Me Be Needing More Moneys

How much money do I need for Miami vacation?

Going on a graduation trip with my best friend to Miami for 4 days, 3 nights. How much money do I need not including hotel + airfare? Like just to eat, go out, have a good time, do a little sight seeing and shopping. I don't want to go crazy but I don't want to be broke either.

What's a good, comfortable in-between amount? I was thinking $400 any thoughts??

Btw, we will be taking public transportation + cabs around South Beach.

Do you need money to have a girlfriend?

Great question.I had my first official girlfriend by the age of 16. I was a Junior in High School. At first we didn’t need anything. It was rainbows cute puppies and butterflies everywhere. A few months in as that phase dwindles down we realized we didn’t want to be inside all the time. Her mom loved me, I visited the apartment every morning on the way to school, and came back when her mom was home from work in the afternoon after school was over. That was great, but we wanted more time alone, and just to be with each other, do things and go places. If we went out, we needed bus or train fare. This was 2004 Brooklyn, New York. After travel fare, we gotta eat. It’s almost a must, unless you both mutually agree to go hungry. You want to go to movie, a restaurant? Can’t do the same thing every time, and in the initial stages as we got to know each other more we wanted to go out and do things as much as possible.Thankfully I was working at the time and it allowed us more freedom. Did I wish I had more money to do more things? Absolutely. In conclusion, no you don’t need money to have a girlfriend. But if you want a relationship that lasts a long time, you have to create memories, and that usually includes doing things you have to pay for. You don’t need money to be in love, you can do a million things that don’t cost a thing to show your appreciation and care, but ultimately, its not the money itself, but what the money allows.

Why do millionaires need to make more money?

I'm sure there about as as many reasons as there are millionaires. For me, it's more of a personal challenge: can I make more than last year for my company.I've never had a job that paid me a big salary (my W2 last year was once again for less than $1,000 … my CPA had me stop taking a paycheck about seven years ago because it was almost all going to taxes). My main income is now from my real estate investments. In my actual business, I like to see if I can make more, with less work, than what my friends are making in their daily jobs.I've had several days this week where I've made $3,000 to $7,000 and most of that was in an hour or less. I don't keep that money, I invest it into my company so it will continue to grow and support other members of my family….I still only make $2 a day, and my wife gets the same amount so we can be considered full time employees and keep our health insurance. My deals continue to get larger as well. I fully expect to net $30K on a deal that took about ten minutes worth of texting. That deal will take place later this week.I've made a quick $15,500 committing to buy and then quickly selling via text while I was out at dinner with my wife….she is a sweetheart, but she still didn't like that I was texting during my time with her.So, the short answer is: for the challenge….can I do better than I did last year. This was the seventh year of our newest company and our numbers were up between 40% and 54% in each category. So I set my goals much higher this year and fully expect to hit them all.

My co-founder/co-CEO seems to need more money than me. I’m tempted to give him a higher salary even though we are equal partners, but that doesn’t seem fair, nor is it the best way to spend company money. What can I do?

This is a tricky and sensitive question, and ultimately comes down to the relationship between the two of you. Realistically, this should have been figured out before you started, and anyone walking away from a $300K income to co-found a startup should have had a very, very clear understanding of what jumping into the startup fire would mean. But that's water under the bridge. At this point, the two of you need to negotiate out a working relationship moving forward, and that depends to a large extent on what you are comfortable with. For example, if it works for you (and the company can afford it, since you are past break-even), perhaps suggest that he increase his cash salary in exchange for you taking a larger equity piece.
