Lower Back Pain Left Side

Pain in lower back and left side of my pelvis?

I'm 9 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby (I got a sono done and everything looks great) but I have the really aching pain in my lower back that follows into the left side of me pelvis and intermittently makes my left leg feel like it's going numb. It's not an ectopic pregnancy because the doctor would have realized it by now.

Lower back pain on left side?

Hi,

I am a physical therapist. Back can is very common and can be caused by a variety of issues. Back pain aggravated with sitting, bending, and lifting is generally related to a disc. Back pain aggravated with standing and walking can be facet joint, DDD, or stenosis.

Some simple things you can do to help relieve your back pain include: ice your back (10 min) - don't use heat!, avoid aggravating activities, and watch your posture. If sympotms continue you can see a doctor, generally an orthopedic doctor that specializes in the spine.

Lower back pain on my right side?

Check here a very effective Sciatica Natural Treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Lower Back Pain left side?

If nothing shows up on tests then it's caused by tight muscles that are getting enough pressure on them to be pinched at those times. Tight muscles don't show up on scans or tests. When one of the muscles gets enough pressure on it it's the same as having a cramp for the amount of pain you can have. To get rid of the pains you have to free up your back muscles to release the tight muscles that are getting pinched and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do while sitting)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Hunching over will do it - get into a hot shower, bend over gently and try and touch your nose to your knees. It's fine if you don't make it all the way, you just want to stretch your back. When you get out, put an ice pack on the part of your back that hurt, and take an over the counter NSAIDs if you can, such as Motrin. If you can get someone to help you put some BenGay on it, that'll help a lot, too.

What is the cause of lower back/hip pain on side? (see picture)

The most obvious answer is that the pain is coming from the sacro-iliac joint. What is not so obvious is what structures of this joint are actually causing the pain or what can be referring pain to this area of your back, and why.All of the answers given so far on this forum are correct with the amount of information we have to go on, so with that in mind, let's look at the most common cause of pain in this region. Most people tend to stand on their right leg and most drivers tend to sit more on their right buttock while driving, meaning that they don't completely situate themselves levelly after entering the vehicle. Over time this causes the stronger muscles of the right pelvis and leg, namely the gluteus group, TFL, and piriformis, to become stronger which shoves the lower pelvis to the left causing a drop of the iliac crest on the right. The lower right side of the pelvis or ischium will rotate anteriorly and the PSIS and crest of the ilium will rotate posteriorly. This opens the lower SI joint inferiorly and closes it antero-superiorly. Now that the pelvis is unlevel the stronger muscles on the right side will begin to spasm which causes a seemingly blocked or fixated SI joint. The nerve endings in the muscular attachments, and within the joint become physically stimulated causing pain. Due to the lack of motion of the joints, fluid begins to accumulate around it releasing histamine which further stimulates the pain receptors in the surrounding tissues causing more pain.If that isn't the least of your troubles, now the ilio-psoas muscle is being stretched and results in spasm which rotates the lumbar spine even further causing the erector spinae muscles over the right facet joint of L5/S1 to spasm which has the same effect on this joint as the pelvic muscles had on the SI joint. This will also refer pain to the same region. Biomechanically this is what is happening. My guess is that you want to know what to do about it. First, get a proper examination to rule out any more potentially serious underlying causes (metastasis, infection, aneurysm, etc). If you are deemed to be otherwise healthy, then begin stretches of the above-mentioned muscle groups along with trigger-point/pressure point massage. It may be difficult to reach these muscles so you may need to incorporate the help of a trained professional (chiropractor/physical therapist/licensed medical massage therapist) to get you through.

Pain in middle left side of back, what could be the cause?

Failure to visit a doctor (yet). Does that sound ridiculous? Let's explain cause, from an illness perspective.  Let's suppose you do A, and it causes you to do B, and then you do C and that causes D, and then you do E and you get a pain, or some symptoms.  What is the cause? Ultimately, the cause is the one that gives results when you treat it.  The better the results, the more accurate your identification of the cause.  If you spend a lot of time trying to figure it out yourself, you might try to fix A, B, C, D - or something else... If you go to a doctor, the doctor might identify A, B, C, D - or something else. Your doctor has more experience than you, and more training.  And your doctor can do something I can't do.  He can hear you, ask you questions, and even touch you or send you for specific lab tests. to your health, tracy

Very painful pinching pain in lower back on left side just above buttocks..HELP!!!!?

Having had my share of back problems, I fell out of a care when I was three and hit by one when I was seven, I know how bad they can be and how little others seem to know about them at that point. I was going to the chiriopractor 2 times minimum a month for treatment. That all stopped last Dec. when I used the muscle relaxing techniques I found. They release the muscles where the pain comes from because they are being pinched. Once the muscles were released the pain was gone and no need for the chiropractor anymore. Here are the two exercises I used for my back. The one for your lower back you can do all the way to the tip of the tailbone and find relief. Also is included one for your lower leg muscle and tendon which must be what is giving you trouble there. Here they are:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg or even over it if you can, the more over the better it is. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
For lower back, on the buttocks:
Put both hands behind your back and place them on the muscles alongside your spine and press on them and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. When the release starts to happen, slowly lower yourself forward as far as you can go. Then release the pressure but hold your body there for one minute longer.
foot:
With that foot in your lap, take both your hands and place them on the back of the tendon about one inch apart at ankle level. Press the tendon hard between your fingers and thumbs and hold that pressure there. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds slowly raise the front of your foot as far as it will go. Then remove the pressure but hold your foot there for one minute longer.
