Why does my cat keep bringing her kittens to my bed? I let her stay with them on my bed, but I wonder why. She had a lot of pillows and sheets on her bed, why bring them to mine?
Cats are very social animals, just in a different way than dogs or humans. I always had dogs when my cats had kittens and the same thing repeated itself again and again. People had told me that the mother cat would find some inaccessible place to have her kittens because there was a dog around. Our cats always trusted our dogs enough to have their kittens in our bedroom closet or somewhere similar where the dog could have easily gotten at them. We observed our to-be mommy and my wife laid out sheets and blankets at the places the cat was exploring. She eventually chose a spot and had the kittens in front of our eyes with the dog also present. As soon as a kitten came out and was licked clean, we picked it up and let our dog smell it and lick it.After about a week, the mother moved her kittens a short distance to another spot, also easily accessible. Our dog usually helped with the move. It is quite a sight to see a 64 Kg Landseer walk by with a kitten in its mouth. When they were really little she would carry them between her teeth rather than by the scruff of the neck.In this way cats had their “pride”, dogs had their packs and humans had their communities. Our dogs even took the kittens out and taught them how to hunt. Cats are very adept at fitting themselves into a social situation or, often, fitting the social situation to themselves. Our cats never brought their kittens into our bed, because that was the dog´s territory. They respected that. Later the older kittens would jump onto the bed when baby sitting services were needed.

We hire our neighbor's 15 year old daughter to watch our 6 y/o daughter and 9 y/o son (our 14 y/o son has shown he is not nearly responsible enough to look after them) while we are at work over the summer. However, my husband recently found out that our teenage son has a big crush on the girl. She is a very pretty and "flirty" type of girl and we don't want anything to potentially happen, however unlikely it is. So we want to find someone else, but she has done a great job for over two years, how should we explain to her and her parents why we are firing her?

Welll....heres my thoughts. First off, alot of young boys his age have these sites talking about sex, drugs, and guns. Hardly any of them at all are serious. Believe me. Hell, I made jokes about guns and sex when I was 14, and I hadnt even ever held a gun in my life at that point. So, dont take that too seriously. Also, although you might not think so, but your daughter probably makes jokes and talks about sex with her friends. Its no huge deal at that age. The key is to explain how things work and what to do and what not to do. Like, wait till shes older and be safe etc etc etc. Look, the worst thing you can do as a parent and as a human being is judge people based upon things like myspace quizzes. Dont automatically hate him and think hes a "punk" (whatever you mean by that). First off, youll get a better relationship with your daughter if you respect her enough to be considerate to her little boyfriends. And not to mention that at 13, relationships last what, a month? Two? Just let it be. It'll die and she'll be fine. Besides, it really is her life, and if she makes little mistakes, she'll learn from them. You cant keep her in the innocence bubble forever. Bottom line is, you cant break them up without her hating you. And should you do it anyway, she might just lose respect for you and just do things behind your back from that point on. Let me tell you, my dad kicked me out of his house when I was 17 for smoking pot (as if it was some sort of mega-sin, but thats another story) and I went to live with my mother. My sister, continued to live with him, and having seen what happened with me when I was open with my dad about smoking and whatnot, she did it anyways, just went and did it behind his back. To this day he has no idea. He remains convinced that she was a perfect little girl during her school days. Always be open, encourage your kids to talk to you about EVERYTHING!
