My Glands On The Back Of My Head Are Swollen Large Like 6 Cm And Very Painful. I M Not Sick Just

Swollen lymph node on the neck for months, what could it be?

A2A, but I'm hesitant to perform medical consults on quora since there's an enormous lack of information, most importantly. However, I concur with the other respondents in that a swollen lymph node may be absolutely benign, for example as a result of a mononucleosis infection. Sometimes a lymph node just stays big, for no apparent reason. The fact that yours is firm isn't necessarily worrisome either; it's their normal consistency. Some things for you to check:- If the node hurts when you press it. If it does, it's a good sign, although I realise the node being there already for 1.5 month may have caused it to not hurt anymore when pressing it.- If the node increases in size- Alarm symptoms are: loss of apetite, weight loss, fever for no apparent reason, night sweats, pain in the lymph node when drinking alcoholic beverages (I know it sounds weird, but it's true)And if you stay worried, just ask your doctor to perform some quick blood tests, like a full blood count and an erythrocyte sedimentation rate.Good luck!

6yr old swollen lymph nodes in neck for 6 months?

Hi There

This is exactly the question I was going to post!! My 6 yr old also has swollen lymph nodes on the left side of his neck, and its been sending me insane. He's had them for about 4 months and like you, I don't remember him even being ill to start with. I've taken him to 2 doctors and they have both said its nothing to worry about, but its soo hard not to worry. I've been looking on the internet and reading the worst case scenario's (probably not the best thing to do!!) and I've become paranoid! But apart from that he is well. I just wanted to say, hang in there, its nice to know you're not the only one, makes it feel less worrying somehow! I did read a post somewhere on the internet that children under 11 very often have swollen lymph nodes, so much so that it is almost expected. I also read that they did an experiment somewhere and tested a group of about 30 children and the results were 100% of them had swollen lymph nodes! The one other point of interest that I read, was that they are not really classed as enlarged unless they reach about 2.5cm!

Having said all that, I just wish the little blighters would go down!!!

Swollen Lymph nodes for 3 weeks?

Go to the doctor, you probably have an infection that can be taken care of with antibiotics. The doctor will probably run some tests to find out whats going on. Also check to see if you have any other swollen lymph nodes (groin, underarm, collarbone, back of the neck).
Usually with lymphoma the lymph nodes are hard and won't move very much when you touch them. However, when I was diagnosed I had one hard lymph node and one rubbery one both near my collarbone.

It sounds like you have an upper respiratory infection which would cause the swollen lymph nodes, nasal congestion, and sneezing, but only your doctor can tell you for sure.

How can wisdom teeth cause swollen lymph nodes?

Swollen lymphnodes indicate the presence of an infection, they are usually tender, except in some infections they may be stony hard(tuberculosis),in malignancies they are often non tender.Certain tumors also spread(metastasize) via the lymphatics and hence lymph nodes may be swollen or enlarged.Tumors which arise in itself from lymphoid tissue can cause the same.Dental infections very commonly cause lymph node enlargement where the neck meets the jaw, called the submandibular lymph nodes, anterior teeth and tongue infections may cause enlargement of the submental lymph nodes.See below for a good idea of lymphnodes commonly involved in dental infections and malignancies.Image form Google search.

Is my friend dying? OB GYN or Cancer related?

She needs to go back to the OB/Gyn clinic and ask for an immediate referral to an outside specialist. She should not wait any longer or let them put her off further with no answers. Without having all of the information, she sounds like she may have had a blighted ovum where the baby stops growing and is reabsorbed but the body continues to try to hold the pregnancy, or she could have a trophoblastic disease where the placenta degrades and forms grape like structures that can become cancerous. I worry because she has been given no direction and obviously there is something wrong that needs attention. I am surprised they didn't suggest a D&C , but there may be other things going on that are unrelated to the apparent pregnancy that is no longer viable. That doesn't mean she should just stay home and wait to see. Her husband needs to go with her to the clinic and ask for a referral if they are unwilling to tell her what is next. I also dealt with the Army clinics for a pregnancy that went badly and she is going to have to be her own advocate and say She wants another doctor, NOW. This could be minor, but it could also be a major life threatening illness if it is indeed a hydidaform mole pregnancy. This is not the time to play nice and wait. She needs to see the Head of the Department or get an outside referral.

2nd degree burn healing...?

I had a 1" by 1" 2nd degree burn on my finger from cooking oil.I had it treated straight away and had it bandaged with jelonet. It was removed a few days ago, along with tbe bandage, to dry out. Now, the burn has dead, hard skin over it, with a little, tender pink area in the middle. the skin is now peeling off, and a little bit had peeled off where the tender bit is, and is bleeding. I touch the pink bit, and it turns white, there are no red lines tapering and no green pus, so it doesnt seem infected. I have re wrapped it in melolin dressing strapped with microporus tape to keep it clean, i was just wondering if the bleeding was a cause for concern, and if it seems healthy, or should I go back to the minor injuries unit. thank you. :]

If a suddenly-appearing lump doesn't grow, can it still be cancer?

Did you have a fall on your hand or on your side recently? Do you remember actually ever breaking your clavicle, perhaps as a kid? most often than not, the clavicle does not heal smoothly but leaves a bump and it might not even appear straight anymore. It could be just that.

When you say that the x-ray did not reveal anything its puzzling however, coz that means that it is not the bony lump you are describing. A bone would be surely evident on x-ray, and bone cancer would be immediately visible. A CT is more commonly conducted to either see the extent or confirm a diagnosis of bone cancer or else a soft tissue tumour is suspected.

A soft tissue tumour can still feel "hard" especially in places where there isn't much space for expansion. It could simply be a lipoma ( a benign fat tumour) or something equally insignificant.

Of course without seeing you, your history and your investigations, it is impossible to reassure you completely. However i suggest you try to keep as calm as possible and trust your doctors. Bone cancer is very rare and growing in just a month is close to impossible. I wish you all the luck!
