Is There A Good Pub Quiz In Central London Not Run By

Is there a current list of London pubs with late licences?

The Licensing Register for Westminster Council (which includes Soho) can be found here http://www.westminster.gov.uk/se...The one for the City of London is here: http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/C...These sites will give you the details of the legal documents each of the venues have submitted although not that useable (take a look).A much better option is just using the bar/pub review sites such as Timeout, beerintheevening, viewlondon, allinlondon etc.My personal recommendation would be to head for Dean Street, a number of great options: Zenna (amazing cocktails below the Red Fort Indian), Dean Street Townhouse, The Player (little further away)

Are there any completely independent pubs (not a chain and not brewery-owned) in London?

Q: Are there any completely independent pubs (not a chain and not brewery-owned) in London?Yes. The generic name for this is a “Free House” which means the pub isn’t tied to a particular brewery. Oddly the JD Wetherspoon chain are technically Free Houses…You may enjoy: Public vs Free Houses which names a few really good ones.

I'm moving to London from the States. What should I know? How do the neighborhoods in London compare to those in Boston and New York? What are the best shipping and transport options? What's the best way to find a great apartment remotely?

I moved to London from NYC nearly 10 years ago.  Here are some things that surprised me:It took more than one day to open a bank account - and I had to have a ridiculous amount of ID to do so.   This is a bit better now, but check out Metro Bank if you want an easy life.  Metro Bank OnlineBritish people don't keep their eggs in the refrigerator. When you move to the UK you get a whole new credit rating.Shops close really early on Sundays.  Need milk after 7PM - forget it.There is a difference between "Night busses" and regular busses.  Aside from the amount of druken passengers at night, I'm not sure what the difference is.British people judge you by your accent - it's not so bad having an American accent. There are few good cocktail bars in London. The amount you pay to rent a place will be 2-3x more than you would pay on a mortgage for the same place.Dental health isn't prioritized as much as it is in the USA.  If you have a near perfect set of teeth, they will be referred to as "American teeth"If you need to transmit large sums of money a bank transfer from your US bank account to your UK bank account may be the easiest but not cheapest way.Citibank offer a US Currency Bank Account in the UK, which may help if you have to regularly transfer money: US Dollar Current AccountIf you have more than the equivalent of $10K in your bank account (which isn't hard given the strength of the pound) you'll have to notify the IRS:Still Have A Foreign Bank Account? - ForbesBread, butter, milk, broadband and cell phone service cost less in London than New York City.  Enjoy it.  It is about the only things that are cheaper. You get a ridiculous amount of vacation time over here. It's viewed as declassé to read a "red top" newspaper - Red-tops on the rise, survey showsYou can hold a perfectly adequate  conversation with a stranger (but not on the tube) as long as you stick with these topics: The weather, the lateness of he trains, the (soccer) game.I have not yet met a Briton who has something positive to say about George W Bush.British people take queuing (waiting in line) seriously. On the dating scene, your American accent will give you bonus points. There isn't much gun crime here, but the amount of petty theft and knife crime is unbelievable.Health care is 'free.'If you live in Central London, it isn't practical or cheap to own a car.If you work in an office, Thursday is the night that you go out.You can't get Crest toothpaste.  So bring some over and give it to me!

How many continents are governed by more than 1 country?

5, I suppose. There are North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

I want to say the middle east, but that would be part of Asia.
Central America are part of a Human Characteristic call Latin, it might be a separate of North America, but I have to say it isn't( Belize, Honduras, El Salvidor, Pueto Rico, or Nicaragua). The continent, Australia along with New Zealand are called "Oceania" which I don't know if it's a continent or not.

If middle east, Central America, Oceania are continent or not your answer would be 6, 7, or 8.

Is there any point going to pubs other than Wetherspoon's in the UK?

