Is it correct to capitalize mathematics?
If it is the first word of a sentence, yes. If it is referring to a specific math course, you would also capitalize it, but not when referring to math courses in general. Mathematics is a hard subject for me. I am taking Mathematics 101 this year. My mathematics class is in the afternoon.
ATTENTION, MATH word problems. 10 points?
I think you can do this. Let H = hawaii and R = Rhode Island So according to the problem H = R + 5213 and both together H + R = 7637. So now you have a system of equations. H = R + 5213 H + R = 7637 Substitute R + 5213 into the second equation. You get R + 5213 + R = 7637 2R = 7637 - 5213 2R = 2424 R = 1212 So Rhode Island's area is 1212 Hawaii's area would then be 7636 - 1212 = 6425 Same for the second problem Seven falls = S and Twin falls = T So S = 5/2T and S + T = 420 Substituting we get 5/2T + T = 420 3/5T = 420 T = 120 ft So S must be 420 - 120 or 300 ft
