How long does it take to become a tax preparer ?

I agree, you should take a tax preparation course. H&R Block has a good one, but most of the courses you see offered by companies like Block are offered in their offices. They start in September and you have to attend 3 hours two nights a week for 10 weeks. It's a total of 60 hours. (That's in California. In other states, you can get started with just 3 hours.) If you don't start the class in September, you'll miss out.

The other option is an online tax course. I offer a tax course through my online tax school that qualifies for California preparers. I also offer courses for people who are not in California. An online school allows you to proceed at your own pace. If you are motivated to start this January, you can still get started and be ready to go by mid-January.

Of course, online tax schools are still an option for next year. I recommend you get started in August or September.

California, Oregon, and Maryland all have regulations on tax preparers. I only know California. As of right now, a criminal record is not an issue. You do have to be 18 and be able to obtain a tax preparer bond in the amount of $5,000. Credit is usually the issue here, not criminal record.

The only thing I can think of when your criminal record may be an issue is if you want to go out on your own and start your own business. The IRS conducts a background check and requires you to be fingerprinted when you apply for an EFIN - an e-file identification number - which you need to be able to file your clients' tax returns electronically. I don't know the criteria they use to determine if someone can get an EFIN and whether or not one felony would cause them to turn you down, but it's something you should think about.

Please feel free to contact me with your questions about tax school.

Good luck to you!

Deferred Adjudication of a Felony - does that mean I'm still considered convicted?

Deferred Adjudication of a Felony - does that mean I'm still considered convicted? I've completed my probation, paid my fines, etc.
First Degree Felony for possession and distribution of a controlled substance. I was placed on deferred adjudication, all requirements were completed satisfactory and the deferred adjudication was terminated in July 2005. What this translates to:

Deferred adjudication is the deferral of a judgment against you for a charged criminal offense in the State of Texas. Basically, it is a plea bargain between the person accused and the court. During this probationary period the court withholds judgment. Once I completed the probation, the charges were dismissed and there is no conviction on my record although it does say that I was arrested, placed on deferred adjudication, and the probation terminated.

All that being said is this enough to not grant me access to Canada if I wanted to visit family and my fiance? (reside in Houston, Texas as a US Citizen)

Is it necessary to hire/visit CA for company registration in India?

No, it isn’t necessary to hire / visit CA for the Incorporation of your company in India. However the process becomes extremely difficult without one, especially if you are not from a financial background.A charted accountant or company secretary’s sign is mandatory on the SPICe forms. The Registrar of Companies (ROC) has introduced a new form for the Formation of Companies. This form reduces the time taken for Incorporation of a company from 15-20 working days to 7-10 working days. These are known as SPICe forms. One can now Incorporate his / her Private Limited Company / LLP for FREE with Business Guru. Click on Register a Private Limited Company and use coupon code "WABG" ! Misdemeanor (petty theft) charged as felony (burglary)?

A lot of agencies like to pad their statistics by reporting as many felony arrests as possible. If you intended to steal the shoes when you entered the store, it was a burglary (entry with intent to steal), so they can technically justify claiming a felony arrest here.

In a shoplifting situation, burglary is an extremely difficult charge to prove, unless you copped out to it (or came in with a booster bag or some such), so prosecutors almost never charge this as burglary, but as petty theft. The citation is not the charge--a prosecutor will decide what charge to file. The security guard was correct: most likely it will be charged as petty theft.

You should not do anything other than hire an attorney or, if you are unable to afford an attorney, ask to have one appointed to represent you. I would recommend strongly against taking old fuzz's advice. It cannot help you to call the prosecutor, and it could hurt.

Why do conservatives want all illegal immigrants deported when in Mexico we don't deport Americans who came to hide from the government/cops?

I tried to tunnel into Mexico once.
