My Crushed Black Pepper Got Wet And It Has A Dirt Like Taste And Nasty Smell. Is It Mold

What do I do when I spill water on my carpet?

Dirt, spills are some of the common accidents that happen around at home either by kids or pets.Even adults also spill water on carpets, no cause for alarm when this happens.Stuff like this times happens although spills on a hard surface are easy to deal with compared to spills on a rough surface like carpets. So now below are the recommended steps taken to remove spilled water on the carpet to avoid smells, discoloration, and molds. How to Remove Spilled Water on Carpet Procedures1. I think it is wise to first to remove all pieces of furniture, pieces of equipment from the affected area. This is because furniture stains and paints can mix up to stir the affected area.2. Place a dry rag on the wet area to soak up the spilled water. Apply slight pressure on the rag to absorb the water more and more.If the water spilled is much, take the rag outside and press hard to remove the absorbed water and go back to perform the initial actions again.3. A vacuum cleaner can also be sued to remove spilled water on carpet.Turn the surface of the vacuum machine to the wet area and run it over and over the wet carpet.Apply pressure by pressing the nozzle to absorb more water from the edge of the carpet, and then take outside to empty the water when the tank becomes full.4. You can also make use of hair dryer, heater, fan to dry the affected area but be careful not to apply hot air to the area, this can be harmful to the carpet.5. It is also recommended that you slightly lift the edge of the carpet to avoid the water from spreading more while pressing a dry rag beneath the affected area. Then use another rag to absorb the water on the interface.

I discovered mold on the paper side of pink insulation in a storage room under my stairs. Help!?

About a year ago, I qualified for weatherization of my home through the county I live in. In storage place under a stair well, they placed sheets of pink insulation on the wall with the paper side facing out. They placed plastic sheeting over the insulation. My entire house smells like mold and I can visibly see mold growing on the paper of the insulation. I called the county and they said 1/ the mold is dead and isn't dangerous 2/ the room is completely dry and 3/ they just need to replace the sheeting and all will be fine. I'm not convinced I won't have this same issue somewhere down the road. There is a crawl space (under my house) under this floor. There is a hole right in the floor right in front of where the mold problem exists. They didn't know how to patch the floor so they put plastic sheeting on the floor of the crawl space (it's earth...dirt) and just covered the hole with a piece of wood. I'm suspicious this is how moisture is getting in and causing the mold issue. My question is, is the plastic sheeting up to code? I have a child that is specifically allergic to mold and has asthma that flares with allergies. Mold that is strong enough to stink my entire house is dangerous, yes?

My crushed black pepper got wet and it has a dirt like taste and nasty smell. Is it mold?

I think you'll be fine but I would throw away what is left and get new. Sounds like mold to me.

Can you get high from the smell of marijuana?

Yes you can.Although it would be more accurate to say that you can get high from the SMOKE, not just smell.I was smoking weed with my non-weed smoker in my minimally ventilated 3x4 room once, and after some time my friend got bloodshot red eyes and being calm. So I can tell he is definitely high. But probably it would depends a lot on how much smoke is swirling around and your level of tolerance towards THC.My cat also get docile everytime I smoke weed in said room with her around, so probably she gets secondhand high too. But apparently she doesn't like it so most of the time she would go out if I start to smoke haha

What is causing me to cough phlegm with black spots?

Many times, phlegm can appear to have black specks in it just as a result of environmental pollutants. Dust and other particles when inhaled can translate into darker or speckled mucus. This can also be a result of nasal mucus, whereas dirt and debris breathed in through the nose can make its way through the respiratory system and result in coughing up black mucus, or that which is discolored or full of specks and flecks. The nose also can contribute to black specks in mucus in another fashion as well. When blowing the nose becomes excessive and dryness and cracking in the nostrils give way to bleeding, small pieces and spots of dried blood can very easily become mixed right in with mucus. Black mucus in nose areas is often a result of dried blood, and this can change the color entirely or merely add some speckled spots therein. Therefore nasal mucus may very well be the cause of black specks in mucus.Another common reason that dotted mucus may be present is simply related to meal time. Wisegeek notes that ingesting black foods can temporarily change the color of one’s mucus, and certain edibles such as licorice and chocolate can lead to black mucus or that which can be speckled. Normally, black specks in mucus resulting from food sources however is temporary. And, therefore recurring bouts are likely not attributed to this cause (unless licorice and chocolate are very frequent menu items).Phlegm that is black is incredibly common as a result of inhaling smoke and, black specks in mucus are not uncommon as a result of inhaling the toxins. It’s been suggested that the black flecks are a result of tar in the lungs. While most common in cigarette smokers, those that are frequently exposed to smoke, such as firefighters, may also experience occasional black mucus. Black specks in mucus could also be present in people working in coal mines, automobile manufacturing plants, and road construction industry. And of course, dried blood again can cause black specks in mucus, but in a different way than via nose canals. In certain rare infections (fungal in nature) such as mucormycosis and aspergillosis, blood can be found in the lungs that can be expelled with mucus. This bleeding can also be caused by other health conditions such as cancer of the lungs and emphysema. When released in the mucus, instead of the characteristic red color that is typical of blood, a darker and black hue can be evident, and specks and flecks are not uncommon as well.

How long does cooked rice last in the fridge?

Cooked rice is a generally considered low risk food item. This is due to the low levels of protein contained in it. The type of bacteria that like protein rich environments are more likely to give you food poisoning than the type of bacteria that thrive on starch and sugars. It's a little more complicated than that but that's  a good rule of thumb. There are some good guidelines here: Storage Times for the Refrigerator and FreezerHowever cooked rice or something similar isn't really covered here. For home purposes, as Garrick Saito has stated, you can store rice in the fridge for quite a long period. Though the longer you keep it in the fridge the more you risk giving yourself food poisoning of some form. Also the quality of it will decline due to dehydration and natural decomposition. The main risk you have with rice are Bacillus cereus (aka "Fried Rice Syndrome) and the Aspergillus genus of mold species that love starch rich environments and can cause you serious pain and damage. In a professional kitchen all cooked food is disposed of after 3 days in the fridge. That is 3 days in the fridge continuously. Anything taken out left on the bench or reheated is disposed of at the end of the day/shift.Personally, I don't keep rice longer than 3 days in the fridge and when I do reheat it, I reheat only what is to be eaten, no more. Left over reheated rice is thrown out. Given that you can easily cook very small portions of rice and the relative low cost of it. I don't see the need to keep cooked rice for extended periods of time in the fridge. Anyway, there's nothing like freshly cooked rice, the aroma, texture and taste.
