Me And My Dog Were Attacked By Another Dog. Help

What can you do if your dog is being attacked by another dog?

My dog was attacked and killed by another dog. She was 13 years old and gentle as a lamb. When it happened, I was totally shocked. Didn't know what to do. I had another smaller dog with me also. The owner came and grabbed his dog, and I cursed him up one side and down the other. My dog died of a stroke a couple days later from the head injuries. I was traumatized for years after that, but continued to walk my two remaining dogs. We encountered many loose dogs. Pepper spray, even bear spray, doesn't always work. For whatever reason, some dogs don't seem to be bothered by it! Bizarre. What I found worked, was to yell “NO! NO! NO!” in the loudest, lowest pitched voice repeatedly. Also, as previously mentioned, place your dog behind you out of reach of the charging dog. Most dogs know what “No” means, and most dogs won't tangle with a human. I now carry protection, but wouldn't use it unless the attack is serious enough to warrant taking the other dog’s life. And yes it entirely the owners fault. Sadly, these owners have very low intelligence and bungle through life like a bull in a china closet.

My Dog attacked another dog and I feel terrible?

Thanks for your help and yes, Monty is a lovely dog and is actually very socialized and isn't aggressive in nature only if he has been provoked. He has been going for fog school for quite a few months now and he's been top of his class many weeks in a row (he just recently was upgraded to adult dog classes).

As for Finnigan. How dare you? Say what you want about me, what you say isn't true but if you ******* call my dog a 'beast' and that he is poorly trained and not socialized then you just just shut the **** up. You clearly know nothing about Monty and we pay 160 euros a month for his dog training which is a HIGHLY REGARDED SCHOOL WHERE HE HAS BEEN TOP OF THE CLASS FOR 3-4 WEEKS IN A ROW. You clearly know nothing, and if you talk like that to someone on the street then you'll get a slap. As for the fact you'd hit me? Go ahead. Hit a minor. See what happens with the law. I was protecting my still a pup dog from an adult who provoked him. And I am able to s

What do you do when your dog attacks another dog?

Get the little bugger off the other dog ASAP.Near my house there used to live this horrible little chow chow thing that absolutely detested my dog for no apparent reason. It lived near the entrance to our estate so we always had to walk past it.One day...the other had left his door open. It came running out and jumped on my dog and they began fighting. I was in shock at the whole thing and tried to pull my dog away, which really disadvantaged her in the fight. The owner of the evil dog came running out and started hitting his dog to try and get it to release my dog who it now had a hold of.We separated them with no serious damage. My dogs collar had protected her.A week later though and I'm walking past the house (alone) and I see the guy and his dog....his arm is in a cast. Apparently he dislocated it trying to stop the fight. That's all there is to it really. Had his dog done serious damage to mine and he done nothing. ...there would have been hell on. He'd be firmly persona non grata in the estate (my parents have lived there far longer than he).

Dog is shaking after being attacked by another dog.?

I am watching my friend's little dog for her while she's away on vacation. Her dog was attacked by my roommate's dog over a bone and the dog started bleeding from a point in his face. We cleaned up the wound and used syptic powder so that the bleeding would stop. The dog won't stop shaking though and has a completely different attitude and seems depressed. Sometimes when I pick it up it makes a little sound like it's hurt, but nothing as loud as a yelp. I'm sure taking it to the vet is the right answer, but it's not even my dog to begin with and I can't really afford a visit to the vet and I don't think my friend could either. It just happened earlier today, so I was gonna see if the dog seemed any better in the morning, but I honestly don't know what to do. Or how long I should wait before a visit to the vet is absolutely necessary.

My dog attacked another dog, should I put her to sleep?

I feel very bad this was all my fault. I got her out of her kennel without the leash to bring her in the house to eat. She seen another dog and ran across the street and attacked him. She is a lab. she attacked a pug. I got a few bites on my finger from getting in the middle of it, and a broken finger. This was with the neighbor dog. I have told them many times how sorry I am, they said it was ok. I am very lucky for that. I am not sure what dog bit me, but that really doesn't matter now. Their dog has 2 bite marks on his head. I have 2 kids, she very protective of us. I just know how bad it was of her to attack another dog.

