to support it.

For example, move everything into this:

Upgrade to this PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

Then you could support cards like the Radeon HD 6770, which can play Skyrim on high:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150540

Or even the 6850/6870, which can play on ultra:

It's just a question of what your budget allows. Skyrim performance below:
