How should I dress for my first homecoming dance?
It’s semi-formal, so for a guy not a tux or anything just a shirt and tie.A girl on the other hand should wear a dress that is just above the knee if not higher. It shouldn’t be too fancy, but it definitely shouldn’t be casual. Don’t be afraid to wear one with a little fluff to it. It is also okay to wear a fitted one.The hair shouldn’t be too elaborate. Save that for something formal. Just curl it and/or put it in a simple updo. Don’t go too heavy on the jewelry, either. A necklace, bracelet, or earrings. I would say pick two. If you turn out to be a guy, sorry for rambling on and disregard practically everything I just said. Good luck :)

Always best to err on the formal side. If you're going somewhere more casual a pair of khakis ( higher waist no pleats and a comfortable leg with a crease) a button down and a more casual tie like a knit or seasonal fabrics such as wool or cotton. For shoes I'd go with a dark brown slip on loafer. Matching socks should be given. Finally either a sweater or a blazer, not a suit jacket because that looks like you spilt something on your pants and grabbed the closest thing before leaving. If it's more formal a dark suit with dark shoes preferably a lace up with a matching belt and watch. In this case a muted shirt in either stripes or a light colored dress shirt. Just my 2 cents though!

I wore this my senior year in high school.Looks formal but in the deep South, we tend to be.My BFF, myself and 10 other girls were selected for Homecoming Court by the football team and had to wear hats and gloves.Dad (right) was my escort for the court.

You don’t need to wear these when dancing, of course.I’ve always opted for shorter dresses for homecoming, as they are easier to dance in. So I bought this dress I'll leave the link. Well it's actuallly not the exact same dress, but it is one shoulder royal blue and the same length and everything, anyways my mom and I went shopping (she lives 3 hours away), and our relationship you could call a little rocky, anyways we were shopping and she was getting pissed off at me because I didn't like any of the dresses left, so I settled for a dress I don't exactly love. Showed it to my dad and he made a comment (can't remember what it was, it wasn't that he thought it was slutty or anything he said something though and it made me rethink my dress) Anyways I'm going to wear it, I just want an opinion. I'm 5'8 117lbs and fit, I just don't want to be the slutty one or something. What's the difference between prom and homecoming?
Homecoming is typically for all grades of a high school. It is more casual, with party dresses for girls and nice pants and a collared shirt for guys. It is much more dancy.Prom is more formal and is typically only for juniors and seniors or just seniors. Long, ball gown esque dresses are worn by girls, and the guys wear tuxes. If the parents are lenient the prom-goers will rent a hotel room for the night and stay together through the weekend. The Monday after prom is also, typically, senior skip day.
Do people wear hose with their homecoming/prom dresses anymore?
Sheer leg coloured pantyhose is out! Nothing will make a person look older than they really are faster than pantyhose. When I see sheer leg coloured pantyhose I immediately think a woman over 45 or guy dressing as a girl. It looks like you afraid of your legs, and there's nothing wrong with you legs, trust me. I'm over 45 and once I stopped wearing plain nylon panty hose I will never wear them again. (Just because we did something back in the day doesn't mean it was good idea: remember huge shoulder pads and flock of seagull inspired hair?) It doesn't look more polished or put together, it looks silly -like you are afraid of your legs. Patterned and/or coloured tights are far more fashionable, sophisticated and modern. If it's a cool day and hose is needed for a bit of warmth, a legitimate reason, then wear something with colour. A deep super sheer shimmer black would be miles better than leg coloured hose. Otherwise, bare legs with a bit of bronzer or shimmer powder.
