My Dog Has Been Yelping When We Slightly Touch Her

My dog yelps when I touch her ear?

Absolutely does sound like ear mites or a yeast infection, both of which require vet check and remedy.

Please get your dog to a vet asap, this has got to be really painful for her, as she's shown you.

Don't try to treat this yourself because you don't know if it's mites or yeast infection, get her to the vet --- borrow the money if you have to --- and then keep the meds on hand in case it repeats in the future.

Note: An aspirin is NOT going to do anything for her ear infection and it could very well cause internal bleeding - please don't do that - ever. There are pain meds for dogs, but your dog doesn't have an illness requiring them, what she needs is specific meds for either an ear infection or ear mites - please get those for her and don't make things worse by taking the advice of people on here who are not vets by a long shot. There are ear cleaners sold in feed stores and pet shops, but unless you know specifically what is causing your dog's problem, it's not a good idea to try them.

Dog yelps when we touch ears?

Devon, you should schedule an appointment for your dog to see a veterinarian. Painful ears can be a sign of a very bad infection. Have you ever had an earache? Times this by ten and this is probably what it feels like for your dog, which is why she yelps when you touch her ears. Sometimes if infections are left for a long time and the dog has been scratching its ears often, they can cause what is called an aural hematoma which is an accumulation of blood and lymph fluid inside the skin of the ear flap itself. Do you dogs ears appear swollen? This is also a very painful condition.

Usually you will be sent home from the vet's with an ear medication that is both an antibiotic to kill the bacteria/yeast in your dogs ear as well as an anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling/irritation. If it's a bad infection they can even send you home with oral antibiotics and/or oral pain medication to help you get the medication into her ears. If it's an aural hematoma, it will require immediate surgery...

Please call your vet's office right away and get your poor dog in to see a vet!

Dog yelps when we touch her neck?

We have a 4 year old Basset hound, and for the last two days she occasionally yelps when we touch her neck. We took her collar off and there's nothing sticking in it that would make us think it would aggravate her. We've checked all around her neck for any sores and don't see anything. She still runs around outside and plays, jumps on and off the couch, eats and drinks fine, and is acting totally normal. We've rubbed around her entire neck and pressed around it and she doesn't get upset about any places we touch, she just occasionally yelps when we go to touch her neck. We do have another smaller Basset that plays with her and will jump on her, it's safe to assume she may have pulled a muscle, but you'd think when we massaged all around her neck that one of the areas would have been sensitive. Any ideas?

Why is my dog yelping when her head is touched?

My dog, Kya, has yelped quite a few times today when her head (specifically the area around her eyes/ears) is touched. It's a very high-pitched yelp that we've never heard before. This has mostly been happening today but has happened once or twice in the past week. There's no obvious sign of injury, and hasn't had a head injury as far as I know. I'm real worried since it's related to her head, so please help!

Why is my dog yelping when I pick him up?

If this is a sudden development, and there’s no possibility that your dog recently had someone drop them (thus creating a new fear of being carried), you need to take them to the vet as soon as possible to rule out any issues. My friend used to have a terrier with lung problems, and so he absolutely hated anyone pressing on his rib cage- which was often required to pick him up. Those lung problems eventually killed him. Jake was fabulous, and is definitely missed. If your dog is older, it could be arthritis, and you jostling your dog as you pick him up causes it to hurt more. (My chihuahua had this issue.)If your dog has a hurt rib or ligament or something, that could also result in pain when lifted. It could also be back problems. Longer and shorter breeds will be more susceptible, especially if they are overweight.Your dog might also be asleep or otherwise distracted when all of a sudden someone lifts them up and scares the hell out of them. (My chi had this issue too, as he got older and lost much of his eyesight and hearing, and couldn’t tell you were coming. We would pat the couch next to him to let him know someone was there, and he would look for whoever it was, and then once he recognized the person, he was okay to be picked up. He made it to 16, so he had a lot of health issues near the end, poor guy.)Of course, the yelping could also be fear or panic. Medium/larger dogs are typically less okay with being picked up, because of both fear of heights and knowing their size (no dog wants to be accidentally dropped). If they’re being picked up by someone they don’t trust very much yet, that could be a factor, too. My chihuahua never liked being held by kids, but was okay with us holding him when we got older.

My dog keeps shaking his head and yelping when I touch his ear?

About 2 weeks ago, I let my dog in from outside and he was shaking his head like crazy. He stopped the next day but started again a few days later (not as bad though) then he was fine for a week or so but yesterday my mom was petting his head and he yelped when she touched his ear. He did the same thing once today and he shakes his head every once in a while and scratches his ear.

Should I take him to the vet or at least call the vet? I'm not sure if this is something serious or not. (I'm new to this) He's acting perfectly fine besides that, still hyper and happy...eating and drinking the same. I also looked in his ear and didn't see anything unusual, but I'm still a little worried.

He's been playing around in the dirt a lot lately and he was out in the rain recently, not sure if that could have anything to do with it.

My dog yelps when we touch around her hind leg but isn't limping?

I have a nine year old airedale terrier who is the healthiest dog my family has ever had. She has never had any health issues, and is just as energetic as a puppy. Today when she got up from laying down, she yelped really loud. We didn't really think much of it at first because we just figured she pinched something. I walked up to her later that day to pet her around the joint of her hind leg and she yelped and ran off. I was really concerned so i felt around there until she yelped again to see where exactly the pain is, and i think it's the joint but i'm not sure. she isn't limping or anything, and has no issues with wanting to walk and just seems completely fine other than when that area gets touched.

should i take her to the vet tomorrow, or will this heal on it's own?

Dog yelping everytime hind leg is touched??!?

Please help me!! So right now I am tight with money and all with Christmas and bills and everything, but my chihuahua is 3 and a half years old and he just recently started yelping every time his hind leg is slightly touched. He lays on it fine, walks without limping, and even jumped up on my bed but when I was petting him and got near his hind leg he yelped in pain. He is eating and drinking fine as well. He seems normal other than the problem with his leg. Any suggestions? Besides taking him to the vet, I know I need to and I will come up with the money to do so but does anyone have an idea as to what it may be?

My dogs yelps every time i touch her?

I understand that you do not have the money. What you need to understand is that no one, not even a vet can give you an answer over the Internet that would accurately diagnose let alone fix your dog. The dog does need to see a vet for treatment. Since you do not have the money then you must either call around and find a vet who is willing to treat it for free or let you pay over time. If you can't find one willing to do that then you need to surrender your dog to either the animal shelter you rescued it from or to another animal shelter or the ASPCA. They will see that the dog gets the vet care she needs.

Dog's head is down and sometimes yelps when we touch his head?

Could be a disk or vertabrae injury. Not lifting the head and evidence of pain is pretty alarming, actually. I think you need to take him tonight. We are not professionals, but if any animal of mine was showing these indicators - I would take them in right away. If you must wait until tomorrow, know that he is going to be in pain all night long. Waiting any later than tomorrow morning is just not acceptable. Dogs are not able to speak, so he is dependent on you to pick up his signs and act accordingly. If you had a mute friend who was not eating and only sat around without lifing their head and cried when you touched their head, how long would you leave him sitting there before getting him some help? Get your dog treated - he is in pain.
