My 4 1/2 Year Old Plays Weird

My 29 year old GF plays with Barbie dolls...I don't care but my sister insists this is "weird"...opinions?

I am a Barbie collector. I've been collecting for ten years, and I am 27 years old. I have a Barbie room in my house full of dolls and houses, also. And I too do crafts for Barbies, including making furniture. It's a great relaxing and fun hobby... furthermore it's harmless, and if it doesn't hurt anyone including yourself, and gives you guys something to do together, a mutual hobby, then you need to ask yourself why it bothers your sister so much? It seems like she is putting quite a negative spin on something so innocent.

If you want to know why your girlfriend collects Barbies, then you should just ask her, she's not going to get mad at you for asking. Despite what some feminists would say, Barbie is actually a very positive role model for you women.

Barbie has had over forty pets including cats and dogs, horses, a panda, a lion cub, and a zebra - she's definitely an animal activist! She has owned a wide range of vehicles and carried a mortgage on a dreamhouse independently! She also holds a pilot's license, and operates commercial airliners, can drive everything from racecars, corvettes and R.V.s. Barbie's careers are designed to show that women can take on a variety of roles in life, and the doll has been sold with a wide range of titles including Miss Astronaut Barbie, Doctor Barbie, Nascar Barbie, Olympic Barbie, Army Barbie, Presidential Candidate Barbie, Dentist Barbie, Veterenarian, Paleantologist Barbie and of course Rock Star and Fashion Model. Barbie has represented 56 nationalities, proving she is the most culturally diverse toy of all time... oh and did I mention, she did it all while looking her best!

Barbie's body type is completely unrealistic, I will admit, but in 1959 they weren't exactly going for realism in a toy, they were going for something that looks aesthetically pleasing and is easy to play with... If Barbie were a real girl, she would be 5'6" with a 38" bust, 18" waist, and 33" hips. It's a play thing, a toy that doesn't hurt anyone unless they have neglectful parents who failed to explain the difference between fantasy and reality, toys and real life.

I hope your sister opens her eyes and stops projecting her negativity on your girlfriend and her harmless hobby. If I were you I wouldn't give it another second of thought, just enjoy your hot girlfriend!

Is it weird to play games that are about 10 years old?

My favourite game is Chrono Trigger. Do you know when it was released?March 11 1995.This game was released 3 years before I was born.I quite like Elite, though I play Elite Dangerous more often now.Do you know when Elite was released?September 20th 1984.There is nothing wrong with playing old games. There is no explicit rule saying that “all games before a certain age are objectively bad”. They may have worse graphics, or a less complex control scheme, but that is basically the only direct difference between them that I can find - well, that and potential size, but even then (Chrono Trigger could take anything between 1–30 hours per playthrough, depending on whether you were on New Game + and how confident you were about beating the final boss, and Elite managed to cram 8 massive procedurally generated galaxy maps onto roughly 27 kilobytes of storage and using an 8 bit processor) that is debatable. One thing you may want to consider, however, is that just like music the wheat is separated from the chaff by the inevitable threshing motions of time. As good or iconic games like Chrono Trigger, Elite, Mario or Space Invaders were, there are those that were absolute garbage. For example, while ET for the Atari 2600 is historically regarded as one of the worst games ever and as the cause for the collapse of the western gaming industry (until Nintendo and Mario came along) you need to remember that it was merely the last straw that turned the consumer-camel into a paraplegic. Due to the technologies of the time, it was entirely possible to churn out a simple but effective platformer with a rudimentary story in a month or so. There was a slew of crap games that flooded the market leaving people reeling and disillusioned. But why are none of these remembered? Because ET was the one everyone focuses on.Old games that are well known will, in all likelihood, be well known because they were - and still are - excellent. But for every Chrono Trigger or Megaman there were a dozen - or more - others which simply were… average at best.So while it isn’t weird to play games that are over 10 years old you do need to keep in mind that fact.

Why is my 15 year old son still playing with toys?

When I was 12, my mother took away my GI JOE, Lone Ranger, and West family dolls. At 15, she made me give away my Hot Wheels track and cars. As an adult with a grandson, I still read comics and play roleplaying games. She wanted me to “grow up”. She failed, and held me back. I resented her trying to make me change. Instead of taking away the tools of imagination, she should have encouraged me to get out more and interact with other kids more. After I moved out, I finally learned the socialization I missed as an introvert in school, but never gave up on my imagination and sense of wonder. If you really are concerned about your son, help him find more friends and activities, but stop trying to force him to act the way you think he should.I still love her, although she’s since passed, but she taught me early that she was flawed and not the foundation I wanted to build my life and personality on. A little more interference could have taken away too much of my respect for her to salvage a relationship. Don’t do that to him.

Is there anything wrong with a 16 year old playing minecraft?

Nope! I’m 16, and love the game for what it is - a blocky, silly building game with HUGE modifiability. You want realism? Theres mods, textures and shaders for that. You want machines? Theres a mod for that. You want magic? theres a mod for that. You want multiplayer? That… that comes with it anyway… but hell, there’s mods that integrate into that, too!*Ahem* Just realised this is starting to sound like an advert… But yeah, I love the game, and if you love it too, then great! If anyone says your weird/dumb/autistic for liking it, then shame on them. Just think of it like this: They’re probably trying to hide something about themselves by pointing it out in you. =3

Is my 14 year old son too old to get the Nintendo Switch for his birthday?