Will my dog protect me if I am being attacked by another dog?

I’ve had dogs I was sure would defend me, and some that I think would have run the other way.The Cocker Spaniels I think would have given in, although once Cindy let the meter reader in the basement to read the meter but wouldn’t let him out. And barked her head off when some kids got in the back yard one night, chased them down the street where they separated. Cindy picked one out, and he ended up having a large hole in his pants where the seat should have been. The mutts were a mixed bag. Feather wasn’t particularly brave, but Nicholas would have died for me. He was the stray who bonded with me from aross the street. The Dachshunds, however, believe they are large dogs in disguise. The standards would have attacked anything that even looked menacing. The tweenies were somewhat less confident but I’m sure they would have tried. My current two, no way. One Dachshund rescue is now 13 years old and starting to show his age. The Chiweenie is about 11 pounds, and probably 8 or 9, would try but would be less than useless. No, wait, she’d bark up a storm to let anyone within hearing distance know that something was wrong. My friend’s Doberman Lexie would have protected me to her dying breath. She was a sweetheart who talked to me on the phone. No, listen. I’d often call my friend and leave a message on her answering machine. This was the kind where the message was broadcast as well as recorded. I’d tell Lexie who I was (Her Antie M) and to tell her mom to call me when she got home. When they moved out of town, she knew my voice and responded. One day, my friend put the receiver to Lexie’s ear and when she heard my voice, she looked out the window where I’d parked my car when I was visiting, and listened intently. Truth.

My dog attacked another dog. Will she be put down?

Every State and city has different laws and what leads to a dog being put down. But if I were to guess, I don't think a one time incident is going to lead your dog to being put down. On the other hand, how badly was she hurt? If there was a vicious attack (not saying your dog did that) then that is a different story.

What would you do if your dog attacked and almost killed another dog?

It is sad, but the only thing to do, that you really must do, is to put your dog down. Sorry, but you have an ethical responsibility in this situation. If you cannot guarantee that your dog will NEVER be in a position to cause that sort of harm ever again, you must euthanize the poor animal. If your dog ever got away again, and attacked another dog, and a five year old child was by that dog walking with his patents, and in your dog's excited and dangerous state of being that child was attacked and tragically killed (would only take one quick accidental slash from your dog's teeth), how would you feel? Would you consider yourself to blame for the harm your dog caused, especially since you knew already what your dog is capable of? You would feel terrible, I would think, and you would be right to feel terrible. Morally you would be responsible for that child's death. If I were a prosecutor and I knew that your dog had already nearly killed another dog, I would try you for negligent homicide. Any further harm your dog might cause is an act of criminal negligence on your part from here on out, not to mention a moral responsibility you alone (not the dog) must carry.

How do I get over the pain of watching my dog being attacked by another dog and losing his eye?

…By making sure your dog gets the best treatment and rehabilitation possible. He’ll forget about the eye quickly - our Lexie is totally blind and it doesn’t bother her one bit. What he may find harder is getting over the trauma - he may well fear other dogs. You need to work with him patiently if he should show fear or aggression (sometimes fear masquerades as aggression in dogs). He may well be afraid of particular dogs that resemble his attacker. Be kind to him, and look after him.I expect you’re blaming yourself. It’s very tough - our own dogs were attacked by our landlady’s dog and I blamed myself too. But often attacks are so sudden that anyone would struggle to prevent them. For the future, keep him close and monitor him well. You’re responsible for ensuring he’s not put in a situation where he may attack out of fear and end up in trouble. Try to learn dog body language, so you can tell if another dog is showing aggression. Dogs sometimes get attacked because they bounce happily up to another dog, so work hard on achieving a solid recall. Also, forgive yourself, and just love him. He needs to feel secure - a little bit of his safety was taken from him, so you need to work on giving him that back. It was a bad shock for you too, so you both need some time to heal.
