My Hair Care Routine Opinions

In your personal opinion, how old is too old to have long hair?

I had light auburn hair which I always wore long or coiled up. My personal opinion, at the age of 60’ish, was that my long hair made me look like mutton dressed as lamb, so I had it cut. An action that I still regret 26 years later! My husband said, as did several friends, “What have you done with your beautiful hair?” He’d never commented on my hair before, in nearly 40 years of married life! I thought, “Now he tells me!”It’s not curly, but I do have strong waves in my hair (still auburn, thanks to modern hair products!) and these waves do what they want to do regardless of my wishes. I tell you, this hair of mine has it’s own ideas! Because I found long hair easier to control, I have tried to grow it back several times, but the inbetween stage has always defeated me, that and various happenings in my life, when it wasn’t the right time to attempt to grow it. No hairdresser seems able to give me a hairstyle which controls my unruly locks, but I now have a very short style which is easier to control, but still likes to have it’s own way. However, looking around at the other women living in this retirement village, I consider myself very fortunate that my hair is still reasonably thick, as so many of them have very thin hair. Two women, in particular, are almost bald, poor souls! My auburn hair, much lighter than it used to be, suits me. I have tried white, which does nothing for my very fair skin, hence still auburn! Some women here look great with lovely pure white hair, others it doesn’t suit at all, like me.So all in all, despite my daily morning battle, I’m fortunate, and thankful, to still have hair like mine at my age, short though that hair may be!

What is your opinion of applying coconut oil to hair daily? How often should I wash my hair?

If your hair is dry and brittle, chances are you are not consuming enough fresh water. Water helps to keep the entire body hydrated, including hair and skin. As we age, hormone health plays a significant part in the health of hair as well.Eat for your best hair health by including lots of healthy fats, drinking plenty of water, and using natural hair care products, including coconut oil for hair, instead of dangerous chemical laden shampoos, conditioners or styling agents.Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants, and has antiviral, anti fungal, and antibacterial properties. When used on hair, it improves scalp health, fights infections and fungus, supports hair growth, all while adding volume and shine without the common harmful chemicals. If you look on the ingredient labels of many of your favorite cosmetics and hair products, you will find coconut oil listed. However, most cosmetics and hair products also contain other ingredients that can be harmful to your health, while actually damaging your hair and skin. The harsh chemicals in commercial hair care products can leave your hair flat, dry, and damaged. Adding coconut oil in small amounts simply isn’t enough. So avoid traditional products and add coconut oil to your regimen along with your favorite natural organic shampoos and products. While some of these healthier hair products may cost a little more, the good news is that food-grade coconut oil is safe, affordable, and can effectively replace many hair care products in your cabinets.Read more at5 Best Uses of Coconut Oil for Hair - Dr. AxeCoconut Oil for Hair | Organic Facts

Your opinions on Accutane?

I'm on my second treatment of Accutane; my acne came back after about four to five months of finishing my first round. Accutane really does work, chances are if you give Accutane a go your acne won't come back - although not everyone who takes it is so lucky...Those issues you found are really uncommon; your dermotologist will be monitoring your health every few months checking your blood samples that you will need to give and asking you how it is all going. Your dermotoligist knows all the risks, will talk to you about them and will do his/her best to make sure that being on Accutane will be as safe as possible.
I personally haven't had any issues with Accutane apart from dry skin which can end up being seriously annoying. But if you remember to use lotion on your skin, special shampoo for dandruff and reqularly use chapstick on your lips then you shouldn't have much of a problem. If you go on Accutane and get really bad dry skin then your dermotologist can prescribe ointment or can lower the dosage just enough to give your dry skin a break. Also, its really important to use a lot sunscreen lotion while using Accutane because you can get sunburnt quite easily.

In your opinion, what is the most fundamental skincare product you can use every day?