I resisted hard not to answer this but since I own a Nintendo Switch and follow the news closely, I will shed some light. I am 30 years old and I bought switch 3 months ago , my colleague is 32 and he bought Switch before me. To be honest, Playstation is more popular among teenagers and till mid 20s. So your son will have to be bold and be able to defend the purchase.First, I think the problem is not with your son being too old for switch or not but whether he will be able to defend why he purchased Switch instead of Playstation 4 or Xbox one X. Also, purchasing playstation is not a bad thing at all but it depends on your son's preference.I can give you some points to defend the Nintendo switch purchasePortability, you cannot carry either Playstation or Xbox outside. Yes, you can purchase a laptop for 600 to 800 Eur and can play better games but its bulky and weird to carry laptop, only for gaming.Nintendo exclusive games are enjoyed by all age groups. You have big tournaments around these games. Example, Splatoon 2, Arms. Legend of Zelda is one of my favourite game. It is not as intense as God of war on playstation with all gory but its a real fine game. You have so many games in line for Switch which again are not as badass like PC games of Playstation games but think about portability. You can carry so many good games with you. example, Metroid Prime 4, Skyrim, Fifa, Rayman legends, Rocket league, Batman and more..All Nintendo fans that I see online are grownups who became fan of Nintendo at a very early age and continued to love it.All the arguments will be around, Graphics specs. Playstaion 4 and Xbox one x will be able to support 4k games because of its power but not lot of games are in this resolution. Switch plays 900p, almost HD when docked to television. So, question to ask here is Portability vs Graphics, Nintendo exclusive games vs Playstation exclusive games. As I see the trend online, lot of people appreciate the portability part even though many users of Switch use it in a docked mode. So, ask right questions to your son and you can decide about the purchase.

Is it weird for a 12-year-old to own a really powerful computer with a GTX 1080?

If it's your personal computer, I think it is. For a family gaming rig, less so. My PC has an i7-4790K, 32 GB DDR3-1866 HyperX Fury, an R9 Fury, and a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo. I have an Asus Z97 Pro Gaming motherboard, and a Rose will HIVE 650 Watt PSU, with an NZXT S340 as my case. I paid for every single part of that PC out of pocket. It took me about 3 years to build. I did everything I could to earn money for it. I mowed lawns, cleaned houses, detailed cars, fixed sound systems… In 2014 it was one of the best rigs money could buy, and I expect it to last me through college. Finally I got a real job and discovered cars, lol… Anyways, the point of the answer is that if you work hard and save your pennies (and everything else too), you can buy whatever kind of PC you want.

I've been learning piano since I was 12 years old. I'm 18 now and I still suck at piano. I did stop piano for 1-2 years in between, but I still suck at playing it. I have my grade 4 certificate. How am I supposed to play like a pro pianist?

I took my first piano lessons at the age of 6, and continued them until 14 or so and then took a break for a few years. I learned drums then and started to play electric bass as well. I picked up piano lessons again at the age of 18.The interesting thing is that I learned to listen to music during the time I didn't take lessons, and learned to accept that any kind kind of music is very valuable, even if the ones playing it suck at playing. Sometimes they manage to put more feelings and life into their playing and their music than many others who play much better than them. One teacher I had when I was around 20years old was a 76 years old lady who played classic music all her life. She said she doesn't know anything about jazz or rock, all the same we figured out a lot of stuff she could teach me and she herself took lessons again with a young teacher from the jazz school. Now, at age of 45, I am not that bad at playing bass guitar and still have some skills on piano or rather, most intruments that are played with a keyboard. No matter how long you play, there's always new stuff to learn, but the important thing is, as Lana said, continue practicing on a daily basis, and never stop questioning and analyzing what you play and how you play it.And the most important, at least for me, have fun with it and be patient. It often feels as if you are stuck with something, but if you conesquently continue practicing you will suddenly realize one day that some stuff works out pretty nice that you were sturggling with before. It's not that you see progress on a daily basis, it often feels like a sudden jump when things work out.I am not a professional (even if I managed to make my living from music for a couple of years), but I never lost the fun at playing music and so I give myself at least an hour or two every day to play music and I still love it :)

Is it weird that I let my six month old daughter have a bath with her male cousins (1 and a half and 2 years old)? My partner told me I shouldn’t have.

Yes, I would be concerned. It appears that one adult is looking after three babies in the bath, and that’s not safe. Small children drown very quickly. All it would take is something to distract you (which often happens when you are looking after young children) and one of the babies could slip under the water. Trying to deal with an upset, drenched, spluttering baby and two other babies as well could be dangerous. However, since you asked whether it was “weird” and you stressed that your daughter’s cousins are male, I presume you are asking about sexuality. No, it’s not weird for young children of different genders to bathe together. It’s been happening for centuries. In fact, I would recommend it. Gender is something that should be introduced early in life, in a natural way. Children who learn about gender in that way will grow up knowing how males and females are different, without remembering how they know. It’s better than having an uninformed ten-year old with an overactive and possibly inappropriate curiosity about the opposite gender. Some of the other answers have suggested that your partner is weird, idiotic or creepy for being concerned about it. While that’s possible, I think it’s more likely that he’s just very protective of his daughter and is a product of a world that is hyper-sensitive about sexuality. If your partner thinks about it rationally, he will realise that male toddlers have no concept of sexuality and are not going to behave inappropriately toward a baby. Likewise, a baby is not going to be at all concerned by seeing other naked children, irrespective of their gender.
