Motorcycle Tune Up Cost

How much to tune up a motorcycle?

I wouldn't even touch it man. It is just to old to put that kind of money into it. Plus if you got it tuned up that doesn't mean that it will run good. A lot of times people put new stuff in old engines and then the old stuff left in the engines can't take the new running of the new parts so they break and mess it all up. Take it from someone would bought a 1989 trx250x 4 wheeler and had a tune up done to it. Cost me 1000 bucks and didnt get 30 mins of riding time on it because of the old parts left in it. I only bought it for 500. Unless you collect them and your gonna fix it up to put on a stand, I would not touch it. Hope I helped you out.

Motorcycle tune up and cost?

With used bikes, and especially 30 year old used bikes (the 2012 bikes are manufactured through the last half of 2011, so your 1982 was made in 1981), it could be anything. You also have the complication of shops not wanting to touch anything older than 3~4 years old, so they double-charge for anything older. Some shops will also only have 1 mechanic who is willing to work on the older bikes, and they're usually backed up for a month or more (more right now in spring/early summer, less in fall/winter). So, taking a Wild guess on time and cost to have someone else work on it, you'd be without the bike for 6~8 weeks, and be looking at a bill from $300~1,000+ depending on what's wrong.

Having owned an '83 XJ650 (Maxim), I can offer that the shim under bucket valve lash setup is very robust and doesn't often need attention. While it doesn't hurt to Check (and is fairly easy). there will likely be no need for work there. The fuses on my had a nasty issue of rusting over/losing good contact that would cause funky running issues. A few minutes with some sand-paper, then coating the fuses and holder with grease (to help slow down the corrosion) could go a long way to helping. Then you have the common issues, notably rust in the gas tank and carbs that need cleaning. If you can remove both of those from the bike and deliver them to a competent mechanic (not necessarily a dealer or even a shop), they can inspect/clean/repair both for in the $100~300 range. Or you can search the internet/youtube for instructions on how to do the work yourself. If the bike sat for more than 3~4 months with gas in the carbs, I can guarantee that you'll need to clean them.

Good luck, having a poorly running motorcycle when the weather is nice sucks.

How much does a motorcycle tune up cost?

Tune-ups,will cost you arm and leg if you go to the local shop. Usually the 2 most important things to change are the plugs and air filter. See if one of your friends have that kind of knowledge. I know my local shop just raised their prices to 82clams an hour (wow0wow). My son has a zx6-1999,and I just recently did that for him, took about an hour and a half.so get your wallet out or find a friend who can help you out. Better yet try it yourself it ain't that hard. where do you live? Maybe one of us out here can help you out or at the vey least talk you through it

How much for a full motorcycle tune up??

Dude, there isn't much to a ' tune up '. Platnum plugs last & last. If they're OK, it's a waste to replace'em. Pick up a ' Clymers ' manual ( from yer nearest dealer or online ) & you'll have ALL the info you need for maintanence & repairs on the bike. Good Luck =^ )

How much does and Oil Change and tuneup cost for a motorcycle?

I want to know the AVERAGE price of a tune up & oil change for a motorcycle. Please no stupid *** answers saying it "varies", i know that, i just want some estimates please & thank you :)

Are these annual percentages and costs for motorcycle major and minor maintenance accurate?

I would agree with Frank. Mufflers require 0 maintenance cost.  Another thing is that you are comparing a BMW which would help in marketing as it has more problems among the few bikes reported  (according a 2008-2012 to Consumer Reports Survey). The problem is that it is the F800ST which has several issues.  One it is no longer in production the F800GT tooks its place.  Second it is a Sport Tourer (different class than the Zero and the Suzuki) so tires are different (and last much much longer, I used to ride a sport tourer although not a BMW). In general I can not speak on the BMWs as I only known 2 people that owned it and they had the best of luck them which means nothing went wrong at all and they sold them with over 70,000 only doing regular maintenance (which they did themselves). Now the Suzuki maintenance it a fantasy. First, the SVF650 has no fuel pump (unless you consider gravity a fuel pump and if that breaks it will cost more than $90 and everyone would be screwed). Oil pumps are a lifetime thing and the ones I heard breaking usually was on a sports bike and it means new engine (and those would be in the insignificant). Tune up on any shop I know will check all bolt checks and all the cable adjustments (including brakes which would be extra in the Zero since it never gets a tuneup). But I normally consider that a user regular maintenance. But you are missing valve adjustment, chain/belt adjustment. Also you have no mileage in here (which has to be really low if you are including the Zero as they are very crippled in range). I would imagine that most owner are planning to do less than 100 miles a day. Also what is the cost of running out of juice in a Zero (that is likely a higher than in a gas powered vehicle as it takes only 2 minutes to refuel). Also why does the rotors in the Zero need less maintenance are the magical rotors?  In reality any shop will charge more for parts and labor on anything with ABS period.  Also why are the brakes change yearly? Rotors every 2 and half years are they dragging their brakes?  I put over 12000K/year (I love riding bikes) on the bikes I have the owned and I change the front brakes every 60000 miles in average (change only brakes on rear on a use cruiser and it was done after 88,000 miles).

Dirt bike Tune up cost?

I would find out why it won't start before doing a tune up. I would check the spark plug first, then if you are getting spark look at the fuel issue. Make sure you have good gas in the tank and it is getting to the carb. Make sure the air filter is clean. Just use a systematic method to check why it won't start. remember an engine needs spark, fuel and compression to run. Find which one your bike is missing and go from there. Good luck.

What is the cost to tune up a PT Cruiser?

As the owner of a fleet of 16 PT cruisers, I'm pretty familiar with them. A tuneup is really just 4 spark plugs, new plug wires, and an intake plenum gasket set. The labor is generally about an hour and the parts around $75. Everything else pretty much falls into the category of preventive maintenance like air filter, oil filter, changing the oil, and flushing the coolant periodically. So if a shop charges $100 an hour, a tuneup should cost you about $175. It is a pretty simple project for a handy DYIer, as well.
