Is This Normal Or Something Else

Is it normal to dream that you are someone else?

Hi hillbillylana

In dreams, anything is "normal."

To make sense of what's actually going on here, you need to understand that whilst we are asleep we alternate between bouts of plain unconsciousness (about 90 minutes each) and periods of REM sleep (about 20-30 minutes each). REM sleep is when we do our dreaming.

Neuroscientists' best guess at the moment is that when we dream the brain is sorting out all the information we taken in whilst we were last awake, and produces coherent patterns so that we can make sense of the new information, thoughts, etc. in comparison with all the information we already have in store (in the neocortex).

Part of this sorting process seems to involve shuffling material back and forth via the hippocampus (short term memory) BEFORE it is arranged in a meaningful order.

We know that if people do remember their dreams at all, it is usually whatever they were dreaming during the last period of REM sleep before they woke up.

So what we actually remember, be it pleasant or unpleasant, is simply whatever was shuttling through short-term memory, at a time when stuff was all jumbled up and didn't necessarily have any pattern to it at all.

Hence our dreams sometimes seem quite sensible, but more often we remember dreaming about very weird things, like dreaming you actually are someone else.
The stranger a dream is, the more likely we are to feel it has some hidden significance, because most of us have a strong need to have things "make sense.".

Either way, be assured that this is your brain doing, very expertly, just one of the many tasks it is capable of.

Poison Ivy or something else? Is this normal?

Hello! I recently developed a rash/hives with blisters. I had it checked at school and they thought it was just allergies so they prescribed me hydrocortisone cream and banophen which should be like benadryl? However, I used these two medications and it did not help, if anything it may have irritated my skin and made it worse. I ended up going to urgent care and they told me that it might be poison ivy. They prescribed me triaminoclone acetonide cream and methylprednisolone tablets. I have been using these two items but I noticed that I am getting more itchy bumps in more areas of my body and am extremely itchy. If this is poison ivy, is it normal to experience more and worse symptoms even after taking medication?

Does my penis look normal or is it something else?

So I masturbate, and when I look down at my penis, I see extra skin on the middle side of the penis. One side has more than the other, and under my penis the line that is usually in the middle Is on one side more than the other. I don't know if this is normal or not, because when I watch porn, I see that all the penises are usually like stick straight. And mine does not curve upward when erect, it goes hard but stays downward. I'm 17 by the way. So please tell me if its normal or not and how should I fix it.