In my opinion, the most fundamental skincare product is not a moisturizer, a cleanser, an exfoliant or a toner. It is honey. And I’m perfectly aware that it may seem weird. But I believe that honey facial mask is the best thing ever happening to my skin. When I was in my teenage years, I felt quite uncomfortable because of my not-that-bad acne. A friend of mine (she has flawless skin) told me that she regularly applies honey on her face and I decided to try it as well.I applied a lot of honey on my face (especially on my forehead where most of my pimples appeared) and, as my friend advised me to do, was about to go to bed. However, right after the application, the honey started to melt and my hair, my pajamas, my pillow case, actually my entire bed got sticky and I had to give up, so I just went to take a shower, changed my bedding and finally went to sleep. So, my first honey experience wasn’t any good.Several weeks later I decided to try the honey mask again, this time I applied a lot smaller amount and left it for 2–3 hours on my facial skin. At first, my skin got irritated and a bit reddish but after a while, it became very soothe. I also noticed that the honey got only partly absorbed. There was a lot of residue on the skin surface. When I washed the honey, I wasn’t very impressed, as usual, my expectations were higher. And, as usual, high expectations really fuck us up. Because I once again gave up.The third honey try was only 2 days later and it was because of the improvement I noticed the day after the 2–3-hour-application. My pimples started healing, they were diminishing in sizes and the irritation I experienced all day every day disappeared as well. The effect was not immediate, I can tell you for sure. But my skin got better every single day. Back then, I applied this mask at least 2 times a week. What I forgot to mention is that the acne scars on my face started fading as well. I did not have a lot of scars tho. But the ones I did have were very deep (depressed) and reddish in color. Their improvement happened much slower. It was visible after 6–7 months of regular application. So, since then, since I was able to appreciate all the benefits I could get from this simple product, the raw honey became my fundamental skincare product. I’m now 26 (more than 10 yrs later), and I’m still satisfied with the results. I don’t have acne anymore, but after every single application, my skin feels rejuvenated and nourished.I hope more people would give it a try!

Clinique 3-step Opinions/Reviews?

The tough thing about this is what may work for me won't necessarily work for you because of different skin types (I have combination skin). Now acne may be somewhat hereditery but there are certain things you can you to minimize the impact of the acne. First off, washing your face so often can actually make your acne worse because when you wash away the natural oils onyour face, it unbalances the balance of your skin and your skin has to overcompensate by overproducing more oils which results in more acne. Wash your face at night only and in the morning, just splash a bit of water on your face but don't over do anything. Unless you've been out splashing around in the mud, your face is NOT dirty. The first time I started washing my face in my teens is when I actually started developing acne... As for the clinique 3 step system, I would go to the clinique desk and ask for a sample set first which they usually give for free. They will assess your skin and give you the 3 steps which are proper for yor skin. I have used it and I found it to be just ok- nothing special. I actually found the toner to be really irritating and drying and caused more breakouts at times. But it may work really well for you. Try a sample! The best product I ever used for acne is the ocean salt scrub from the Lush store which is AMAZING. The sea salt, lime juice and vodka kills your blemishes and exfoliates so well so your pores aren't plugged up. You shouldn't use it more than twice a week though as a scrub/face wash because it is potent and could hurt your skin if you over-use it. You can even use it as a spot treatment because the sea salt will dry out the zit without killing your skin. So in conclusion, be careful that your not washing your face too much because it can make the situation worse and don't use harsh irritating soaps and give the 3 setp system a try. But- try BEFORE you buy!

Ladies, how many days do you go without washing your hair?

That is very normal if she flat irons her hair. When I don't flat iron my hair, I was it every other day. If I do flat iron it, I go 3 to 4 days. If you check with any quality salon, that is what they recommend. The only exception would be if she were a smoker or for some other reason her hair smelled really bad.

Don't believe the person that wrote about the lice, that is not true. Someone can wash their hair every day and still get lice, especially if it is a child in day care or a kid in school. Trust me, I used to work in a Day Care and even the Dr.'s and lawyers kids got lice.

For anyone who uses Organic Root Stimulator hair products is it safe to use on color treated hair?

It's definitely fine to use ORS hair products on color treated hair. My hair is not color treated but has a rinse in. The free hair care forum I subscribed to has tons of females on there who is relaxed & colored treated and have ORS as one of their top staple product(s). That is great you are trying to cut out products that have harsh and unnecessary ingredients like SLS. So far I am able to cut out alot of products in my regimen that have mineral oil, lanolin, petroleum, SLS and parabens. It's hard since more than half of all hair products have those ingredients, there are hair products out there that contain nothing but natural ingredients that are sold in salons like "Trade Secrets" but they can be expensive. As for the ORS Uplifting shampoo, this is a clarifying shampoo that should be used no more than once a month, twice if you get lots of build up quick, clarifying shampoos can be very drying because it clears out all the silicones from the products, oils and other stuff that are stuck on the scalp. This shampoo is also fine to use on color treated hair.

What is your opinion on the statement "looks doesn't matter"?
