Liver Failure?
Blocked bile duct is usually diagnosed on symptoms and physical examination....ultra sound can be used to conform the diagnosis. Treatment can be gall bladder removal or there is a treatment in which a scope is fed into the bile duct and any obstruction removed. Prognosis without treatment for a completely blocked duct would be poor. If the problem was due to cirrhosis then stopping drinking would be essential, the damage could not be completely repaired but the liver is able to heal itself to a degree, and with no further drinking and medical treatment the course of the disease can be halted.
What is worse? Kidney Failure or Liver Failure?
Liver failure, because while there is a new procedure called liver dialysis, kidney dialysis is an established procedure that usually works well (although a transplant is better). Just to make some corrections: unfortunately no, people can't "always" replace a kidney, because too many people refuse to be organ donors. And people can also be living liver donors. Part of the liver is transplanted, and "grows" in both the donor and recipient. Also, a person does not have to be a family member to donate either a liver or kidney as a living donor.
Liver and Kidney Failure in Cat After Neutering?
At any point after you adopted this stray cat, did anyone take it to the vet for a complete check up with blood test to see how the internal organs were doing? A blood test for FIV and FeLV? The sad thing is people bring in cats and they don't have them vet checked and the could be diseased. Cats who get pregnant outdoors from random males means they can get sick and transmit those diseases to their kittens and at some point the disease is going to kick in and the kitten is going to die. That's why I suggest blood tests immediately BEFORE you become emotionally attached or spend a lot of money having it spayed or neutered only to find out you have to put the animal down because it's sick (FeLV is fatal). I doubt very much if the surgery caused it. Cats can have undiagnosed problems and one cat with unknown heart problem died while being spayed. It happens sadly. My condolences on the loss of the kitten. When you're ready adopt from the SPCA.
How long can a person live with liver and kidney failure and they are really bright yellow?
Only the doctor can give you an estimate on this. With the tests they have done and knowing his medical conditions and all his other medical condtions in the past... they can give you an idea. When the liver fails, the kidneys will follow because they are trying to remove the toxins from the body and can become overwhelmed by this. There is a difference between liver failure and complete liver failure. When the liver isn't able to do the functions it once did for the body efficiently, it is known as liver failure...complete liver failure is when the liver cells have died off to the point that the organ has no function...in which case, the patient will die if they don't have a transplant. The yellowing you see in his skin, etc...is caused because the liver isn't able to break down a pigment known as bilirubin into a soluble form where it will flow from the liver in the bile to the intestines...instead it stays in the blood and builds up causing this yellow color of the whites of the eyes, mucus membranes and the skin and also will make the urine quite dark. Someone who is in complete liver failure and is going into complete kidney failure may go into a coma first before they really die. Since you said he was talking and sleeping...this may mean he is not that far gone yet. It also means he might be on medication that may be causing this sleepiness. If his kidneys are having a problem, they may place him on dialysis. IF his abdomen is full with fluid, they can drain that with a procedure known as paracentesis. I hope this, in some way, helps to answer your questions.

Can Pneumonia cause Kidney and liver failure? Has anyone ever heard of this?
It probably all started from the pneumonia. What's most likely happening is he got blood poisoning or sepsis from the lung infection and that is causing the other organs to shut down. I would imagine he's on a ventilator also. I'll say it looks bad but I've seen worse survive. God bless and care for your cousin.
