Is Wearing A Police Jacket Impersonation

Can my son wear my U.S. military field jacket, or is he impersonating a member of the armed forces by doing so?

He can, so long as he removes any and all insignia such as rank, nametapes, unit patches, and so on. Also, how new is the field jacket? If it’s a BDU pattern, then no one will really look twice as that was phased out and a lot of them can be found in military surplus stores.I wore my dad’s field jacket when I was younger after he retired, removing rank insignia, patches, and so forth.Like anything, it does rely on context. In movies and TV shows, actors are required to make subtle changes (such as wearing ribbons out of order), the insignia being place incorrectly, and so on if they’re wearing a current uniform unless they were a member of that service in the past and have had an honorable discharge.Members of the Armed Forces, Reserves and National Guard who are in a movie are required to wear their uniforms correctly. They might only be there as extras, but they’re representing the Armed Forces and must always provide a professional appearance. It is not illegal for a civilian to wear military duty uniform items as regular clothes, so long as they remove all signs that they’re wearing it as a uniform. Keep in mind, that not all services, units, or installations are equally tolerant of that, but the most they will do is politely ask that you don’t do so again, so long as you remove any way for it to be interpreted as you impersonating a service member.

Impersonating a police officer?

No. When a person "impersonates a police officer" he commits acts that would be in the execution of the office of a police officer, such as pulling over a car, serving a warrant or arresting someone, reporting to a criminal matter as a police office, etc. If a person wearing a uniform similar to that of a police officer and acted out as a police official then he could be charged.

Impersonating a police officer, I have been charged- need advice.?

Every private citizen is allowed to wear a "Police" shirt, that's not against the law!

I see people wearing _PD shirts all the time, what the hell, my g/f bought me one in NYC that said NYCPD.

As for the car, I'm not to sure about, the only thing you can do is take a picture of it and bring it to court with you. I dint see a problem with you putting a light on top of your car when parked at your house, that's not impersonating. Impersonating is announcing or making people believe that you are a police officer through your actions (not wearing clothes), but rather stating that you are one.

I dont think there will be any legit charges brought against you when you state your case. (i hope you have a clean record up to this date though)

Illegal to wear "Police Officer" clothing in public?

it is illegal to wear a police officers uniform. it's against the law to impersonate a police officer. the uniforms people wear on Halloween are not the exact same thing as the real official uniforms so they can get by and wear it, because people know what the real one looks like and on the costume, there's no real badge or stuff that the real officer has like the name of the city, logo, colors gadgets....

Why do some police officers wear uniform and some don't?

Officers work assignments that require them wear a uniform do so, those who work in investigative units, dress according to their assignment, which is usually suit and tie (homicide, financial crimes) or business casual (juvenile, missing persons), most narcotics officers dress to fit the role!!!

Non-uniformed police officer normally as a rule carry a jacket or bullet proof vest that is emblazoned with "POLICE" of the front and back, if they make an arrest while not in uniform, but as a rule with our department non-uniformed officers who are knowingly going to make an arrest must be accompanied by a uniform officer! It is prudent for an officer to identify himself before he puts his hands on someone to make an arrest especially a female, just makes common sense!!!

Is it illegal to wear a police patch?

How are you wearing it? From my understanding as a police patch collector, it is illegal to use patches in any other form then as a collectible or on the actual uniform, but many people can get away with sewing them on backpacks, purses, hanging them on walls, in collections, etc.

The laws in every state differ, but the fact that you purchased the patch at a police department should tell you not to worry about it, just think of the implications of wearing it and the constant harassing by officers. Also, there are no laws regarding this issue. For example, impersonating an officer would be wearing a uniform and a badge and telling people your a police officer or pulling people over in your car. For simply wearing a patch on your jacket, I would not think anyone would charge you with impersonating, they just might take the patch away or make you remove it.

Play it smart and put it on a backpack or purse, no one will question that and you won't get into trouble.

Is it legal for me to own an offical mexican police jacket in USA?

No.Any official Mexican Police jacket has to be stolen. They don't sell those in Mexico, you know. However, a lot of criminals wear them as trophies after they murder a cop in Mexico simply to show everybody else how powerful, ruthless and dangerous they are.If you want to join a Mexican cartel then you can easily get their attention if you murder a cop to steal his jacket. Obvioulsy the law enforcement officials in the United States of America are aware of this and if they see you walking on the streets wearing one of these official jackets they will arrest you on the spot in the best case scenario or they will shoot you dead in the worst case scenario because there is nothing a cop hates more than a copkiller.Nobody will investigate your homicide either.I advice against it.
