Is There Some Truth Behind

Is there some truth behind every lie?

How can you lie if there's no truth to lie about?

Is there some truth behind every joke?

Great question.

Psychologically, let's just say that quite often the people most offended by a joke are those that are insecure, deep inside, about their own self-esteem, personal values, religious convictions, etc.

Humor is often simply a sociological mirror.

(There are, of course, exceptions. Jokes that stereotype, that blatantly are sexist or racist, etc. can offend without a shred of truth behind the disguise of humor.)

What is the psychology science backing the saying "behind every joke there is some truth"?

Thanks for the request Alessandro!I’m not sure of the science…here is my theorizing. A joke is a way of relaying meaning, as are all forms of communication. Although a joke is an attempt to get a reaction, a laugh, and appreciation, its also pointing at underlying meaning. The humour is meant to deflect the seriousness of the meaning, to soften the blow if you will. If you “joke” about lawyers, you also are attempting to say something true about lawyers. If you joke about how terrible your spouse’s cooking is you probably believe at some level that it isn’t all that great.Be careful what you joke about!

Is there some truth to the saying "Behind every joke, there is an underlying truth."?

...that is in a general manner of speaking.

For example:

"THE BALOONIST"

A young woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

"She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be an Obama Democrat."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow...now it's my fault."

...so, is there some truth behind the saying "Behind every joke, there is some underlying truth."???

Do you think that there is truth behind superstitions?

Yes. But different cosmic systems have different superstitions, for they are made up of different elements. For example, 13 is an unlucky number for Westerners, while 4 is bad in Asia - it means death. These things all come about due to really low level entities and spirits meddling with human affairs. They can’t do much unless people want them to. Many of them are from the netherworld, and some escape to the netherworld from the underworld when their sinful karma has been reduced to a satisfactory extent. It’s just like sorcery or feng shui or things like that. They’re called small worldly paths, and they can’t grant you salvation. But you won’t see any effect at all from them nowadays, for people who “want” them still don’t fundamentally believe they exist; they hope they exist, but what they really believe in is our modern science. So there is no point in paying any attention to superstitions, and you’ll never get any good results from pursuing them. You’d be better off watching a Disney movie where good prevails over evil.

Is there any truth behind the series Supernatural?

While it is a fictitious television show, the show is based on many legends and religions. Whether or not you believe it you must decide for yourself.A large portion of Supernatural is actually based on the Bible. The apocalyptic portion is based on the book of revelation in the Bible. Lucifer was in fact a “misunderstood” angel who loved god too much. It is written that when 66 seals are broken, the apocalypse will come. Saint Michael the Archangel will defeat Lucifer for the final time. Many will die, but it is the sacrifice that must be made for heaven on earth. Most religions look forward to this, as it also entails the resurrection of the dead. The wicked are to die and the faithful will live in heaven on earth. When the show talks about the four horsemen, they actually read directly from the Bible. As for the monsters and legends, they are also based on folklore. There is a lot of Native American folklore, but also modern day too.Nearly all aspects of the show have been believed by groups of people at some point. It's a matter of whether or not you believe.

What does "there is a truth behind every lie" mean?

Many lies are exaggerations. They started out as true, but got away. That does not make them worth hearing.

Is there some truth behind the myth that introverts can be easily dominated?

Firstly, I don’t think that any such myth exits. Even if you’ve heard of any such thing then you see, it’s not at all justified, as domination and submission are responses, not qualities or attributes, and responses depend on several factors like situation, mood of the person responding, source of stimuli to which one is responding and all these factors are absolutely unpredictable and so are responses.Qualities, on the other hand are predictable to some extent (thanks to the researchers in the field of human psychology and behavior). Yet, “qualities” are very dynamic in nature and cannot be defined statically. Thus you cannot connect introversion or extroversion (qualities, defined by how much social exposure a person would like to have) to how dominantly or submissively one would react in any situation.Whether a person dominates or submits will be determined by the facts that whether he feels the need to dominate or submit, the requirement of the situation, how the person interprets the situation, etc.
