My Dog Really Hates Me After I Touched His

Why do dog hate having their tail touched?

They DON'T!!!
I use mine as "handles" all the time!

Why does my dog hate it when i touch his paws?

One of two things:
--He needs his nails clipped and his paws might be a little sensitive.
--If he has ever has them clipped, he may be freaked out by having them touched at all because of the experience.

Why does my dog hate for me to touch her tail.?

Probably nothing. Some dogs simply do not like their tails touched. It's the same with others who don't like their paws or heads touched,m that's all. When you're walking her, try LIGHTLY tying another leash or a ribbon around her tail to hold up when you're walking. The tail being up means that the dog has more self-confidence. If you are truly worried about her, you can always take her to the vet.

Do dogs really want to be petted?

In general, YES, dogs do indeed want to be pet. Knowing when, why and how are important to staying safe. Dogs are social creatures and will rub against each other for many reasons. Spreading scent throughout the pack helps identify membership; this includes human members. Some dogs will “attention demand” by nuzzling, pushing, or leaning on pack members until they get what they want: Affection, food or a walk. My dog is rubbing his face on my hands while I sit and type this; a perfect example.Dogs typically enjoy the right type of touch. Not all dogs are created equal: Some dogs are fearful of strangers and may see incoming touch as a threat. Some may be sensitive in certain areas due to an injury that may not be visible. Some dogs may have poor vision making them a bit more defensive. Other dogs would rather not be bothered with too much affection. This can be breed specific: Shiba Inus are stereotypically not a fan of long cuddle sessions. Other differences occur within the same breed as with my own German Shepherds: My 5 year old will cuddle in a ball on the couch and drift asleep as you pet him while my 10 year old will allow about 30 seconds of petting before walking away (unless you get his itchy spot). In short, DO pet a dog because most enjoy it as much as we do. Be sure to ask the owner as they typically know their dog best. Respect a strange dog’s boundaries by not touching her if the owner is not around. DO NOT allow small children to pet a dog without the owner's permission as some dogs can be more fearful of children without previous exposure. Hold off if you feel anxiety about petting a strange dog; they can sense your concern and will also feel anxious. DO NOT lean over to stick your hand out for a shy dog to “sniff." Often this only makes a dog more fearful as this motion incidentally creates a dominant posture. Kneel for smaller dogs or wait for the dog to come to you. They will let you know if they are interested!

Why does my dog get mad when I touch his crate?

He growls at you because he thinks the crate is his. If you want him to stop growling at you, you have to let him know that the crate is yours and that you are only allowing him to sleep there.

His behavior is his way of showing dominance over you. He is claiming his territory.

This is a bad thing to let a dog do. What if you have a child or a friend over who doesn't know about the crate and he bites them. You are going to feel really bad.

You should not let him even approach the crate, or anywhere for that matter, unless you have allowed him to be there. You have to claim the entire house as your territory including the crate. You do this by using body language and posture. Be assertive, but calm, and use your erect posture to push him or corral him away from the crate. While you are doing this, think to yourself, "that's mine, dog!". Keep doing this until you see him submit to your authority. Then only allow him into the crate when you say it's okay.

This may take some time and practice, but you'll have a much better dog in the long run.

My dog doesnt like his paws touched?

Hi Em,

I had a rescue (that I kept for my own dog) who would not let me touch her paws so.. I made it a point to break her of that habit. I handled her feet a little bit every night. It was not pretty at first, but it's PART of being handled that every dog needs to learn to submit to.....period.

If you think he has a medical problem then have a vet check him out before you start to condition him to ALLOW you to handle his paws. If he's has arthritis well then that would be an exception, but still... I'd gently TEACH him to allow me to handle his paws.

You should trim a dogs nails about every month - month and a half IF they are not wearing them off themselves....and I would imagine he's bad about that too. Trimming can be a tough judgment call on black nails...so you need someone to teach you how to do that.

Yep...some dogs hate having their feet touched, but most dogs don't like having their anal glands squeeze, or vaccinations either. Paw handling is as common as any other part of grooming, and taking control of your dog.

Start out slow (muzzle if necessary or have someone you trust control his head) and handle his paws daily. When your done...give him a little treat as a positive reward. Once he's accustomed to you handling his pads then start rubbing his toes (and in-between his toes). Then you can learn to trim his nails. It's a slow process, but honestly EVERY DOG should be taught to submit to have every part of his body from his mouth to his fanny handled and worked on without it being a battle. .

Your vet will thank you for it!
