Is There An Easy Way To Edit Portfolios

How do you add "Cash" holdings to the New portfolio? (Used to be $$cash)?

Simple answer appears to be that you can't. My total is still correct, even though the portfolio is not displaying $$cash lines. Perhaps someone should ask the question of where we can go now to get a good portfolio. I'd like to see that answer. I'd move in a heartbeat.

There was a time when $$cash was the single most important feature separating the Yahoo portfolio from Google. Now Google has added the feature and Yahoo has messed it up. Why? I suspect Yahoo has let the good people go -- perhaps to Google? I also hate that I cannot arrange the order of the entries. You should be able to have multiple cash lines and control the order. Admittedly the interface was a bit clunky, but it was at least able to do what is really needed. Also have you notice that the ETFs keep disappearing. Hard to use a portfolio when there are this many problems.

What I find completely inexcusable is these guys just dumped this on us and aren't pulling it back after significant complaints. There WAS a time Yahoo would let you try a new option and collect opinions before just plopping it out there. Hopefully someone at corporate will take notice and lop a few heads.

Is it allowed to make a video-editing portfolio using videos from the internet not shot by me? (e.g. Combining different music videos and adding some effects to show the client my editing skills)

The main problem is not so much about legality as it is about the effectiveness of doing this.People aren’t stupid and will see through this, and you’ll come across as amatuer if you don’t have any actual videos to show them. Nothing screams noob like copyright infringed mashup portfolio of other people’s work (and in all honesty it probably not gonna be a good one of those if you’re at the stage of thinking is a good idea).Anyone who is the remotest bit professional is not gonna be impressed by it, and so it really depends who it is you’re trying to demonstrate your skills to. Your Uncle Joe might be impressed, a business professional probably not so much. It’s not legal in the slightest of course, and so you would have to be really careful about who you’re showing this to and where. It’s much better though to have actual work to show people.

Do you need to build backend for a personal portfolio website or is HTML/CSS/Javascript enough?

I'd recommend a middle way - using tools like Jekyll (Ruby) or DocPad (Nodejs) which you may call backend tools to generate your portfolio/blog/whatever organized in a tool-specific structure into static HTML/CSS/Javascript pages and deploying the output to a server that serves static content. The easiest, ready-to-go solution is to create a new repository on Github named yourname.github.com or yourname.github.io where yourname is your Github's username and filling it with the files that can be compiled by Jekyll, refer to their Quick-start guide for more details. The good news is that Github will use Jekyll on their back-end to compile your files down to static HTML/CSS/JS webpages automatically every time you push changes upstream. So at this point, your website can be reached by visiting http://yourname.github.io and if you have your own domain name which you want to display your website, just create a CNAME file containing your domain name inside your repository and make sure to create an A record in your domain's DNS management panel  according to Github's Tips for configuring an A record with your DNS providerThis is the setup I'm currently using, you can observe my repository at sergeylukin/sergeylukin.github.comI find this method being very flexible, light and the best part of it is that content exists in the repository instead of being stored somewhere in remote database. Having content locally allows me to use my Editor of choice when adding/editing the pages and having all modifications history in place as it is stored in Git (version control system).Github themselves have created a very nice introductory guide on method explained above which you can find here: GitHub Pages

How can I create a photography portfolio for free?

Go to wordpress and start a blog with a photo-friendly theme;Photography WordPress Themes at WordPress.com Advantage of starting a blog rather than a dedicated portfolio site is that you can make it grow with you and get better SEO;You are able to change the theme quickly so you can freshen it up for free every few years. For example, my initial wordpress site was not reactive to phone resolutions, but a quick theme change when mobile became a popular use-case quickly fixed this at zero cost to me You can add different types of content entries (tutorials, photo diaries, client stories) as well as a straight portfolio. These different content types allow you to better drive traffic to the content you want to be seen (your portfolio) by giving free content out as a carrot. You get to advertise your photography passion, skill, and 'you as a person' rather than just your portfolio. Comes with a good contnet management system (CMS) off the bat.Easy to add other content (your youtube videos, flikr and other social media) as embedded content. No web designer required! You can easily change your blog to a 'pro site' by starting a premium account if you ever go pro. This allows you to transition to a more business oriented site (e-commerce and bookings, and deeper customisation) if you ever require it, and you can do this cheaper than a bespoke site, as well as porting your existing content over (even if its just as an archive). And finally, a blog site comes up higher in search results than a straight portfolio because it is more likely to be updated often.