Is there any point going to pubs other than Wetherspoon's in the UK?I really like wetherspoons as a chain. I may take my girlfriend to one for lunch today. The food is reasonable (if you buy the right things), and the beer is cheap. It's often worth going rather than somewhere else. But….My local does much better food. Pricier, but much better quality. Freshly cooked by an actual chef etc. Not so great on the beers though, but they are ok (not many bitters though!).Wetherspoons is often crowded. Another pub I know is empty, quiet & incredibly charming. You can play board games or cards (I've seen others play dominos). The snug is even better. They have live music, I even saw a man playing the spoons, while another played something I've never seen. Beer is…ok, definitely drinkable. Not as much variety as Wetherspoons (and they don’t do food). Love the atmosphere though!McMullen pubs are a decent chain in my experience. Not as cheap as wetherspoons, but nice & often a better atmosphere. Decent beers from their brewer too.A pub called the something horseshoes, gave the best food I've had from a chain (not a chain I knew). Pricy, but great. Beer was a bit meh. Would eat there, not drink there. The ship (somewhere in Cornwall) gave me near Michelin quality food (I've eaten in a number of Michelin starred restaurants), and very good beer (Cornish ale - well kept etc). I'd not hesitate to go back. It was an old pub too, and had apparently been frequented by Sir Walter Rayleigh, Drake and the other seamen of the time.A pub called the crown, gave me the largest portion of decent food you've ever seen. I liked their bitter too (Batemanns - it was in lincs). Value for money was good. The atmosphere was very nice, and had more charm than any Wetherspoons I’ve been in.A wetherspoons (in lincs) treated my favourite Deuchars IPA so badly I couldn't drink it, and I nearly took it back (there was a long queue..and I'm British, so this is almost inpossible).I love wetherspoons, they are great when your broke friends want to go to the pub, but it isn't always the best choice.

How can I meet more British people in London?

Try somewhere more unusual then the usual tourist traps. Often we are near but hiding from overpriced and overcrowded places that seem to be mecca’'s for the out of town croud. One thing you could try is not going to well known chains and restaurants that your familiar with. Just off the main streets are lovely little family run and independent shops that cater for repeat local residents. Instead of starbucks try the coffee of an independent. You'll also ensure that at least 50p of every £1 spent will go back into the local economy rather then tax heavens! Also there are many lovely little villages orbiting the capital's central areas. People work in central but often go out where they live. And since living costs are high in central areas you might meet more of us in places outside zone 1/2.Try walking on Hampstead heath, shopping on Muswell Hill high street, Walthamstow Village has loads of great pubs, Forest Hill is lovely and independent and home to many artists. Crystal Palace has loads of vintage shops, restaurants and also some great second hand/antique furniture shops! Loads of stuff in and around hackney, but it is getting a little crowded with out of towners seeking the latest east London fad, stag or hen party's have become common place on Friday or Saturday night!Clapham has some hidden gems a little way from public transport hubs. But whatever you do don't tell too many people because it inevitably can be the making of a place and then eventually it kills it off.As someone born and raised in Camden I now skirt around the capital zone 1 and minimize my time in Oxford Street and anywhere near the usual sightseeing areas. I now live south east because of the cost of where I was born skyrocketed with its cool factors in the 90′s. The independent places have been driven away more or less from Camden. They do exist still but might be down a street you might not turn usually. When going from A to B. Try a S, F or maybe even a Z that isn't on the tourist map!Good luck exploring the wild west and don't get too lost. Maybe I'll see you at my local pub quiz on tuesday.

Question about Ancient Mesopotamia...?

Well, it seems the answers come logically if we ask this question:
For society to run smoothly, what are some basic requirements?

Rules might come under the following categories:
- laws which preserve and guarangtee basic civil and human rights (the points of the FIRST AMENDMENT): freedom of speech, press, assembly, religion, and petition

- laws establishing structures giving legal rights and ownership
- laws dictating collection of revenue or taxes for the state
- laws regarding traveling and travelers in the land
- laws regulating trade and commerce or affecting the price of goods
- laws regarding military service
- laws regarding criminal actions, and dictating process of criminal proceedings, as well as limiting and defining punishments given to people
-laws governing inheritance
-laws against hazards to the public safety or against agents that might lead to disease outbreaks

Hope these are a few ideas to get you started.
