Losing Weight But Not Inches

Why am I losing weight but not inches?

How noticeable weight loss is through measurement or just observation has more to do with the distribution of the loss over the body than it does with the amount of weight. You could easily notice a 20 pound loss if it was, for example, all in the abdomen. However, if it was spread over your body from the elbows to the knees, you would likely not notice it.

You probably have many more pounds to lose because fat is generally builds from the waistline up and down the body covering everything from internal organs to marbling in your muscles (intramuscular) to subcutaneous deposits (under the skin). Because fat loss begins receding from the outer reaches of the body and finishes around the waistline the first 20 pounds may not be noticeable but the last 20 pounds, which will come from a much smaller area around the waist, will be.

When people lose fat they may notice the loss in many way from finding hard surfaces increasingly uncomfortable to sit on to a sloshing around in their abdomens if the fat has increased the volume of the peritoneum. They may feel bony places they hadn't noticed before including ribs or the coccyx (tail bone), etc. But, certainly they will eventually notice clothes are loosening, their mirror reflection is slimming, and, best of all, their friends are paying them compliments about their new svelt appearance.

Good luck and good health!!

I'm losing weight but not inches or fat!?

I'm 17 and have been dieting and exercising for the past 4 weeks. I've moved from 95 kg (209 lb) to 87 kg (194 lb). I'm 6"1 and have restricted my daily calorie intake and do aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week with a little resistance training daily before bed and after my exercise.
The scale says I'm losing weight but I still look very fat and the same!! Please don't tell me I'm gaining muscle because I have been doing very LITTLE strength training.
How long does it usually take for the weight/fat loss to show!!!

Losing Inches but not weight on scale?

It's normal. It's because you're losing fat and replacing it with muscle, which weighs more than fat. If you want to lose weight try doing mostly cardio, running, swimming, jump rope is great, aerobics... Also don't use weights to work out, use your own body weight. This way you'll tone your muscles and you'll lose weight. Also adjust your eating habits. Eat really clean, and often. Eat something very small every 2 hours to keep your metabolism high. And by eat I mean bowl of cereal for breakfast with small glass of orange juice. Two hours later a nonfat cup of yogurt with granola (a small one). For lunch eat an 6-8 oz chicken breast with a small salad and water. Or a fish fillet of similar size. Then two hours later have a hand full of mixed nuts or a granola bar. Eat dinner early, like 6. And make it a similar meal to lunch. You can also have a small sandwich for either of these meals. Then before bed have some milk and cookies. Like 3 cookies and a small glass of skim milk. It's all about portion control and what you put in your body. So stick to organic stuff. Not eating will cause your metabolism to slow down and your body will start to store fat. But eating often will speed up your metabolism and you'll have lots of energy to fuel your work outs. So don't think not eating will make you lose weight. The hardest part of losing weight will be preparing your food so don't let your self get lazy and eat McDonald's... Ever ever ever. And stay motivated and be patient. There is no quick fix, but if you keep it up by this summer you will look super sexyyyyyy... One more thing, eat lots of fibrous foods, high fiber bread, lots of greens, lentil soup once a day is the best, etc... This will make you poop (sorry about the grossness). And that will make your stomach clear it's self more often and you won't be clogged up and you'll actually be lighter when you step on the scale. Good luck ! And be proud of your self!!! You've taken the first step to changing your entire life for the better!!!

Why do you lose inches but not weight?

During weight loss, it is not uncommon to be losing inches not weight. Some people fear that if they are not seeing a reduction of pounds on the scale, then weight loss is not happening. In all actuality, it’s quite the opposite. While you may not be seeing a decrease in pounds, you are likely seeing an increase in muscle, leading to a decrease in overall inches.Muscle vs. FatThe key here is to understand the difference in muscle and fat. Because a pound is a pound no matter what you are measuring, one pound of fat is equal to one pound of fat. The common saying, “muscle weighs more than fat, ” is wrong. A pound is a pound, no matter what you measure. However, fat and muscle are composed of different substances, look different, have differing effects on the body and take up varying amounts of space in the body. Fat takes up more space in the body and has a lumpy appearance. Muscle, on the other hand, is lean and smooth. For visual purposes, picture a lean steak equal to the size of a regulation sized baseball. Now, picture approximately three times that much jello in a bowl. If these ingredients were placed in your body, would you prefer the lean, compact muscle or the jiggling bowl of jello? A person weighing 150 pounds, with 14% body fat will look much leaner than a person who weighs 120 pounds with 35% body fat.Losing Inches Instead of WeightNow that you understand the different characteristics of fat and muscle, you are probably likely to reconsider your weight loss goals. Losing inches doesn’t seem so shabby when it’s put into perspective. The most common culprit for a loss of inches rather than a loss of pounds is that of muscle development. When fat is burned and muscle is replaced, your body may stay the exact same weight. However, you have replaced lumpy, jiggly and unhealthy amounts of fat with lean, solid muscle. An equal amount of muscle will take up approximately half as much space as the same amount of fat.5 Surprising Habits that Accelerate Fat Loss
