Does MiraLAX cause diarrhea?

Miralax is a drug used for constipation. If taken too much it can cause diarrhea. Too much is defined as taking 4 liters of it. There are other products called NuLYTELY and GoLYTELY in which patients take the entire 4 liters (ingest 8 oz every 10 minutes) until gone to clean out the intestines before undergoing a colonoscopy. (A procedure to look into the large and a small portion of the small intestines.)

If take Miralax as directed on the bottle, you should not expereince diarrhea. That being said, keep in mind, everyone has a different body and what you may need, may be more than what another person may need. So for example, you may need 2 tablespoons to get you going where as others may need 3. You will need to play with the dose to determine what is the best.

Miralax is safe and has minimal side effects.

Good luck.

Can miralax cause green diarrhea? Can constipation cause green diarrhea?

I have suffred from constipation the past 5 days and today i had taken miralax about an hour and a half ago. about 30 minutes after my stomach started to cramp up and i felt the worse pain ever with constipation and ive had some shitty times (no pun intended) . I felt the need to puke and i ran to the bathroom. I started to go with diarreah and i literally screamed as (ive been knowm for large poops) i pooped out something the size of an orange followed by more diarreah. It was super green, what could have caused this? (I had only eaten candy canes and ham recently too) i would literally have a panic attack if its something from an infection as im a huge emetophobe (it took me forever to take the miralax due to the nausea side effect) you know with infections comes vomiting.

Is miralax the same as milk of magnesia?help asap please!?

The compounds in MOM vs. Miralax are different (magnesium hydroxide vs Polyethylene glycol 3350). You are correct that they act in generally the same way, though they do have some differences. Perhaps most important is the potency. Miralax is significantly more powerful than MOM and is intended for only the most serious of cases. As you may know, this particular medication has only recently been cleared for OTC sale. Something else you should know is that Miralax can be habit forming, thus you should never take more than the recommended dose. If you are concerned with explosive diarrhea, Miralax is not a good solution for you. It sounds like you need a more mild solution, such as a high-fiber diet. Laxatives can be very dangerous medications and should only be taken with very occasionally without physician supervision.

What can I do to remove a hemorrhoid caused by diarrhea (stage 2, minimum) which has been there for 5 days?

Couple of things. Take a wash rag, put it under a faucet and get the water as hot as you can make it and put this compress directly on to your hemorrhoid. Do the heat compress twice a day for about 15 minutes. Then dry off with a towel take a quick shower get cleaned up maybe put some baby powder down there and some itch cream. Secondly, if you happen to have a heat dome that puts out infrared light which you probably do not have you could use that to to put direct infrared heat on to the hemorrhoid. The main thing I would stress to you is keep it dry and the baby powder will help with that . But, what you you really want to do is prevent this from happening in the future and so you need to in sure that you have enough fiber in your diet to correct this situation. Even with lots of fiber, occasionally you can get a hemorrhoid from something like lifting weights or straining due to some form of exercise. And that does happen to me once in a while. To mitigate that I have about six prunes every evening before I go to sleep and the next day I probably typically have at least two bowel movements during the day to keep myself cleaned out. Along with the prunes when you wake up in the morning make sure you have adequate hydration right away in the morning and throughout the day. This should prevent this from happening in the future. It is such a simple solution and I don’t know why more people don’t do it. Here is what you do:Prunes taste like shit unless you have them soft enough to eat very easily. Way to do that is to put about 30 prunes and put them in a microwavable bowl and add in about half a cup of water and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice and then cook the prunes on low heat for about 20 minutes. They would taste kind of tangy and soft and not too bad. Tell you the truth I don’t even like them that much when they’re cooked but they are an absolute necessity to remaining regular for me. They don’t taste too bad and they do the job.I used to have have a boss who was always super grumpy every time I saw him in the mornings so one day somehow got on the subject of bowel regularity and I found out that he was always constipated. After I told him what I just told you his life literally changed. I know number of people who are super grumpy and I can tell when they are constipated. Lol! Since they are good friends and I am not shy sometimes I bring it up yet they never change their habits so you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink OR THINK.

How long does it take for miralax to work?

Laxatives usually work within 24 hours.

Constipation is often due to an unhealthy diet with insufficient fiber.

Most people don't eat enough fiber.

Wheat germ, wheat bran, Chia seeds and Psyllium husks are very high fiber foods and there is also a lot of fiber in fruit and vegetables.

Both constipation and IBS as well as diarrhea can be cured with liquid chlorophyll as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22l...

Other natural ways to relieve constipation are covered in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22n...

Will Miralax cause weight loss?

If you're really constipated, it's possible that you could loose some weight. The build up of stool probably weighs a couple pounds. I hope I helped a little.

*You'd be surprised how much weight your poop can weigh

How can I stop severe diarrhea from taking too many stool softeners?

The BRAT diet is helpful for treating diarrhea: bananas, rice (white), applesauce and toast. If it’s a one time event, it will pass (g). Make sure to hydrate. If it’s an ongoing problem, you know the answer to that.

How long until this Miralax works?

Miralax isn't a laxative (for example, Ducolax or Exlax or Correctol). It doesn't cause cramping that will result in a bowel movement within a specified period of time. Miralax helps the colon absorb water, making the stools larger and softer, so you can go naturally. Because of that, it can take a couple of days of using Miralax before you notice a difference. For some reason, the Miralax website doesn't seem to be working right now, but they have a patient FAQ you can read.

As for when you'll need to go, no one will know better than you, but it shouldn't involve diarrhea or a rush to the bathroom. It's going to depend on how backed up you are, and why it happened. If you take medication that causes constipation, or tend to eat a diet low in fiber, Miralax will work best if you use it at least every other day.
