What are the strengths and weaknesses of swords as weapons?
The advantage of swords compared to weapons like pikes, spears or axes is that they generally have quicker handling than these weapons and are more versatile; they can be used for both stabbing and slashing. Their advantage over daggers is that they are only slightly less quick while having much more weight to them.That being said there is a reason why swords have not generally been a main weapon of choice for most armies. Generally, swords are personal weapons, meaning they are designed more for single combat. They generally require lots of room to use properly which can make fighting in formation more difficult. Also, swords do not have the same reach as weapons like spears or pikes. An enemy arrayed in a tight phalanx formation with multiple spears pointed out is generally invulnerable to enemies armed with swords because a soldier with a sword can't get past these pikes being jabbed in their face in order to get at the opposing soldiers. Only when the phalanx can be outflanked and the cohesion of the formation broken can the swords potential be fully realized. And to address a point brought up in another post, in the instance that an enemy soldier is able to get past one of the spears/pikes usually there is a soldier directly behind that one with their own spear or pike to get anyone who gets past the first spear/pike. Some phalanx formations, like the Macedonian phalanx used 20 foot long pikes with as many as five rows of pikes facing the enemy so that for every enemy soldier there would be five pikes in his face making getting past all five pikes extremely difficult if not impossible. It was this quality which in part made Alexander the Great's army so formidable on the battlefield even in situations where it was vastly outnumbered.

I thought that Unohana's not beaten by 2nd Kenpachi, but she abandoned her tittle by some reasons, and then learnt Healing technique from Tenjirou Kirinji, and hiding her true identity till today. So, even she hasn't show her ability yet, but She's pretty strong. Her personal specialty is sword fighting, including her particular mastery in the art of kendō. Kidou master, has immense reiatsu, Shunpo expert, and keen intellect. So, I think it's fair enough for Unohana being top three. * Why Zaraki's in the bottom of the list? For now, it's fair enough for him in the bottom. Can't use all basic techniques of Shinigami (no zanjutsu, no kidou, no hohou, no hakuda) makes him as "the worst" fighter in Gotei 13.

1 Head Captain Yamamoto #8 Shunsui Kyroraku #13 Ukitake #5 Aizen #6 Kuchiki #4 Unohana #12 Kurotsuchi #2 Sui Fong #3 Ichimaru #9 Tosen #11 Kenpachi Zaraki #7 Komamura #10 Hitsugaya Yamamoto is obviously first. I put Hitsugaya last as he is the only captain that seems to lack the msot control over his bankai. Also, he has yet to fully uncover his true power and he is the youngest. Aizen is super smart, but Ukitake and Kyroyaku have been captains for ever and with their double sword power, they have the potential. Zaraki and Komamura are further down because Zaraki IS strong but has no bankai. And Komamura loses quite easily lol and his bankai isn't that strong actually. Byakuya is right after Aizen because Byakuya has skill and strategy to win and his bankai is powerful, especially since he is able to freely control it. Unohana and Kurotsuchi are middle because it is said that Unohana is pretty powerful and she has been on of the oldest captains. Kurotsuchi is super smart and knows how to win a battle strategicly. Tosen is eh okay, bankai is pretty good. Ichimaru is also okay, but more is expected from him. Soi Fong is actually pretty good, but her bankai has great limits and she is only skilled in the fast step. She can do a lot better. Well this is my opinion.(:
Who are the strongest Captains in Bleach?
Courtesy of the hogiako in his chest, souske aizen is the most powerful of all the captains,though even before that aizen was insanely powerful, he had surpassed his limits as a soul reaper, meaning he has maxed out his potential on all the various techniques a soul reaper can master, kido, hakudo, kendo etc. I mean this guy performed a powerful level 81 danku barrier without incantation while he was still a lieutenant, he possess twice the spirit energy of the average captain and was able to defeat 5 captains and the vizards all at once easily,he's a deadly combination of power and intelligence combine with the hogiako he's virtually unstoppable.However without the hogiako I'd say that title would fall back to the head captain,with his zampacto, years of experience and share power and skill, this man cast he strongest hado attack we've seen thus far, hado #96 itta kaso and almost leveled karakura town.In 3rd place for me it would have to squad 4 captain, retsu unohan,who is ironically the most peaceful captain and the only one we've never truly seen in battle in the series, she is the legendary kenpachi,first holding the title and the greatest and most ruthless fighter to exist.Feared even by kenpachi zaraki. Not to mention she is the second oldest of all the captains surpass only by Yamamoto,even captain shunsui and jushiro fear and respect her and there the first captains to graduate the academy.
