Medical Issue In Basic

Should I risk it? Lied to MEPS about medical issues.. (RECRUITERS PLEASE!)?

Alright, I'm pretty determined to join the Navy. I know that I can handle any physical stress that I'm put through in basic training and anything that follows. I was told by my recruiter that I had to lie about a few things in order to get in. I went to MEPS recently, and followed his advice. I'm so worried now.

My issue is, I fear that the medical issues I lied about should easily be found by MEPS/Navy. I'm an Army wife, currently under the same medical insurance provider as the Navy uses, Tricare. I've had the following things treated/diagnosed by Tricare: Ulcers (healed years ago), Kidney stones (about 1.5yrs ago, treated in ER), Surgery to clear up scar tissue from a rough miscarriage I had (2 years ago), referral to a counselor 9 months ago (for ADD that I didn't actually have, but I wanted the pills to help my grades in college).

All of these are disqualifying. I'm not even sure they are waiverable. I told my recruiter about the surgery and he "forgot" about it and somehow it got tied into a c-section surgery I did admit to having on paper.

I don't have any reason to believe that these issues would interfere with my ability to do my job, or get through basic. If there are any recruiters on here, do you think they will find my records when they sign me up for Tricare under the Navy? PLEASE HELP!

How long does a medical discharge take in basic training?

My fiancé fracture his knee while on a hike carrying 80 pounds worth of weight on his back training at Fort Benning, he said he's coming home but doesn't know when. Anyone know how long the process will be before he comes home??

Does the military cover any medical issues before training? For example, do you need wisdom teeth pulled before you go to basic training?

You get a complete physical and dental checkup before you are excepted. Any problems would either be wavered, or need to be dealt with prior to joining. Why would you need your wisdom teeth pulled?

Which health insurance is good for basic health issues like fever, cold, headaches, and their medicines?

No insurance will cover these kind of medical issues. Health Insurance gets invoked only when a person is hospitalized for at least 24 hours. In rare cases, domiciliary hospitalization is allowed with the consent of attending doctor. But for the conditions that you have described, health insurance is not the option. Health insurance is meant for major medical cases that can burn a hole in someone’s pocket.

Will the air force issue an inhaler after basic training?

You don't get a choice to when you ship for boot. You'll go when the AF has a slot for you.

If you have any symptoms that lead the doctor to diagnose you with asthma while in your initial training (boot or tech school), you will be separated from the military. Asthma is only ok after initial training. If the doctors are positive that there is no asthma whatsoever, and they think you need an inhaler, then they'll prescribe it. However, they will start with pills before going straight to an inhaler.

Which military branch is less strict with history of medical issues ?

Try the Coast Guard.

Why are you Americans so upset and disagree about the issue of basic health insurance? For us Europeans it is a matter of course.

Most American are greedy AF! They don’t want to sacrifice a few dollars in taxes so that I (and others in my economic position) can have health insurance I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. [Im looking at you, republicans]. On the other hand, some of us see it as the governments responsibility to care for its citizenry. We would be thrilled if health care was a settled debate as a garunteed human right. I think the sides are basically analogous on a number of issues. One side says, I don’t want any of my money going to poor people. While on our side we believe nobody should ever have to go hungry, sleep on the streets, or attend schools that are far to overburdened to prepare and qualify them for a job or higher education when they’re done. To get these things we’re more than happy to raise taxes, especially on the most fortunate and well off people..
