Do you like to write a review about Swordbird and Sword Quest?

Swordbird is a New York Times bestseller written by a 12-year-old author Nancy Yi Fan.

Here are some:

It’s hard to believe but the author was only 12 years old when she wrote this thrilling, beautifully crafted fantasy about evil Lord Turnatt, a hawk who has enslaved birds to build a fortress and has set the cardinals and bluejays to fighting each other.

She creates vivid characters with wonderful names (Flameback the cardinal, Dilby the loon) and other cool words like “nobird”, “somebird,” and “everybird.” There’s a hummingbird circus, birds dining on raspberry pie and fending off invaders with scalding bean soup. Best of all each chapter starts with a quotation from some book of bird lore, including the Book of Heresy which promises the terrible Turnatt eternal life - if he eats the egg of one woodbird every day.

Nancy Yi Fan is a talent to watch!

- Jean Westmoore, The Buffalo News

I read Swordbird last weekend and was amazed. It’s an extraordinary work, and would be an accomplishment for an adult author. That the writer was so young really makes this work remarkable. The bird characters, the juxtaposition of the Book of Heresy and Old Scripture sayings, and the almost allegorical tone give it a solid fantasy feel. In short, I loved it, and I think kids
will really enjoy it, both as a great story and as a phenomenal work by one of their peers.

We’ll be adding the book to the reading program and including it in our book fair offerings!

Congrats!

How can I get fixed games and I bet them?

Good Question. You need to have someone on the inside passing information to you, you have to become essentially a part of the circle of match fixers to have that information. There is no way that you will randomly fall into such information, with no strings attached. Some tennis players have in the past commented on themselves or other players injuries etc. Which isn’t exactly match fixing but still illegal inside info if you profit from it. Full on match fixing involves getting in with real shady people, that have powerful connections, and are able to influence really significant people, like players and referees. The consequences are serious, so this type of info won’t be bandied about willy nilly. Best suggestion, hook up with the Russian Mob and see if they let you in on the action.

How long is an average hockey game?

Time for the actual game is 60 minutes, as others have said at length. In the NHL, there are two intermissions of 17 minutes each between regulation periods. But there are also three TV timeouts per period, as well: those are about two and a half minutes each, and happen (roughly) at the six, 10, and 14 minute marks. If you're at the arena, you'll see a red light near the penalty boxes come on to signal a TV timeout. There are other times when the clock can stop: offsides, icing, goalie stoppages, penalty assessments, sometimes a goal under review. But for a regulation result, two and a half hours is typical. For overtimes in a REGULAR SEASON game, you're looking at two and a half to three hours. If the score remains tied through regulation and a 5-minute 3-on-3 overtime, the game proceeds to a shootout. Even if the shootout ends up going into sudden death, three hours total would be a reasonable top end guess. There have been a few really long shootouts, but if you're in the building for one of those, you’ll be so strung out on adrenaline that you probably won't mind the extra time. Well, unless you're at a Capitals home game and the DC Metro shuts down before it's over, but that's another story. The playoffs are an altogether different animal. Regulation time plays the same way: 3 periods of 20 minutes, three TV timeouts per period, 17-minute intermission between periods. But if it goes to overtime, that's when the fun REALLY starts. Overtime intermissions are 15 minutes, overtime periods are a full 20 minutes, and there are no TV timeouts. If an overtime period gets beyond ten minutes, the crew will give the ice a brief dry scrape, but that's it. The idea in the playoffs is to keep on playing until somebody finally scores, no matter how long that takes. So for the playoffs, it's either going to be about two and a half hours for a regulation result, or indefinite if sixty minutes aren't enough.Longest playoff game in the expansion era was in 2000, when the Philadelphia Flyers needed FIVE OVERTIMES to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Easter Epic between the Islanders and Capitals started at 7:30 PM, and ended at 1:58 AM. Those are extreme examples, to be sure. But if you go to a playoff game, understand that you might be there for a WHILE. And you'll probably be on the edge of your seat and loving every minute of it, too.
