Which university has good graphic design program?

I study at the University of Art and Design Offenbach am Main.Graphic design is one of our main focuses that also has a broad intersection with other fields like illustration, type design, electronic media and experimental space concepts. You are going to have much of a free choice creating your curriculum, which is not very common in other german universities. Almost everybody speaks English and there are a plenty of practical courses like silk printing, wood printing, desktop publishing, preprint, industrial printing technologies and many more. The University is well internationally connected and ist currently expanding its exchange programs. It is also the smallest art university in Germany but definitely not the unless one. The atmosphere is very friendly and literally everyone knows everyone. I just love this place!)Check out following links to find out more:Klasse Hesse (Prof. Klaus Hesse - communication design )Typeclass Lobe (Prof. Sascha Lobe - typography )Königsklasse (Prof. Eike König - illustration)University's instagramUniversity's homepageSorry for poor spelling)

Why do you study graphic design?

Graphic designer here. I finished school 11 years ago and am doing quite well for myself. One of the most important things about school that people rarely discuss is that your fellow students are your future professional peers. A benefit of going to a good school is having good peers.

I knew I wanted to study design years before the term existed. In the 1970s and '80s, I knew I wanted to do commercial art, but not advertising, I was very lucky to have come across the people that steered me in the right direction. I continue to enjoy it (partially for the money of course) because I enjoy solving problems creatively. I dabbled in graphic design for 2-3 years after high school by myself, volunteering my services to local non-profits. Schooling has done wonders to my scope of work and thinking, though when I was in school, I was stifled. Design classes are very tough, much harder than anything you will encounter in your professional career.

It is a tough field, but if you are a good designer with good communication skills, you will do very well. Businesses pay top dollar not because you can make a pretty image, but because they can trust you to deliver on time, in a unique manner.

By the way, I'm in my mid-30s now, and my parents still say my pursuit of perfection is going to drive me insane. I think they're kind of missing the point, all graphic designers have to be a little nuts. :)

One bit of advice. In your future career, there will be more and more designers out there all competing for the same bite of cheese. My advice is to be confident and do not undercharge. Look up the Graphic Arts Guilds "Guide to Ethical Pricing" and use it. When I first started out, I lost work for being too cheap despite being the candidate a company likes. People associate expensive services and products with top-notch services and products.

Where can one study graphic design in Spain?

Since I reside in Pakistan, I have no idea on where you could study graphic designing in Spain. But wait, taking it in a broader way, you can always learn absolutely anything from zero to hundred online. YouTube is full of tutorials. Just search the keyword and there you go. This can be done to begin with. Rememeber keep noting it down since writing on paper is also an essential part of learning as even writing down also gets stored in one part of your brain. Together with noting also make a habit of practicing that act.As you move by, you could switch towards Lynda where you can get paid courses and also receive certifications on completion of the course. Graphic Design has no link with the quality of degree. Your testimonial and portfolio speak for yourself. If these are amazing you are good to go. If you are lacking in this, no university can save you in getting a project. I am never in an intention to discourage university studies but this is also an aspect and it is also important to teach people.Good Luck!

Graphic Design or Studio Art major?

Hey Tarawr the Ninja, if that's your name... awesome!

Okay, I did graphic design as a major... and I regret not getting a degree in a science related field, I also regret not studying more about writing. Writing is crucial for what I do now... I run an online startup, for which I'm a graphic designer and UX (user experience) designer. Knowing photoshop, illustrator and other graphics programs are crucial to what I do, but knowing how to communicate to people and run a business on a day to day... are more important.

Graphic design is ultimately self-taught... but you need to know where to look for inspiration and how-to-learn. Having a resource of smart peers in college (my graphic design and arts field majors) around me helped inspire and motivate me everyday. Can you do a dual major??

I would choose art if I were you, if you have to choose between the two and then focus all your focus in the art program on being a graphic designer. You'll be able to accomplish WAY cooler stuff, without the pressure of producing a cookie-cutter graphic design degree.

Finally, who you are surrounded by is the most important thing. Check out start-up university, if you're motivated enough, maybe you just need to be surrounded by people who will push you to where you need to go.

There are a few majors you might be thinking of, but here are the lists I used when I looked for a place. Though most universities offer classes only in German.Public universities only: Hochschulen für Design, Kunst, Architektur, ModeWith private academies: Medien-, Grafik- Und Kommunikationsdesign-Studiengänge In Deutschland - Bachelor & MasterIf you can, I would highly recommend visiting the universities when they have a Werkschau (Exhibition of student projects) and generally talk to everyone (Students, Alumni, lecturers) to see which university is closest to the image and direction you’re heading to.
