Can a member of the Special Forces rise to the rank of General?
Any commissioned officer has the potential of becoming a general, and there are several paths to becoming a commissioned officer. Most officers come from ROTC or one of the military academies, like West Point or the Citadel.Enlisted soldiers can apply for OCS (Officer Candidate School) and receive a commission. It’s a tough course, and I recommend they apply while they’re still young and fresh, not to far out of boot camp.On the battlefield, as happened often during WW2, soldiers can receive a battlefield commission. Sergeants go straight to 2nd Lieutenant to fill leadership roles.In peacetime, enlisted soldiers can also become a commissioned officer by appointment. This commonly happens when a soldier completes a college degree in a medical field. Registered nurses and medical doctors are appointed to a an officer grade. Lawyers are also commissioned by appointment.
