My Ferret Is Twitching What To Do

My ferret is twitching like crazy?

Twitching?? If you mean convulsing, water down some honey and put it on your ferrets gums, just rub it on the gum line (don't spray it down the throat; you risk drowning the animal). It may be having a hypoglycemic episode. If that isn't the case I would be looking for toxins the animal could have gotten into and take her to the vet.
The reason I mentioned the low blood sugar is because ferrets are prone to a condition called pancreatic insulinomas which causes them to have low blood sugar.
Whatever the cause, if the animal is convulsing it needs to see a vet ASAP.
Good luck with it all.

How do I get my two ferrets to get along?

Okay, calm down and don't be stressed!! He's an unaltered hob, and male ferrets that aren't neutered do not tolerate new ferrets well- specifically females of any sort and neutered males. Why? Sometimes they confuse neutered males with female ferrets!

Since he is whole and 4 months old, he has to be kept in a seperate cage until an appropriate neutering age. (6 months is the youngest to neuter, but 1 year to 1 1/2 years is the best age.) Even after he's neutered, it can take a few months for his hormones to settle and such, and it's not guaranteed he will get along with others.

If you don't like the fact that you have to wait this long and that he may never want to live with other ferrets, then I suggest you return him to the breeder so that he can go to a home that is prepared to keep him alone if need be. Most responsible breeders will happily take him back knowing the situation, and might have some neutered and/or retired breeder ferrets (female and male, it doesn't matter if they're neutered) that they think could fit you and your ferret's household better.

How do I get my ferret to stop biting?

please do NOT scruff ferrets! or any animal. i understand that they have extra skin but it still seems so uncomfortable. i love when my fuzzies bite because it IS just a form of play and usually it isn't rough at all also i did have one that HATED bitter apple years ago (he WAS aggressive). but if you really dislike the way yours is biting all i can suggest is a time out. it works when one of my more feisty boys sometimes plays roughly with one of my little girls. just hold him for 3 to 5 minutes, don't let him move. hold him (without squeezing) and say no without yelling at them, they're not going to understand your aggression to their playing. after a while they should stop, but if it isn't rough nipping, it's just playful. it's how they interact with each other and in general.

My ferret has been twitching and acting "limp" for a few days...?

Please take her to a vet.
My boy Bandit had similar symptoms, which turned out to be seizures, he would go limp, shakey, drool and breath very quickly.
It turns out he has insulinoma which is a common cancer of the pancreas. It can be treated with surgery, though due to her age they may just go to meds. They prescribe prednisone to treat it, and you may be given an antiobotic aswell at the beginning. The vet will test her Blood Glucose levels, the prednisone dose may need to be raised, my guy has been upped twice. They can live for quite a while on the meds and do very well. My boy is back to normal and quite active again.
Please take her to a vet ASAP!!

Why does my ferret squeak and twitch when its sleeping?

Probably having a nightmare, nothing you should be concerned about. Some Ferrets literally wake up in the middle of the night screaming from a nightmare.

What should I do about my ferret...?

Ur ferret is just being a ferret. ;) My ferret 'lives' in my bedroom too. I no longer have my mattress and box-spring on a bed frame. They just rest on my floor. This is part of ferret proofing.

This is what I ultimately recommend...get rid of the bed frame. Offer your ferret lots of places to hide and sleep. Ferrets look for secluded, dark places to sleep. I ended up clearing out my desk drawers and filling them with old t-shirts. My ferrets love it...except for I'm out of a functional desk now. LOL You could also buy those heavy cardboard drawers. Do you know what I'm talking about? They usually are used for laundry rooms and guest rooms. In fact you can find them in the section of your local K-Mart or Wall-Mart that has hangers, storage, and laundry baskets. Anyway...cut a few holes in the back side so that your ferret can crawl into the drawers, which you have lovingly filled with old sweatshirts and t-shirts. :) This will hopefully keep them out of your furniture and bed!

Good luck!

Here is an example of these 'drawers' I was talking about...but like I said, you can find them everywhere.

As another poster stated you could get one of those huge wooden bedframes....if you have the room for them. Stapling the matting back one is useless. Ferrets can scratch right through it. As a matter of fact I have several holes in my actual bed from my ferrets. :( They can scratch through any material they want if the will is there. Again...ferret proofing is very important. Offering good places for your fuzzies to sleep is also very important.

Is it normal for ferrets to twitch a whole bunch?

Since fuzzies sleep so much, they must dream right? Yes, they do dream. Occasionally, when the ferret is sleeping, you will notice him twitching - this is when your ferret is dreaming. Sometimes ferrets make little dooking or whinning noises when they are asleep, this is also a sign of a ferret dreaming.

When they sleep their body temperature goes down so when they wake up they shake to raise their body temperature back up. Ferrets have a high metabolism and their body temperature drops naturally during sleep. If your ferret is shivering after she wakes up, relax. It’s a perfectly normal response that helps to bring her body temperature back up. These shivers may last as long as 20 minutes. If your ferret is consistently shivering for longer periods of time, you should speak with your veterinarian about it.
