Masters Or Graduation Level Certificate After O-level

What is a post-masters graduate certificate?

The post-masters graduate certificate is a degree level that is intermediate between the masters degree and the doctorate. It became popular in education careers where promotions or job grades depended in part on educational level. They recognized this "sixth year" degree level as one year of study beyond the master's degree. You also sometimes see it referred to as a "specialist's" degree because some of the early post-masters degrees were Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degrees. Other common names are Certificate of Advanced Study or Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study.

The utility of the post-masters certificate depends on what field you are in and why you want the degree. Some fields of study have the specialist level as the entering level for certification or licensure (school psychology, for example), in which case you would find it vital. Some fields (counseling, for example) might have the level of training required for licensure at the equivalent of the post-masters certificate level (60 semester hours) in which case having the certificate would be an advantage if you want to get licensed. Some fields allow you to specialize after taking a post masters certificate (i.e. Infant Mental Health Nursing) in which case the certificate is very useful. On the other hand, some fields really require a doctorate (most college teaching, for example) in which case the post-masters certificate, while good to have, won't fulfil the occupational requirement.

I think the post-masters certificate is nice if you are working toward continuing education as it can help you make a more systematic study in your area of interest, and it appears that you have met a more unified goal than just taking courses.

Hope this helps.

Does a graduate certificate mean anything?

If the certificate involves a special topic/skill/focus in accountancy that will bring added value to your marketability, it can't hurt. If it is just a general certification that will be redundant to what you are studying, then save your time and money.

Many certificate programs are designed to satisfy continuing education requirements for professionals who need to maintain licenses to practice.

Hmm...just thought of this...maybe the certificate itself won't help, but the class room contacts could help your job seach by increasing your network?? That might be worth an investment of $125.

Graduate Certificate vs. Masters Degree?

There is a big difference. For one, I believe you have to have a Masters first to get a certificate. The certificate is the graduate level equivalent of a minor. For instance, Master's in Education with a teaching certificate in elementary education. Choose a Master's that complements your undergraduate degree or increases your marketability. I suggest in this job market avoiding the arts altogether unless you already have a math, science, or engineering degree (particularly in the areas of chemistry, or computer science). Often it needs to be demonstrated that you can write or have people skills. Also the MBA is way overdone. Avoid it.

In essence, if you choose the arts route, it is like having a Mercedes Benz, but using it as a boat. You sink before you can use it. Then again, if you have money to throw away and just want to gain knowledge, then go for whatever you want. It would be a great experience.

Edit: The MBA, everyone will tell you otherwise. They will tell you that it is great and will make you a lot of money, but it is bologna. I suggest going to the Dept. of Labor Statistics and look at the stats on jobs with those with those degrees and look at the projection. The advent of community college and work while going to school colleges becoming popular has made this area highly saturated. While not many people have a masters most employers could give a s#$# about you having one, so why get one that most have already?

Which is better GIS certificate or GIS online masters degree?

I have already got a B.S. in Geology and I would really prefer not to have to get another bachelors degree since in my state none of the state school are allowing second bachelors students in right now. Which would help me get employed in the GIS Profession? Is there a better alternative which I do not know about? Is the online masters degree from USC in GIS worth while to get? WOuld it be better to get the certificate first then apply to grad school?

I have taken two GIS related classes before including a undergraduate introduction class and a graduate Level remote sensing class.

Are post-baccalaueate certificates looked on same level as bachelors?

Hello, Ive been researching the EXACT same programs, for a Computer Science certificate. Im seeking computer science education with emphasis in java. Graduating....Philosophy major...future JD student (after this year of additional education).

We're in the same boat essentially. In my opinion, an ACCREDITED program will hold much more merit than unaccredited. Im almost positive Arcadia and Marymount are not ABET accredited for CS.

Both these schools seem relatively inexpensive, and both offer a one year intensive course for certification. Both in good locations. However I am not sure how much merit this certificate would hold from these smaller schools. TUFTS and BRANDEIS (which im applying to like this very moment) seem more prestigious; tufts is definitely ABET accredited for. They offer similar programs, but are much more expensive (without aid of course).

You definitely wouldnt be LAUGHED at lol. Youre getting a certificate which (i think) is the functional equivalent of a bachelors--postbac is undergrad credit if im not mistaken. Theres alotta disclaimers because I JUST embarked on this endeavor last night (all night though).

