What did Nietzsche mean when he said "if you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you"?
The title of the book is “Beyond Good and Evil” and I’m noticing a lot of “evil” coming up in the answers. (I just feel like that’d be taking the words much too literally)"He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster.And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."Nietzsche was a nihilist, meaning the he believed in the meaninglessness of life, the world, and he rejected moral standards.I think he means that if one is faced with the illusion of truth (or the illusion of the existence of the moral truth; that is, the ugly monster) and is fighting it, sooner or later, he would find himself complying with the supposed “truth” because there isn’t a monster to fight in the first place.In contrast, if one is faced with nothingness (a world with no god, no moral truth, nothing), he or she will start believing the somethingness out of the nothingness. The presence of nothing would seem to be looking back at you (see how I said presence when it should be the lack of presence of even the “nothing”) and the nothing has become a something to you.To put it in easier terms, (we should establish, at least for now, that the world does not contain an ultimate truth) to fill up our void from the lack of “truth,” we’ve started to establish religion and set up moral standards, to strive for a further truth, when in fact, there isn’t a truth or a higher being that looks after us. The void from the nothingness started to feel like something and we’ve established something out of nothing.But again, this is only my interpretation and what would I know? I’m just a highschooler.

In general men don't get titles by marrying women. If you marry a princess you are not a prince. If you marry a sovereign queen you are not entitled to get a title, but one is given anyway. There is no male equivalent of the word "dowager".
Is it child abuse if you get "spanked" with a paddle?
My dad got an all wooden paddle around last year. and ow almost every time i get in trouble i get paddled. Sometimes i have bruises and my butt gets swollen. I don't want to live with y dad period anymore and i already have a different place where i can stay but he won't let me live any where else but with him. he doesn't know about my plans to live with my best friend i talked to her mom about all the drama that's been going n at home and she wants me to come and stay with them. I'm really tired of being hit with the paddle and i know i should stop getting in trouble and it won't happen but we live with my stepmom and her daughter and my step sister and i both believe that she sets me up to get me in trouble.. so i rally need to know if hiting your kid with a wooden paddle is considered child abuse so that i can call child protective service and get out of this situation. and please only put what you KNOW not what you think because i need to know for sure. thank you and lease help.

She doesn’t have any more rights than someone on the street to draw blood, nor to kick you. My husband endured horrible abuse from his ex-girlfriend. It got worse and worse. The amount of blood she drew added up quickly, and the extent of damage became more life threatening, eventually she would beat him so badly he couldn’t see, and hit him across the back of the head with a metal softball bat.Please, get out now before she does irreversible damage. There is help out there for you. If you need to talk to someone I can get you names and numbers. Do not take this abusive behavior from her any longer, the next time may be the last time, she very well may kill you.
37 year old bipolar son, very resistant to bipolar meds, what bipolar med carries least side effects?
My son is on state aid living in a small trailer provided by the mental health care agency, but hates it, calls me many times a day in a deliousal state, will not let me talk to professional they in turn will not talk to me either, don't know where else to turn. My husband has a heart condition and this is very troubling. We had not heard from my son for 8 months and of course were upset. We want to be in contact with him, but do not know how to answer him when he talks in a diliousal state. I try to discuss him taking meds and listening to professionals but too no avail..Has been living like this for years off and on. Was successful when he was on zypexa. Takes depakote but will not take albilify. Any suggestions on what to say when he is in that state of mind.

Wow, C man you did not even read the question. Yeah I think a Mormon wrote this, when you look at the about us section it does say that a guy named Keith served a mission. In my opinion, I think that this guy has some great arguments for evidence of Jesus Christ's visit there. But I dont know how true it is. I looked up some things about the area and I didnt see much that supported the claims on the website that you are referring to. I am sure that if a person were to take this tour they would see all of these great things and how it might refer to something that proves the truth of the Book of Mormon.
