Military Career Military Technology/ Design

What can I do with an art degree in the U.S. military?

DO NOT HESITATE. Go see a recruiter. The DoD doesn't care what your degree is in, just that you had the maturity and higher-order thinking skills to finish school. Foreign language majors get commissions in combat engineers, phys ed degree holders go into intelligence, anybody can go into the infantry.  When you go into the military, they train you in whatever they need, and the knowledge and experience you bring with you just add to it. I worked with a girl with a degree in art and architecture, and she went into computers, setting up secure networks in the US and Afghanistan. She now makes a ton of money as a government civilian, thanks to her security clearance. Your options are to enlist for a commissioning program (officer) or join as an enlisted soldier and apply for a commissioning program (Officer Candidate/Training School). You can go full-time military, or joing the reserves/national guard and go through all the training, then go home and just train on weekends. Among the enlistment bonuses may be College Loan Repayment, which will pay off most or all of your student loans in exchange for successful service.

What can i do with a degree in Game design in the military or is there no hope?

It depends, are you wanting to go with game art or programing? Programming is useful anywhere that changes in computer code is needed. Game Art is what I am in but I cannot list any explicit things that this might help with in the Military. I would say, learn what you want and if you do not need the paper degree then you do not need to go to school for this. There are free programs such as Blender for your 3D needs, Gimp for your 2D needs, Sculptris or 3D Coat for 3D sculpting and painting directly on the model, and UDK and CryEngine SDK for your free game engines. This should help get you started but I suggest getting into forum and tutorial websites such as Polycount Forums, Epic Forums, 3D Buzz, and Youtube to be able to have a good source of critiques and learning material. If you want to connect with another Graphic artist check me out on Youtube, Username danewheeler (you should find me easy with a search of my name because most my vids are 3D oriented). Just PM me or comment on one of my vids. I will try to help you by answering questions when I can and see if I can give you some needed study material. I am only asking you to think about school before you enter it because it might not be all it is cracked up to be and I wouldn't want to see you get committed to something you might regret later. Good luck bud, I hope to see you on Youtube.

A career in CAD drafting and Design?

Hello! I have gottan a bachelors in Game Art and Design in dec. 2017 and I ve been having a very hard time finding jobs in the creative 3D art field. Every job that comes up when i look up 3d Art jobs are CAD drafting or CAD technician or CAD engineering and they seem to make pretty good money with benefits. I ve been doing 3d art since highschool and have accumulated many 3D modeling skills in maya, 3ds max, modo, rhino and zbrush and other programs and i have great rendering skills. I was wondering what skills do i need to become a CAD drafter or CAD engineer? I was also thinking about going back to school but i dont know if i should get a certificate, AAS or masters. Id rather not take the GRE test for im not great at testing in the first place. Any suggestions of what i should do? Im currently also a military spouse so im looking for school online that will take Fasfa and other aid.
