Definitely DigimonIt’s full of fantasy and fun. It also shows so many good qualities. Like to never give up, follow you dream etc.A kid should still dream and enjoy their childhood. But most important:It shows how important friends are.

SLICE OF LIFE ANIME ON NETFLIX?

I am just now geting into Anime.. Ive realized i like Slice of Life anime, Ive been watching Squid Girl and Sword Art Online

i was wondering if you could give me more animes to watch ON Netflix that are in that genre or some of your personal faves. Must be on Netflix, Thanks

What is the first Slice of Life anime or manga?

I'm no expert on this subject, but I'll try!

First of all, you'll have to specify which type of slice of life you're looking for. Schoolgirl slice of life series like Azumanga Daioh or just slice of life in general?

If you're thinking of the schoolgirl type, I can't really think of anything before Azumanga. Maybe try looking into the history of yonkoma (what the Azumanga anime is based off of) and trace how they came into popularity.

As for slice of life in general, Sazae-san might be the first slice of life anime, or at least the first one that became massively popular. It started in 1969 and is still airing today.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is a really well-known slice of life manga that started its serialization in 1994 and ended in 2006.

But if you're looking for deeper roots of the genre, I think the slice of life genre has always been pretty popular in Japanese literature, but I'm not familiar enough with Japanese lit to give any examples. I know that Anne of the Green Gables is really popular in Japan, though (seriously, just google "Anne of the Green Gables Japan popular") and there's a long franchise of anime adaptations in the 60s to 90s of famous European novels such as Anne of the Green Gables:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Maste...

A lot of the novels they're adapted from are pretty dramatic and not exactly slice of life, but the anime adaptations had a strong slice of life feel to them because they were typically ~50 episodes long and focused a lot more on the daily lives of the characters.

What does the genre 'Slice of Life' mean in anime?

Slice of life meansSlice of daily day to day life a character.

Have you watched any ‘slice of life’ animes?

Many. This genre, along with drama and comedy, is easily one of my favourites. Add the fact that I’ve been going down this rabbit hole for decades now, and… well, at this point, it may be more of a question of “which haven’t I watched”. (*)Also, keep in mind that SoL is not exactly a sharply defined subgrene. Often enough there are shows that will heavily rely on SoL while also featuring more fantastical elements in their core setup, effectively making them hybrids. Such as HaibaneRenmei, and many others. That said, if you are still at the beginning of your anime journey and are specifically looking for Slice-of-Life recommendations, then I would suggest these five:AriaThe best place to relax and recharge whenever life brings you down.Non Non BiyoriQuite possibly the quintessential modern SoL title.Hanasaku IrohaFeaturing the best Slife-of-Life character writing of the past 10 years.Azumanga DaiouThe mother of all modern yonkoma Slice-of-Life shows. Is The Order A RabbitBecause… um… oh heck, just LOOK at them.Obviously there is a ton of titles out there that may be better suited for you depending on your individual tastes, but yea, since you did not specify any preferences, that selection should get you started.*) In case you were really interested in a more complete list Slice of Life titles I have watched: A-Channel, Aiura, Amanchu, Aria, AzumangaDaiou, Bakuon, Barakamon, BinbouShimaiMonogatari, BinzumeYousei, ChicchaYukiTsukaiSugar, Danchigai, DanshiKoukouseinoNichijou, Figure17, GakuenUtopia, GJ-bu, Gochuumon, HanamaruYouchien, HanasakuIroha, Hanayamata, HidamariSketch, Hitohira, Hyouka, Ichigo100%, IchigoMashimaro, IkokuMeiroNoCroisee, Joshiraku, Kamichu!, K-On!, KiniroMosaic, Kitakubu, KodomoNoJikan, KokoroToshokan, KyouNoGoNoNi, LuckyStar, Mahoraba, MahouTsukaiNiTaisetsuNaKoto, MinamiKe, NatsuiroKiseki, NonNonBiyori, OnegaiTwins, OreImo, PaniPoni, PapaKiki, Piano, Rec, RumikoTheatre, Tamayura, TariTari, Sketchbook, UsagiDrop, WakabaGirl, YokohamaCountryCafe, YuruYuri, Yuyushiki …though even that is just the result of a cursory index read-through.

Does Slice of Life anime show you more about life in Japan than other anime?

Comparably? Yes.In the sense that they typically spend most (if not all) of their runtime in contemporary, everyday, urban or rural Japanese environments. As opposed to showing you the insides of spaceships, mecha cockpits, medieval fantasy worlds, swordfights, transformation scenes or whatnot. But of course many Slice-of-Life titles are actually hybrids with other genres, so this will only hold partly true for a lot of them.Titles like Barakamon, Tamayura, Bunny Drop and maybe Hanasaku Iroha for example still come comparably close to reality. At least as long as you ignore the personalities.Hanasaku IrohaOthers stay pretty close but deliberately “break” choice aspects of reality, like Natsuiro Kiseki, Non Non Biyori, Binbou Shimai Monogatari, Gingitsune or even Kamichu. And then, of course, there are many that carry the “Slice of Life” descriptor more or less as a misnomer—while actually being mostly bonkers. Titles such as KiniroMosaic, YuruYuri, Yuyushiki, Mahoraba or even Nichijou. All of which are great shows, mind you. But not even remotely helpful when it comes to describing actual life and behaviors in Japan. And even the most realistic Slice of Life titles still apply a multitude of “filters” to actual Japanese reality, significantly changing things around—to make the product more entertaining/appealing, even for a Japanese audience:The personalities (exaggerated and unhinged). The way characters talk (overly simple and loose/rough). The way they interact with each other (too casual/nosy, even for close friends). The way they interact with the world (naively and randomly). The way the locations are presented (partly sanitized and idealized).Heck, even the weather… all of these things are still subject to heavy idealization and simplification, even in the best cases. So yes, SoL titles are on average closer to the truth than fantasy or action ones. But never mistake them for a spyglass into actual everyday Japan. Accept that they are a kaleidoscope, at best. Meaning you will inevitably see a lot of noise and flashy colors, with some truth mixed in.

Is there any good slice-of-life anime you can suggest to make me feel good?

You seem like life’s got you down a bit and you need some fun anime to lift your spirits. So here are my recommendations:BarakamonThis is definitely number 1 on my list in terms of slice of life anime. No other anime has come close to the refreshed feeling I get from this. It always help me get out of a slump. Barakamon is a light-hearted comedy that’s guaranteed to make you smile! And it comes packed with a couple of great life lessons to take away :)The plot is about the calligraphy prodigy, Handa Seishuu, who seems to have lost his way in life. After punching the arts director at an exhibition, his father sends Handa off to a remote island so he can discover himself.-2. Amagi Brilliant ParkAnother comedy with a tinge of seriousness. It’s about rescuing a park filled with magical residents from another world. With 3 months to go, the old park must attract almost 250, 000 customers or be closed down. Tag along for the ride and a bit of subtle fan service ;)-3. Hataraku Maou SamaAfter accidentally teleporting himself and his closest adviser to earth in a battle against the hero, the Demon Lord finds that he prefers the simplicity of earth far more. Hence begins the comedy of the once terrifying demon lord settling down and becoming a part-timer. Though his attempts at a peaceful life become somewhat complicated as others such as the hero transport over as well.-4. Dog DaysLast but not least on this recommendations list is Dog Days! The plot begins with the Republic of Biscotti facing the predicament of invasion by neighbouring country Galette. Like in all similar situations, a “hero” is summoned from earth. Shinku, a junior high school boy living on Earth is chosen. With 3 seasons, this anime is all but having a fun adventure with friends.-Enjoy!
