What do we need to do to get Netflix, Hulu, or Lovefilm in the Netherlands?

Recent developments are that Netflix has expanded to Ireland, UK, South America, and is working on expanding to Spain and Portugal and Scandinavia. Similar services are available in Germany. There have been jobs posted in search for other new languages(incl Dutch).. However, why hasnt a similar service been launched in the Netherlands.Primarily, I think it has to do with the population. Although we are relatively progressive in terms of internet connection/head and digital television connections, we are only 1/5th of the population size compared to Germany. So, the Dutch market size is unattractive. Secondly, deals with movie producers have to be established per market and (I believe) per 'window'. So, Netflix should make deals for one movie in all markets that they want to bring that movie available. Next, the movie producers want to maximize their profits, so milking each 'window'.. (a window is the availability of a movie in e.g. the cinema for x months, DVD rental for x months, DVD sale for x month) and currently they are kind of shifting as Video On Demand is growing.. however, that is still a significant small market. So, the market is still unattractive for these companies and they have to put a lot of effort in bringing all the movies to all those markets. What I don't understand is that the piracy of movies has significantly dropped by the introduction of Netflix movie steams in the US (sandvile measerument) - according to the bandwith of torrents and Netflix. But then again, perhaps they don't worry about the Dutch piracy that much either ;-)

What is the future of TV if Netflix/Lovefilm can't pay for decent content for its UK customers?

For me as a consumer, limited.I've had free trials of both and after an initial frenzy I've dropped Netflix and we are only keeping LoveFilm going for the Peppa Pig episodes and the DVD rental. With the quality of ad free content we get on the BBC, the availability of iPlayer (4OD etc) and the wide variety of channels now available on FreeSat (with a PVR), the limited content of Netflix and LoveFilm is not really worth the price of a subscription to me.

Whats better netflix or lovefilm?

ive used netflix free month, but debating whether to use love film, its a little bit cheaper, has streaming and it has newer movies, what are your opinions? netflix or love-film, im a bit disappointed with netflix choices and im not bothered about the tv programmes, i just think love-film looks better?

If a DVD gets wet will it still work?

It should still work as long as the picture on the top isnt messed up

Any one know how to temporarily suspend DVD shipments with Netflix?

Just hold onto the DVDs you currently have until you get back. That's what I did when I changed addresses. Otherwise, I don't think you can stop DVD shipments without closing your account.

Can you buy classic F1 seasons or races on DVD?

I know you can buy old seasons on VHS, but I don't know about DVDs.
You can find some on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Formula-Grand-Prix-Review-1991/dp/B00004CLUM/ref=pd_sim_v_h__2 . They should sell some in merchandise shops on some race circuits as well.

Heres the site of the company that makes the end of season reviews:

Whats the best place to rent dvds and games?

I use Tesco DVD Rental (powered by Love Film.com)

Depending on the package you choose, you can either have 1, 2 or 3 discs at each time. They post the discs out to you first class and you simply pop them back in the post when you're finished. You can rent DVDs, Games and even Blu-ray discs. You can create a list of all discs you want and maek the priority to High, Medium or Low, then they post the discs out to you from your list. There are no late return charges. In my opinion, value for money.

Sorry my PC is playing up so I cant paste the direct link, but go www.tesco.com and click on "DVD Rental"

Hope this helped!

Would you pay to store your DVD collection in a warehouse and stream to your devices?

If I had not already digitized 90% or better of my DVD collection and imported it into iTunes, I would consider this option. Once DVDs (which I rarely buy anymore) or CDs (which I never buy anymore) are in my house, they get Handbraked to mp4 and stored. I really don't have any use for them, except as a backup. I think this still might be a good idea for a service, but the market would be people who don't know how to convert and store their own stuff. And that's actually more people than you might imagine. When I tell people--not geeks, just regular people--that I watch all my movies via Apple TV, they're often surprised to learn that you can convert existing DVDs and stream them via WiFi They associate Apple TV with movie rental. I only take advantage of that feature on rare occasions. I mostly use Apple TV for streaming Netflix and for streaming my own iTunes hosted media. That said, I'm limited to WiFi. If I want to watch one of my movies when I'm not home, I'd have to copy it to an iPhone or iPad and take it with me. So the idea of having my own personal Netflix-type service for streaming my own media has some appeal. Because there are often things I would like to stream on Netflix that aren't available.

Do you get the same audio quality on downloadable movies as you do from a Blu-ray disc?

Bryan Whellams on an avi you're way more likely to have compressed audio whereas on a DVD it's better than CD quality43 minutes ago · LikeTim Aldiss So downloading from Lovefilm will never have as good sound or picture as a DVD would? Even with a nice fat pipe?32 minutes ago · LikeBryan Whellams highly unlikely, but the bigger the file the better the sound quality is likely to be. a DVD is about 4.4Gb and AVI rips are anything between 700Mb and 2Gb - you're likely to get 320kbps mp3 quality or wav if you're lucky on a bigger file.11 minutes ago · LikeBryan Whellams so in other words not quite ;)10 minutes ago · LikeTim Aldiss Nice one Brian. So all my past efforts to try and buy lossless home cinema kit would be wasted on anything other than disc. I'm happy in that knowledge :)about a minute ago · Like
