Is Obamacare Alienating The Youth And Union Voting Blocks That Got Obama Elected

Will the Republican party continue to lose support with future generations, considering the U.S. is getting more and more liberal with each generation?

Everyone writing obituaries of Republican doom have a very poor understanding of the American political and demographic outlook. A few things:First, the significance of the Hispanic vote is vastly overstated. So great in fact, the GOP will be better off politically if they continue to fight amnesty tooth and nail. While Hispanics are an increasing demographic, their distribution throughout the country is not. Hispanics are still concentrated in two states: Texas and California. As we all know these states are not in play for presidential elections. If we compare the Hispanic vote to the black vote, the black vote has less numbers but significantly more weight. This is because blacks have multiple high concentration areas throughout swing states that are vital to win. The black vote can sway elections in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Ohio; all hotly contested states. Hispanics being concentrated in two non swing states do not have as much power in deciding national elections. The only Hispanic block that will be important to battle for is the Cubans in Florida. As far as the country becoming more liberal with time, also not the case. The pro life, pro gun, social Conservatives have had tremendous success in state legislatures. There are less abortion clinics now than there were 20 years ago. Gun laws have loosened across the country. Because these issues have been relegated to the states, they will no longer work on the national level to divide voters. People will vote on their social values by where they live. Overall, the GOP is currently suffering under poor leadership, not permanent minority status. The party can and will win more elections. They must simply demonstrate principle and differentiate from Democrats.

Why are some liberals so condescending toward Trump supporters? Do they really feel they are superior?

They can’t believe anyone voted for someone who has spouted so much hate speech, who has so few coherent ideas, and whose tendencies seem too patently autocratic. It’s not about liberals feeling “superior”: it’s about us being morally aghast that you guys got behind a demi-man who called Mexicans “rapists” in his campaign announcement, has degraded women, attacked anyone who dares criticize him, waged a systematic war on the very free press whose constant attention to him probably factored in his victory, attacked a Gold Star family and compared his “sacrifices” as real-estate billionaire to those of the young and dead Muslim-American soldier Humayun Khan, who besmirched John McCain’s status as a war hero — when was Trump ever in Vietnam?, who wants to create a registry for Muslims (much as Hitler did for Jews — bad precedent), who has the zealous support of the KKK, who cozied up to Putin (whose government interfered in the election — in the country whose security the president is supposed to ensure), who has been nominating plutocrats and alt-right loons to very lofty and powerful positions, who promises to deport millions and break up families, to “build a Wall and make Mexico pay for it” (good luck), who will lead us into trade wars and likely encourage fiscal policy that will lead to another huge financial meltdown, calls climate change a hoax propagated by China (and therefore embraces destructive industries and deregulation, and has no agenda to help mitigate the first anthropogenic extinction in our planet’s history), etc., etc., etc.We are disappointed to think we live in a country in which our fellow citizens think that these things are presidential, that they befit the leader of the free world. We are horrified to think that America elected its own image, and that image is this. The man’s affronts to common decency and infantile vulnerability to any provocation should have disqualified him in the minds of all decent and sane people. So what the fuck happened? I am no great fan of Hillary’s. I don’t think Washington is functioning properly. But electing this wholly selfish, power-hungry golem to our highest office was not a wise alternative. It’s not so much about superiority. The feeling is “This is America in the twenty-first century! How could you?”

Are Democrats out of power because they drifted too far left or because they drifted too far right?

They moved too far to the right, definitely. Or at the very least, they were too centrist and not left wing enough.Obamacare, for example. Obama had the opportunity to implement the first American single-payer system or even a public option. He didn’t pursue it and instead passed a conservative and unpopular healthcare system. Today, Obamacare is a weak point for the Democratic Party. Had Obama passed a single-payer health care system, it would be as popular as Social Security and Medicare, and would be an advantage for them to win more races.Furthermore, American left policies are very popular. (All of these figures are outdated and most of these policies have become even more popular)52% of Americans support a single-payer system (universal healthcare). 54% of Republicans and 69% of Democrats support it, to be exact.63% of Americans support free college. 47% Republicans support it while 45% oppose it (50% of Tea Party supporters support it, 49% oppose it), and 81% of Democrats support free college.74% of Americans support raising the minimum wage (54% of Republicans support a raise) although the exact increase is disputed.46% of Americans support universal basic income. 35% oppose it.61% of Americans want to decriminalize marijuana.52% of Americans want to stop invading other countries.Anyone claiming that the Democratic party has moved too far to the left has a narrow, America-centric view of which incapacitates them from realizing that the Democratic party will start to regain power by purging the right-wingers within their ranks and replacing them with left wingers. The most popular politician in the country is, you guessed it, left-wing. The biggest recent upsets have come from left-wingers challenging centrists.Additionally, seeing that minorities tend to vote for left-wingers (because left-wingers protect minorities) and that minorities are growing, it would be wise for the Democratic party to move further left.
