Why don't men wear makeup?

Thanks for the A2A. Let me answer your question from biological aspects of psychology and cultural aspects. There's no right or wrong answer but there are certain aspects we need to touch upon. As we already know, men and women are completely different creatures both psychologically and biologically. There are several books written on these differences and still there's a long way ahead before both these genders understand each other. One of the major differences between men and women is Men seek attractive women as their partners and women seek men who have wealth and power. However, things have changed a bit of late as men also want to look good because women also prefer to be with handsome men. In this backdrop, let's try to understand how Makeup fits into the overall scheme. So, what's the goal of Makeup. It is to make someone look beautiful, attractive and young. That's why it appeals to women a lot and over a period of time it became a feminine thing completely. If we look at history, men in ancient Egypt wore eyeliner and in the early 19th century it was believed men wore make up and women sometimes wore trousers in Germany. We also see Johnny Depp wearing eyeliner in his private life.Generally speaking women have been valued primarily for their appearance in Western societies (ie Helen of Troy, Marie Antoinette, Marilyn Monroe, etc). While this is changing, it still is largely true today. Since cosmetics enhance facial features and qualify them on their fertility, it's normal to acknowledge that makeup is a feminine thing.Make up allows a mechanism through which women can more closely align themselves with whatever cultural standards for beauty exist, raising their desirability. Men, on the other hand, have typically been valued for things other than appearance (again, with some exceptions), such as their economic status or social capital. These gendered roles have been a part of Western Society since antiquity, and explain why women have far more options and leeway when it comes to modifying their appearance. One last thing is psychologically, it seems okay for women to emulate men and not vice versa although there's no writing on the wall about this.

What would happen if men also wore makeup?

If someone wants to put on makeup, let them, irrespective of gender. But we aren't quite there yet where (most) men feel the need to put make up on.WhyRight now, beauty standards for men are focused on grooming products and body building. The Ruggedly Handsome Man has a stubble, sharp clothes and tight biceps. There are products and services that address this need. Naturally these industries are booming. In contrast, women need to have flawless skin and hair, while looking young, hairless and thin. Naturally, all the industries catering to this need are booming too. What Could ChangeA lot of men have started putting makeup on and making YouTube tutorials. While that's good, we need to worry about the beauty industry turning their attention to this segment.Image: Jeffree Star, Beauty BloggerOnce it becomes more socially acceptable, advertisers will start subtly creating the need for men to look ‘flawless’ as well. (Flawless is a word heavily used for makeup products, tutorials and ads).Ads are great at influencing social standards. They're infuriatingly good. And then, men would start wearing makeup. Finally coming to the original question; What Will Happen If Men Start Wearing MakeupBest Case Scenario: We'll live in a world free of judgement. People who want to wear makeup would wear makeup and people who don't would still be considered beautiful. Makeup wouldn't be a beauty standard but just a simple choice.Worse Case Scenario: Beauty standards would skyrocket. Makeup, plastic surgery and the likes would be the norm. The beauty industry will reach its full potential by preying on every gender. Cosmetic companies will go crazy releasing product after product. Advertisements will get bolder. We'll all be constantly burdened by the need to look “Flawless”. The only winner here is the Beauty Industry: All the cosmetic houses that will make billions of dollars because of this.Just like The Capitol in The Hunger Games. While children fight to death inside the area, the outside world is no different. The residents have over-the-top needs and crazy trends and the industries make high profits.

Is it a sin in the Bible for men to wear makeup?

Is it against Christianity for men to wear girly makeup? In the Old Testament it prohibits cross-dressing but wearing makeup is not "dressing." And Christians don't have to abide by Old Testament laws.

Makeup for men with dark circles?

I'm aware that it's still considered somewhat taboo for men to wear makeup in most instances, and therefore, I myself have never considered wearing any until recently. I've been plagued by dark circles for quite some time now, but being new to all of this, I'm completely lost as to what to look for. All I want is a quality product that will hide dark circles under my eyes without it ever being noticeable or 'cakey'.

Also, while I'm already asking: with all of the different types of makeup out there (mineral, powders, liquid, etc.) do you girls (or guys) have any advice on a good concealer or foundation to use? Remember, I'm not asking for anything that'll make it obvious that I'm wearing anything.

Thanks
