My Friend Got A Dog With An Extra Toe

Dog growing an extra toe?

On rare cases dogs will re-grow their dew claws that were removed as a lil pup. Usually they don't grow all the way like your dog & will stay under the skin or just barely poking thru. Nothing to worry about only clip like regular nails.

My dog has an extra back toe?

Well I just adopted a 2 and a half year old female White Canadian Shepherd mix. I have had her for two weeks now and I noticed that she has "thumbs" on her back legs. They are kinda hanging like and I wasnt sure because my other dog doesnt have this and I have never seen a dog that had five toes in the back and front. Only 5 in the front and 4 in the back, but she has 10 toes instead of 8.
This is a picture of her:

And her back foot:

And the toe I was talking about:

Okay I know she has a cut on her toe and if the link doesnt work let me know.

My dog has a couple of extra toes?

Are you talking about toes or dew claws?

Add: We have a small Poodle mix that was born with back dew claws and had them removed when he was neutered at about 6-7 months old. Since you got your dog from a shelter, he probably already is neutered, but you might want to think about having them removed anyway. The back dew claws are not attached in the same manor as the front, so the removal of them is much easier. They would still probably want to put him under general anesthetic, and he would have a few stitches where the claws are removed. Our little guy and Vet Wrap on his leg for several days when he had the procedure done.

Do wolves have extra toes?

i bought a high bred wolf puppy, and she has extra toes on the back feet is that normal

i will post pictures later in about 20 min or sooner so watch my question

A puppy with an extra toe on his back foot?

I just noticed that my puppy has an extra toe on his back right foot, is there something I should do about it? (or should I just leave it alone?) A family friend told me that sometimes puppies get "hang-nail claws" and that you have to clip them off, but that sounds kind of painful... He isn't very old, and he's probably only mine until he is old enough to leave his mother and I find him a home. (My friend's dog had puppies and she gave the dog and the puppies to me to find them a home - the puppies not the dog.)

Another question: I have a male dog, should I keep him away from the puppies? He wants to be with the puppies constantly so I have to keep the mother shut in a room (she barks when she wants out.) He's never hurt an animal, but he has been known to steal a kitten from a stray cat. I'm mainly concerned because his breed is known for hunting small animals, and I'm not sure what he was used for before I rescued him (he had an abusive home.)

Thank you to anyone that helps.

My shihtzu has an extra toe?

Don't worry about your dog's extra toe, some dogs have it. I have a friend that has a cat with an extra toe and she also licks it. Your shihtzu finds it wierd to have an extra toe, thats all. About the pigment part, it is normal for your dog to have different colored pigments in the paw. Having pink pigment means that it is still a baby dog and having black pigment means that your dog is mature. Although i have a 7years old collie, he still has a mixture of pink and black pigment.

Hope it helped,

Why does my friend's dog follow me all around?

Do you tend to ignore the dog most of the time? If so, then his behaviour is because he wants you to like him!Submissive dogs tend to lick and groom more dominant dogs. If we as humans go straight up to a dog and pet them and make a fuss, we're also saying “I'm not a threat, I want to be friends with you” and you're definitely saying you're not dominant. I'm one of those humans because I can't help but fuss a cute dog. My brother in law, on the other hand, comes into my house and totally ignores all doggy advances and eye contact. The dogs are all over him! They want him to notice them and give them attention! If they have to wait they love it even more when it comes because they have had to ‘earn’ it! (funnily enough, cats always seem to like people who ignore them too).I have 2 dogs. They are my dogs, my babies. I feed them, walk them, take them out places, play with them, spend most of my time with them (I work mainly from home). But in the evening when me and my husband sit on the sofa, my labrador always asks to come onto the sofa and he waits to be invited. I pat the sofa and say “come on then”. He ignores me and looks at Daddy. My husband does it and he jumps up and cuddles up next to him. Well it's nice to be appreciated - ha!So yeah you could be giving off dominant dog vibes without realising it and that is why they are trying to get in your good books. lucky you!

My dog has 6 toes on it's hind feet?

He is a chow chow golden retriever mix. So there is a small extra toe on each of his back feet with fully formed pads and nails, however they are boneless.

Does anyone have a scientific explanation for this ???

If a dog has an extra toe on its feet is it an indication of inbreeding?

There puppies actually but most were born with the chicken claw on their foot. I know in humans an extra finger means they had a history of inbreeding so I'm assuming the same holds true with dogs. Though it is interesting to know that dogs are decendents of coral and worms instead of fish like us humanoids
