For hundreds of thousands of years, humans did not brush their teeth. What happens if I stop altogether?

I’m obsessed with my teeth. I got braces when I was 7, along with all kinds of apparatuses and headgear, and I saw the orthodontist every month for eight years. As a grown ass adult, I still wear retainers. Because of all the pain and effort and money that went into my teeth, I take care of them compulsively.Several dentists have told me that if everyone had teeth like mine, then they’d be out of business. That’s right. My teeth are so awesome I put dentists out of business. I only get them cleaned once a year, and even still the hygienists are always all “wow, there’s nothing for me to do here…” Dentists literally exclaim at how “beautiful” my teeth are.I don’t mind bragging about my teeth. My parents paid a lot of money to make them awesome, and I have put in an ungodly amount of effort into keeping them awesome. My whole point here is that I know about teeth and how much keeping them clean can pay off. So, when I first met my now-husband, I was horrified at the state of his mouth.I wish I had a picture. His gums weren’t pink — they were kind of purple and grey, and they bled. Seeing as I put my mouth near those gums, I had to confront him about it. I discovered that he hadn’t brushed or flossed or gone to the dentist in five years.I was horrified. By this time I was deeply in love, but I must admit that this made me second guess things, haha.So I packed him off to a dentist. First he had to have a really expensive root canal done by a specialist (apparently his teeth have three roots instead of just two, so he can’t get anything done by a regular dentist). And then they told us that he had periodontitis, which means that he had big pockets in his gums that were filled with calcified “bacteria fortresses” (those are the the dentists actual words). The good news was they thought he was young enough that he could be saved. He had to undergo several “deep cleaning” sessions. These were painful, since the doc had to get right up under the gums to attack the bacteria fortresses. They gave him valium and the gas just to get through the cleanings.Turned out that it was all worth it! Three years later, his gums are pink and healthy, and he doesn’t have any more pockets. Thanks to me, he got fixed up just in time to make a full recovery. If his anti-toothbrush lifestyle had gone on much longer, he would have ended up with irreversible gum damage and possibly even bone loss. So, brush your teeth. Don’t be like my (wonderful) husband.

What is the feeling just after taking the JEE Advanced and you know your dreams are going to come true?

I gave JEE Advanced 2016.I had scored 243 in JEE Mains 2016 and had done decently well in boards. So NIT Surathkal (my home state NIT) was assured. I had BITSAT on 19th May and had scored 364. So BITS Pilani was also assured. My coaching institute used to conduct mock tests for JEE Advanced and I my performance was pretty poor in all the tests. So ya I had given up hope for Advanced. I just thought I had prepared for this exam for 2 years and I should do my best and cross the cutoff at least. Exam center:Paper 1 had ended. I felt it was okay and not as tough as the last year's paper. I spoke to a friend who was in my center. Even he felt it was okay. Had lunch at a nearby restaurant quickly and went back to the center. Paper 2 was kind of equally difficult as paper 1. Tried to do my best. I did not guess much as I had seen that a single negative mark could bring down rank by hundreds. Finally submitted my paper and went out. It was the last of the string of entrance exams I had given. Felt relieved and alive. Then immediately headed to Mysore for my cousin's wedding which was scheduled for the next day. There I checked with Resonance answer keys. Score came to be around 45% - a rank of around 7500 according to previous years' trends. After a few days official answer keys came out and I didn't care to check as I thought I won't get a good seat in IITs. Finally on the day of results, I was pleasantly surprised. My result:Score- 166/372AIR 1766.Now doing option entry for IITs!I realized that if we stay cool without tension and expectations, we can perform well.

What is the reason behind the depreciation of the Indian rupee against US dollars?

Hi,The depreciation of the rupee has been a major worry as the rupee depreciated by almost 10% and breached the psychological mark of 70.A few reasons are:Interest Rates in the US are rising which would encourage American investors to invest in US itself rather than invest in India. As we know the major source of foreign currency is foreign investment either direct route or portfolio/institutions route.India’s Current Account Deficit is rising consistently. It can be argued that India is importing more than exporting but this is not true. A large share of import is crude oil whose price has increased significantly. This is emptying our foreign reserves at an alarming rate.Another major factor which is missing is that the impact of economic reforms such as Demonetisation (which reduced liquidity) and to counter that, income tax was reduced and capital infused into banks(increasing liquidity). GST also decelerated the growth rate, it is lesser than what is informed by the government as base year was deliberately changed.Economic changes made always have side effects and chain reactions. This might be one of them.A moderate rate decrease of rupee would help in increasing our exports as they become cheap. A slower rate would also give some time for us to make proper management of rising prices at both the micro and macro level. It is also necessary to note that RBI has started accumulating Gold, but why?Gold seems to be more stable than the dollar at this point in time. The dollar also seems to become strong day by day. We also have turkish lira depreciating rapidly, Hence gold is always a better option. My personal opinion is that currencies are controlled by their respective central banks and government. At any point in time, say America can reduce the liquidity of dollar thereby appreciating it or print more to depreciate it which would further impact the whole world as the world runs on the dollar.Gold cannot be minted or destroyed so it’s always a better option.Hope the answer helps.Manish
