What could be the cause of dull ankle pain?

What is chronic lateral ankle pain?Recurring or chronic pain on the outer side of the ankle often develops after an injury such as a sprained ankle. However, several other conditions may also cause chronic ankle pain. What are the symptoms of chronic lateral ankle pain?Pain, usually on the outer side of the ankle, may be so intense that you have difficulty walking or participating in sports. In some cases, the pain is a constant, dull ache.Difficulty walking on uneven ground or in high heelsA feeling of giving way (instability)SwellingStiffnessTendernessRepeated ankle sprainsWhat causes chronic lateral ankle pain? The most common cause for a persistently painful ankle is incomplete healing after an ankle sprain. When you sprain your ankle, the connecting tissue between the bones is stretched or torn. Without thorough and complete rehabilitation, the ligament or surrounding muscles may remain weak, resulting in recurrent instability. As a result, you may experience additional ankle injuries. Other causes of chronic ankle pain include:An injury to the nerves that pass through the ankle. The nerves may be stretched, torn, injured by a direct blow or pinched under pressure (entrapment).A torn or inflamed tendonArthritis of the ankle jointA fracture in one of the bones that make up the ankle jointAn inflammation of the joint lining (synovium)The development of scar tissue in the ankle after a sprain. The scar tissue takes up space in the joint, thus putting pressure on the ligaments. How Can I Get Rid Of My Ankle Pain? The type of treatment you receive for your ankle pain will be determined by the cause of the injury and the severity of the pain.In most mild cases, your doctor will have you use the RICE method. This consists of Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation of your ankle. Ice should be applied for twenty minutes at a time. Compression involves wrapping the ankle with an elastic bandage to provide support, and elevation helps to minimize bruising and swelling.Your doctor may also suggest using NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen, which can be bought over-the-counter.www.jointclinic.in

Shin Splints and Ankle Pain?

like you said, it might be shin splints... which is probably just from jumping back into doing all this since you've relaxed. I used to get them a lot too [[i was a short distance runner as well]] If you have a athletic trainer around, ask him what to do. he may have tou run half of practice, and then bike for th rest. Or he may have you stretch in a certain way. Sometimes they have you replace your shoes, and tape your shins for comfort. It's really a combination of relaxing your shins and practicing as a treat ment.

Restless legs or leg cramps anyone heard of tying string around your ankles to remedy this?

No. Where did you hear this? Someone is pulling your leg, I think. There are a lot of god treatments out there for restless legs now-a-days! See your doctor, you may be asked to do a sleep study to find out the severity of yor condition. All this consists of is hooking some wires up to your legs, head, and monitor you while you sleep.
Some times they want a two night study, where you maybe asked to come back after your doctor reviews your results. After this is all over the best treatment for you will be discussed and then you will THEN get some relief! Not from tying string around your ankles!
Good Luck!!

What is going on with my ankle/foot/leg? Outer ankle, lower leg swelling. No known injuries. No bruising.?

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS! i had it myself! No cut, no bruise, just concentrated pain! Its called OSTEOMYLITUS. It an INFECTION IN THE BONE. i had it in my heel. I'm sorry, to have to tell you this, but i had to go to hospital and have 3 operations where they drain the fluid (infection) that is surrounding the bone. see your bone is like cheese with holes in it. and the infection get stuck actually IN the bone. so after the 3 operations i was on crutches for three months and had to take 15 tablets a day for 9 months! because there is a huge risk that the infection can come back. and it takes a long long time for it to go. but the fact that i was 11 at the time, meant that my bones were still growing and that the infection was pushed out and passed through my system. i don't what age you are, but all i can tell you is, the longer you leave it, the worse it will get, and you are more at risk of having the infection for life no matter how much operations you have. it took me 2 and a half years before my fot was fully strong again. i couldn,t walk for long at all cause my foot gotr real sore and tired. SEE YOUR DOCTOR NOW! AND GET SENT TO THE HOSPITAL! ITS OSTEOMYLITUS! INFECTION IN THE BONE! (I'm 99% certain! otherwise it could be arthritus. (I have juvenile arthritus) Believe me! tell me how you get on. i really care!! cAUSE I KNOW THE AGONY YOU FEEL its torture!
