Is There A Lot Of Racsim In Oahu Towards An Australian

Are Australians racist towards Asians?

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. We have a very few ignorant anti-Asian people here, but they're very much a minority and are frowned upon by everyone else. I know a lot of Asians and people of Asian descent and have never heard of any of them experiencing racism - believe me, my Asian mates would talk about it if they had.

Australians are very accepting, tolerant and non-racist but like people everywhere, we have a problem with people who approach us with a chip on their shoulder and who have low expectations of us. If you come here with an open mind and a friendly smile, you'll be accepted and welcomed without question.

EDIT:
I wasn't going to comment on anything said by other answerers, but the comments of aquadventure can't be allowed to pass unchallenged.

The Cronulla riot (note the singular) was the first (and only) such trouble we have EVER had in Australia, and were between some bogan Australians from Cronulla and surrounding coastal suburbs and Lebanese and other Middle Eastern youths from the western suburbs of Sydney.

Trouble makers exist in every society and in that case, there were apparent provocations by one 'side' and appalling over-reaction by the other 'side'. The incidents were never a case of anti-Asian racism (since when have Lebanese etc been Asian?) and anyone who says otherwise is very badly mis-informed or is deliberately trying to mislead.

Importantly in the context of the answerer's assertions, there have been NO (not a single one) alterations in immigration or citizenship policy, rules, quotas or anything else since the riot. I can't imagine why anyone would choose knowingly to make such an incorrect statement.

Living in Australia as an Asian?

People mistake our humour as racism. 80% of the rude things Australians say, they don't mean. It's just our way of joking around.

It may seem terrible to non-Australians, and I can understand that, but you need to know they aren't being serious with you. My best friend, Leah, is Asian, and I treat her as I would to any other friend (nicely). My other best friend is South-African.

I, personally, along with many other Aussie folks, would never kid around when it comes to people's race because I know how touchy they can be about it.

You see the world going, "Oh, yeah. Australia's all desert, never rains. They ride kangaroos to school and feed them Vegemite."
When you really think about it, stereotypes are a form of discrimination. Eg. All blondes are dumb. All lesbians have made a sex tape. All Christians hate gay people. All Australians are racist, never serious, crude and usually drunk.
But the majority of Australians thrive off their stereotypes, and enjoy laying it on thick with the accents and slang, and confirm all the nonsense about Kangaroos jumping freely down the road and Koalas being cuddly. [Damn! Koalas are feisty little terrors! Can do you some surgery-worth damage, too!] They do that because it's what they find amusing. It's just what they think is funny.

Asians are smart, hard-working, intelligent people, and I'm glad we are able to share our country with them. Majority of Aussies agree with me.

Who ever wrote those articles were clearly insane.. You have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. It's the odd ******** racist that ruins our reputation.
Don't believe everything you hear.

How "racist" are australians?

Hey! I really want to visit Australia this summer, have a good time, but I'm american and I have no idea what the people are like over there. I'm sure teens are teens, but I was wondering just how "racist" people are over there. From where I'm from in the states (some where in cold minnesota) even if you're not black or asian, people only see you as white if you have a more pale complexion. So, if you're a dark spaniard, they don't think your white. I know it's not important, I actually love different cultures, but here even if their respectful to you, they kind of exclude you in some ways, and it kind of gets uncomfortable when I have to talk about ancestry. My fathers side is nordic, (plue eyed, pinky white, and blonde) while my mother is from Tunisia (she sactually berber, not arab, but they're similar). Shes Kardashian tan, and her features are like Angelina Jolie.

So I have eyes like penelope cruz eyes, but the rest of my face is like my norwegian/danish grandma, high cheek bones, a bit plump lips, slightly upturned, stright nose. I have dark brown hair, dark eyes, and light skin, but it's not pinkish, and I tan. Not trying to be a brat, but I am pretty. Enough that a lot of the 'reserved' boys here are always talking and staring at me, though I don't want to date anyone I know at the moment. It's actually kind of a joke between me and my friends, but anyway..<3
So what I really want to know is if they'd see me as a regular white teenage girl, or they'd see me as colored. I know that it's wrong to care about it, I'm certaintly not racist, but I'd rather feel comfortable when I'm visiting places until I figure this out for myself. I never cared before, but after my dad passed away, I feel like my moms just surrounding me with her culture.

Thanks!

Is Australia a racist country towards black people?

Compared to what? There are definitely elements of racism in Australia and there was definitely racism against black people (I'm assuming here you mean Aboriginal people) in Australia in the past and still is to some degree. But again compared to what? In my experience of travelling the world I think racism is everywhere and much worse overseas. To offset racism in Australia, to some degree, is an egalitarian attitude. That we are all equal. Sure there are die-hard racists but on the whole I think we are pretty good by comparison to other places. And remember, Aboriginal people only make up 4% of the population so most Australians probably don't come into contact with them.We also have Sudanese refugees and I have noticed some racism towards them as well but it seems more about them being refugees and crime rather than being black.Australians had an attitude to earlier immigrant groups like the Greeks, Italians, Vietnamese but you don't hear much about that anymore once they integrated, unless there is some crime issue, or now Muslim issue (e.g. people of Lebanese descent or from the middle east in general).Personally, I think Australians are pretty good as far as racism goes but I am sure others on here with different experiences would disagree.
