My HP Laptop screen goes dim when plugged in, does anyone know how to fix it?

You may have a problem with your charger unit.
If you have been running the laptop from the battery supplied and its been fine then that would suggest that the battery is okay.
If however, you are trying to charge the battery while at the same time working on your computer AND the screen goes dim then that would suggest that the power supply unit is struggling to supply all the current needed and suggests a faulty power Supply unit (psu). Ordinarily, a good psu would not struggle like this and would both charge and run the laptop at the same time. The fact that you have been able to run from the battery would suggest that the psu HAS been charging the battery but that you have been charging it while the laptop has been switched off and not in use.

Some power supply units can operate at different output voltages that are switchable, it maybe that you have the voltage too low. If it is not switchable then you may need to ask yourself if this is the correct PSU for use with your laptop or have you got it mixed up with another.

Of course there may be a much simpler explanation to your problem related to the HP laptop you are using, but I offer up what I know if it helps at all.

Help!my computer screen shrunk how do I get it back to normal?

right click anywhere on your desktop (not an icon)
go to properties

now a box called display settings should come up.

go to the settings tab.

now near the bottum left there should be a slider. it will be labeled "screen resolution". Slide that towards the left side and it should fix everything.

click apply or OK.

i hope this helped :)

My acer laptop's screen's brightness has gone so low that I cant even see the screen. What might be the problem and solution for that?

Assuming your keys on the keyboard to adjust screen brightness do nothing, try going into "Power" in Control Panel and check the settings there.  You might also search in Control Panel for video settings which can be adjusted (depending upon the brand of computer).  Next step is to connect to an external screen by video or HDMI. If this fails, it's likely time to start thinking about another computer. Unlike desktops, a laptop usually has soldered in parts so you have to replace the entire motherboard. Which usually doesn't make financial sense even if you can manage to find one on eBay since what is offered is usually "used" and may well not work when you get it.

Laptop screen brightness stuck on dim - Windows 8.1?

Hi I have a Lenovo ideapad P400 Touch laptop that I just bought back in April with Windows 8 on it.

And about a month ago I upgraded it to the Windows 8.1 preview.

Last night I was messing with the brightness and I took it down to the lowest it can get, and then when I tried to move the slider back up to make my screen brighter the slider moved but my screen stayed on dim.

I've gone through the power plans and made sure everything checked out and also made sure all my drivers were updated. I've done a check for a windows update and I am up to date.

I don't have any kind of light sensor to my knowledge that is on and would cause my screen to be dim.

One interesting note though I did an "improve power usage" scan to see what it would come up with and it says "screen saver is enabled - problem not fixed" and under that it says "brightness too high - problem fixed" but when I adjust my slider it still does nothing.

I've done a little research and the best explanation I can come up with is Lenovo's drivers are actually for windows 7 and don't take into account the new code of windows 8. This causing things to not work properly.

And the only fixes I can come up with is wipe windows 8 off my computer and re-install it. Or wait til Lenovo comes out with drivers for windows 8.

I don't know how to un-install and re-install win8 and I really don't think I can just sit here and wait while I can barley see the screen on my pretty much brand new $900 laptop.

Any help here??

My computer monitor is dimmer than usual?

My laptop is a few years old, maybe three at most, and it needs a new battery so bad that if it is unplugged from the charger for longer than five, ten minutes, it shuts down. I don't know if that has to do with my newest problem: The dim screen.

I can control it on my Control Panel, and make it dimmer, but on the brightest setting, it's still dimmer than usual, and it's plugged in (it's lighter when it's plugged in) because it has to be. Even lighter plugged in, it's dimmer than the usual "lighter plugged in" that I've had since I got it.

Nothing as far as Control Panel changes has worked as of yet, so I'm beginning to think I need that battery more than I thought.

What is causing the dim screen? Is it the battery, is it the old laptop, should I just restart it a few times? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

LCD TV displays "Not Support" when connected in PC mode via a VGA cable?

I purchased an Element Electronics 32" TV to use as my PC monitor a couple of months ago. Randomly it will display a floating box that says "Not Support" after the user screen comes up (but not everytime it is restarted). I've been having to disconnect it and reconnect my old 19" flat screen monitor, log in to my user account, ensure the internet is connected and working (I've noticed if the internet is not operating it will not leave the "Not Support" screen), then reconnect the new 32" screen. This has been enabling me to use it (even though it has been a hassle). Then yesterday we had a power outage while the computer was running. Since then the monitor will only display the floating "Not Support" after the user log in page unless I run in Safe Mode. All screens before the account log in screen display though sometimes they appear to be in the wrong resolution - grainy, stretched, etc. I've tried all the available screen resolutions but nothing is fixing it.

The Element TV is model ELCFW327 (btw, Element's website says that's an invalid model number - but it is clearly printed on the TV, box, and all manuals); my computer is a Lenovo running Vista Home Premium with an Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor E2200.

I have tried unplugging the TV and letting it "rest" before trying again; I've tried all available screen resolutions, refresh rates, etc; tried rebooting / booting in safe mode; and I've tried making adjustments to the resolution while in safe mode.

I have researched online and found a couple of places where others have complained of similar problems with setups different from mine but none of their 'fixes' worked on mine. Can anyone help? I am just not sure where to go from here or what else to try.

Thanks in advance to any serious replies!