In conclusion, I think this is a tremendous opportunity for us essential yet "impractical" philosophy and psychology (philosophy > psych of course) students to get official, professional certification in a technical field.

Also, many schools offer this as the prereq for admission to their masters program.

PROS:
- functional equivalent of Bachelor degree (major or minor) in CS
- Its only ONE FREAKING YEAR
- its essentially 'job training' for IT
-will prepare you for Masters program

CONS:
- Arcadia, Marymount arent prestigious (i dont even thin marymount requires recommendations, which is excellent) OR accredited

final disclaimer: this is my first ever random, anonymous internet forum post. Im sure of most of the facts. its just odd that a day after i decided to do this, someone else is too, at the same schools none the less. Good luck

How can I start my university education right after O'Levels?

As ever, the Quora question is without context, which I find a continuing disappointment and a disincentive to respond. Sucker that i am, i will attempt to reason with the question.O levels were a British test until replaced by GCSEs. That suggests that the questioner is British and left education before GCSEs were introduced. Further, to ask this question at all, the questioner has no O levels, so left school at 16.If those deductions are valid, then we’re answering to an older British individual looking to undertake some university study. In which case we might assume this is a Brit wanting to stay in Britain. So go have a look at the Open University and see what you might be eligible for. It remains likely that you’d need an A-level somewhere in advance of starting, but that is not necessarily so.Next, ‘university education’ could be education at university or it could be simply doing university level stuff. There is nothing stopping you from doing study at any level on your own. Quite a few of the better schools in Britain provide what turns out to be university level content while in the Sixth Form.Last from me, and agreeing with an earlier respondent, if you switch countries after O level or its equivalent, then the situation can change strongly in your favour. Age tends to be a lifting factor - at 16 it is hard for a university to accept a student, however wonderful. For some universities, whatever equates to O level exceeds ‘graduation’ from high school, just as a collection of A-levels goes way past that. However, it remains probable that, whatever it is that you want to study at university, some study between the O-level equivalent and the undergraduate targeted course is a sensible action. Breadth before depth.

What is the difference between a master's certificate and a master's degree?

A certificate is just that, not a degree. The certificate shows completion of an academic program, and the master's certificate shows that the work is above undergraduate level. A master's degree is more rigorous and has to meet certain requirements for the school's accreditation. A Master's certificate program is usually about 1/2 to 1/3 the length of a degree program.

Any education beyond undergraduate is helpful, so a Master's certificate might help you specialize in a certain area (i.e. Management or Information Assurance) without the length of a full degree program.

What is the difference between undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate.?

Associative degrees are usually 2-year degrees.
Undergrad are the typical, 4-year degrees after high school.
Graduate and post graduate are the Master's and Ph.D. level that come after a college undergrad level.

Is it worth doing a Graduate diploma in New Zealand level 7 for an Indian student?

Firstly, do a research on the Institution of your choice because the education industry in NZ has dramatically grown. University colleges deliver quality education and it is worth in NZ as well as internationally. If you cannot afford to have University education, go for Government funded education providers (Category 1 educational providers recognized by NZQA). If you are unlucky though, be wise when choosing a Private Training Establishments known as “PTE” as your last option. PTE’s are private polytechnics offering practical learning that leads to employment rights post study as what your Agents often interpret and recommend. If you do not do a research or have questions for your Agents about your learning outcome and future career opportunities, they would simply get you an Offer of place at any of these PTE’s because they are PTE agents.Life in NZ: Most of the migrants end up taking over odd jobs right from the start of their study and even during post study work permit. I can confidently say that 95% of students are performing hospitality jobs which are of mainly commercial cleaning, stacking and packing in supermarkets, old age cares, labor at construction sites etc. No matter how well experienced you are in your profession, but your valuable experiences from the overseas do not add value to your job applications. A lot of agents paint a rosy picture about study permit, express entry and the land of infinite fortunes. Little do they disclose about the fact that your international experience and education is not enough to secure a job. Once we try and get a NZ credential and start applying for jobs, there comes a statement - no NZ experience!!!There are many people like me who came to NZ either on study or as immigrants with a hope for a better lifestyle. Almost all are frustrated to the fact that what next!!!While NZ is a great place to live, the economy is predominantly dependent on Tourism and Dairy industries but has scarcity of potential job opportunities. If you are an aspiring student or immigrant and still ready to face challenges, you are most welcome. NZ is one of the beautiful and safest place to live your life.
