How can one get a chance to give a TED or TEDx talk?

The first thing to understand is that there are several different types of TED events, including the annual main TED conference in Vancouver, BC with its simulcast TEDActive in Whistler, BC, and TEDGlobal that is usually held in Europe. But there are a host of other events that are licensed by TED under the TEDx: Independently organized TED events banner, which happen all the time, all over the world. As part of the license from TED, the organizers of these events are required (a) to use the same 18 minute format as TED, (b) film all the talks, and (c) upload them to the TEDxTalks website, which now has over 17,000 talks online. Here, for example, is a talk that I gave at TEDxWallStreet earlier this year:As Amy Robinson noted, speaking at a TEDx event is a good way to both hone your presentation skills, and get noticed by the TED curators for consideration as a potential speaker at the main TED conference. And while only a much smaller, curated set of videos are included on the full TEDTalks site, many of the ones there, in addition to being taken from TED main stage presentations, are actually selected from the wide variety of TEDxTalks. So, my suggestion would be for you to first browse through the calendar of upcoming TEDx events, which lists more than 1500 potential opportunities. Find ones that are either close to you, or that deal with topics on which you would be an appropriate contributor, and then get in touch with the organizers of that event, offering yourself as a speaker. You should also read the FAQ about Speaking at TED, and use the nomination form there to submit yourself for consideration for Long Beach (note, however, that they receive many, many world-class nominations, and only have room for a very. very few main stage speakers, so I wouldn't get your hopes too set on that approach.)Good luck with sharing your wisdom!PS: In addition to TED and its offspring, there are many thousands of other opportunities for sharing your ideas with large numbers of people, and I would encourage you to also look at events put on by the folks involved with groups such as Ignite, BarCamp and other types of Unconferences. These can be great stepping stones to developing a reputation as the type speaker people want to invite to TEDx!

How can I tell if my girlfriend is cheating on me?

All of a sudden she is constantly surrounded by boys all the time ( this the sign she is hunting or she likes attention ).She gets boys over to her place without telling you, or justifying that the other guy is just a friend when you confront her. ( Clear sign she doesn’t respect you, she doesn’t know boundaries and she is a “tharki” ).Starts meeting random guys over the internet and chats with them. When you say that you do not trust other guy’s intention, she will ignore you and try to convince you otherwise. She becomes blind to all the small things you do for her.All things that she loved doing with you, becomes mundane according to her.Starts comparing your relationship with others ( This should be rule number 1 for successful relationship: stop comparing folks! Your relationship is beautiful in it’s own right and in no way others words should influence you ).Thinks she is too beautiful and that she will have enough folks lined up for her ( True, she might be very beautiful in literal sense. But beauty lies within and in your thinking. Guys will only like her for her looks and what she has to offer physically. She needs to understand it ).Sounds duplicitous in the way she talks ( She may say she values something, hates meaningless flings and casual sex, but her actions and rants during fights say some other story ).If she had a past relationship and you know of it, you will see how she has changed till now with you. This will surely give you an idea of how fast she can be moulded and get influenced. She hangs on to ( and remembers only ) the negatives that you say about your relationship ( Trust me, if you break up or she cheats, she will quote you telling all this about relationship and will turn the blame on you ). Everyone has negatives in their relationship and pointing it out is good to overcome the flaws consciously, but beware! your partner will use it against you every time.P.S: Jotted down these things from my personal experience… Got cheated on by a wh*re of person. The signs were all there but I was naive and failed to address it. If it helps you fix your relationship early or save yourself an sh*t load of pain and humiliation, well and good. If not, I really wish she doesn’t cheat on you. According to me, cheating is the worst feeling of pain you will suffer in a relationship.

What are the advantages of hiring someone who has been in the U.S. military?

It's hard to add much more to this subject. But I will anyway ;)One trait that I know is expected from military members that seems to be completely unexpected from corporate america is this:In the military "I've never done that before" (or heck even "I've never heard of that before")  is NO EXCUSE for failure. This is important to understand if you've got veterans working for you. On the positive side, they are willing and eager to take on any task. They will succeed. And the more impossible everyone thinks it is, the more gleefully they will pursue it. On the negative side, understand when you ask a vet "can you do this?" The answer is yes. The answer is "YES. I can do it -- I don't know how, but I will by the time I am done." You may mean to ask "have you done this before?" or "are you experienced with this?" or "are you qualified to do this?" But when you ask "can you..." remember you are asking someone who believes to his soul that "too hard" is a despicable excuse. I still remember my commander handing me a 250 page technical manual on a SINCGARS radio and telling me to give a class to the company tomorrow. I had never even seen a SINCGARS radio until that day. And weirder, I didn't even think that was an unreasonable request. I read the manual that afternoon, played with the radio a little bit and gave a 2 hour class on it the next day, and had all 112 people successfully using the radio that afternoon. Oh and we were out in the wilderness - no power point, no visual aids. It's a little bit like driving a very high-powered car, you've got to be careful about how casual you are with the gas pedal.

When you permanently delete your Facebook account, what happens to your information?

Your data lives in multiple systems within Facebook. Aside from the primary Facebook application, there are systems which are used to analyze and store historical data, such as Hadoop. I can speak a bit to how data is used for measuring Facebook's usage and what happens to old data.At a high level, if you delete your account, it is "logically" deleted starting at the time you've deleted it. Accounts that are deleted are generally not included when calculating metrics going forward. This basically means that if someone asks "How many users do we have", a person who deleted their account wouldn't be included in calculating that.Additionally, there are processes that "scramble" identifiable data once it becomes stale (about 90 days). Things like names and even user id's can no longer be referenced in any decipherable way.To answer the first part of your question, "Could you pay Facebook to properly delete all your information?", assuming "properly" means completely wipe away any trace that you ever existed on Facebook, the answer is no. For two main reasons:Hive (a tool within the Hadoop platform which Facebook uses for analyzing and storing data) literally doesn't allow you to delete individual records from tables. It is simply a limitation of the technology. The only way to delete your data would be to delete everyone's data.Even if you could delete individual records, older data that would allow a person to identify your records is scrambled. No one would be able to tell one person's information apart from any other. For the second part of your question, "how much would it cost?", based on what I explained above you would likely need to own Facebook to make a decision that would impact every single user. At today's closing price, Facebook has a $65 billion market cap. It’s not uncommon to pay on the low end of a 30% premium for companies with growing revenue. So the answer to your question is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $85 billion to "properly" delete your data.

Has anyone else been to Ft. Hunter Liggett?

It was once the backyard for Ft. Ord. You will likely get a break from the heat it has been cool this year. It can get over 120 later in the summer. The weather on the coast changes from hot to cold. As it heats up inland the fog gets sucked in. it goes, it heats up, it starts over. The temp can swing 40 degrees. There is nothing close in the way of civilization. King City and Paso Robles barely pass as Cities. Try getting over to Monterey/Carmel if you can on the weekend. Bubba Gumps on Cannery Row has the best ocean view with waves crashing up to the windows when the wind is up.
If they warn you about wild pigs, PAY attention, they exist as do small scorpions, timber rattlesnakes and violin spiders.

Have no idea what the facilities are like. Years ago at Camp Roberts, just south, they were still using the old WWII wood barracks. They were clean and the plumbing worked, I'm sure it will be an adventure.

There is an old Spanish Mission on post too.
