Lose Weight Or Gain Muscle

How to lose weight and gain muscle?

I want to lose weight but I've read that gaining muscle makes you gain weight. Is it possible to lose weight and then build up muscle? Or do I have to build muscle to lose the weight? How does it work? I'm looking to lose 30-35 pounds. Thanks

Can I gain muscle while losing weight?

Yes and No.The Yes side: It’s easier and can be achievable for gym beginners, the genetically favoured (very low chance), the young (18–29), those who have previously had muscle in that region before (muscle memory) - all of course combined with the proper nutrition and right weight training. The No side: All not in that previous group, so most people cannot. Of course the exception has to be steroids and other chemical compounds, which make your body gain muscle quicker than those with perfect genetics. You don’t even need to exercise and will gain muscle. It’s that powerful (but also dangerous). My advice is to focus on either losing weight or gaining muscle. Don’t tread the middle ground, for next to nothing will change. You need a caloric deficit to lose (fat) weight and a caloric surplus to gain (muscle) weight. If you don’t exercise during weight loss, you will lose more muscle. That’s not what you want, so you continue training for you not to lose muscle. If you are on a slight caloric surplus (good nutrition with enough protein) you need to train in order for that surplus to be mainly put to build and maintain muscle (more weight). Either way keep on training, because it will be good for lowering your body fat percentage. Most people recommend losing weight first, but you can go either way. Just don’t bulk up for too long, because you may realize that a lot of your gains were just fat and you need to keep that in check once in a while to “keep it real” so that you know your actual progress.

I want to lose weight, not gain Muscle.?

Point 1) Muscles aren't evil---- You've got a bizarre notion of health to think that muscles are bad. If you are female (your screenname sounds female), you should realize that the sexiest bodies are shaped by long, sleek, toned, solid muscles. No matter what you actually weigh, or what size pants you fit into, if you have less muscle and more fat than a more toned person, you're going to be jiggly and out-of-shape and unhealthy. When people daydream about being skinny, what you're actually wanting is look great, feel great, feel healthy, and be confident. Being a small out-of-shape person with lots of jiggly cellulose and not much shapely muscle is not going to accomplish that dream for you. If you want to feel like a strong, confident, thin person, you're going to have to incorporate some exercise into your life and make peace with building a little muscle tone.

Point 2) Muscles don't add bulk---- If all you're saying is that you don't want to look like a steroid-fed bodybuilder, relax. VERY VERY few people actually achieve that, and it takes a lot of extra dedicated work and effort to get there. The average person just working out will never come close to looking like Arnold.

Point 3) Muscles are hard to avoid---- It's healthiest to lose weight half by eating the correct number of calories for your body and half by workouts. Workouts of any sort (including just walking or running) will build your muscles up. Anything that burns calories efficiently to help you lose weight will also build some muscle. If you want NO muscle, you'll have to literally sit on your bum and do nothing at all and wait for them to atrophy.

Point 4) Muscles grow slower than you can burn fat anyway.---- Women can only gain an average of about ONE pound of muscle per month, assuming that she's eating a balanced diet and engaging an intense (but not bodybuilder-intense) regimen of a few hours weight-lifting per week and a few hours cardio per week. I've gained a little more like 1.5 pounds of muscle in a single month before, but at the same time, all the exercises I did to build that muscle caused me to lose about 9 pounds of fat, so the scale still showed weight loss.

Point 5) Genetics do play a role, but not enough of one to give you an excuse. The reason your whole family is fat is because your whole family takes cues from each other and eats poorly and fails to exercise together. Change the tide for your family.

Does dancing gain muscle or lose weight?

I am hip hopping to lose weight and I've been doing it for 4 days now and did lose 2 pounds but I am just wondering, does dancing lose weight or gain muscle on my legs? my legs been pretty sore on my "lower" leg only. I certainly do not want to gain muscle on my leg but rather lose fat. Can you tell me if it's just too sore from too much dancing or it is actually gaining muscle. I feel like it's gaining muscle or maybe I'm just thinking too much. I'm a girl and is 15 years old. Thanks for your answer :)

Can you lose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

Yes u can I know what im talking about. U need to drink protein shakes after u work out. U can buy protein powder and u can just mix with water or put it in the blender and make it with a smoothie. Make sure they have little to no calories and little to no carbs. U need to burn fat so yes do some cardio. But if ur gonna lift weights don't work the same muscle group 2 days in a row. For example do triceps and chest one day and shoulders and biceps the next. U need to make sure ur burning more calories then your eating. So u have to stay away from fatty foods and don't eat a lot of carbs. Eat as little carbs and calories as u can basically. If u do all this u WILL lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Good luck dude hard work pays off

Can you lose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

I don't mean turn fat into muscle. I'm wondering if I can run on the treadmill for 20 minutes, and then lift weights afterwards at the gym 5 days a week with 2 resting days. Will this make me lose weight and build muscle at the sane time? Or is it better to lose the weight first, then build muscle?

Help! I an confused...

Using Herbalife to gain muscle and lose weight?

The best way to increase body protein is to increase your protein intake. Herbalife formula 1 does not have enough protein for muscle building (its just an overpriced milkshake) and even with the additional formula added, the extra muscle gain will simply disapear unless you keep taking Formul 1 and Formula 3 which will be expensive in the long term.

Cut out fatty foods with protein rich foods like chicken beans, pulses eggs and fish. It tastes better too !

How do you lose weight without gaining muscle? What are some tips?

Your question is a little vague, but I'm guessing you would like to lose some fat and not gain muscle to appear bulky?Let me start by saying the most important way to lose fat is to control your calories. You want to burn more calories than you take in...and no, not all calories are the same. I prefer a low carb diet because it helps you lose fat relatively quickly without much in the way of hunger pangs and uncontrollable cravings. There are low carb diets (www.atkins.com), paleo diets (www.fastmuscleplans.com/Paleo), and ketogenic diets (www.ruled.me). All of these diets reduce your insulin levels (which promote the storage of fat and then cause hunger after it lowers your blood sugar). As far as muscles go, you can tone them which will help you burn more calories on a daily basis. In general, there's two ways to burn calories through exercise. One is through burning calories during exercise (cardio) and the other is due to higher calories burned due to having more muscles to feed (resistance training). I know you said you don't want to gain muscle, but hear me out. It is really hard to gain muscle! I see people at the gym everyday who look like they did last week, and last month, and last year...and they have not gained a ton of muscle...even lifting some really heavy weights. Exercise helps tighten and tone your muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It makes it easier for you to move around and do things without injury. I found a free bodyweight exercise routine at www.fastmuscleplans.com. It's a 20 minute routine that works your entire body. You get both cardio and muscle toning in a single workout. If that is no your cup of tea, start with walking after dinner. Studies show a light walk after dinner (any meal, actually) can help with weight loss. Essentially, do something you like that gets you moving.Hope this helps!
