My hamster makes really weird noises while he sleeps, what does it mean?

Is the noise sort of a chewing noise?

He might be regurgitating and eating the food that he has stored in his cheek pouches.

My hamster makes weird sounds and i dont no wat this means?

Your hamster is making that sound for one of two reasons: He is in pain, or he is very frightened.

If you don't have a hamster book, get one and read it right away. It's only a few bucks and it can literally be a life saver!

If he is new, he needs a week or so to get used to his new home. Don't stress him out by trying to lift him up or bother him until he gets more settled in. Stress can make them get diarea and die!

If he has been dropped by accident then you should see a vet, because he is probably crying from pain. Syrian hamsters can get injured very easily from small falls.

If he only screams when you try to pick him up, you should leave him alone and try again later. If he is screaming and you try to lift him, he will eventually bite you and it hurts like hell! If he flips on his back when you try to lift him, he is warning you to get away, too.

Also, make sure you are not using wood shavings for litter, especially red cedar. If he's not screaming, then he could be wheezing from bad litter. Cedar is toxic and kills small animals over time. I recommend using carefresh or another paper-based litter that has no scented perfumes.

One last thing, don't try to handle him except at night. They get very stressed and sick when people wake them up during the day. Hamsters need to have peaceful and quiet sleep during the day, or they can also get very mean from the stress. Try offering him a little treat at night time. After a while, he won't mind being handled. I have two hamsters (in separate cages, of course) and they are both very nice, but they were scared when I first got them. They just need time!

PS- don't forget to buy that book!!!!!

Why is my hamster making squeaking noises?

My little hamster Stuart has been making this squeaky slight popping noise, it only happens when he wakes up and moving around, when he sleeps i dont hear a peep out of him, also he is constantly cleaning his paws and his paws appear to be wet or red, please help i am so wooried about my little Stuart, :(

Hamster Noises and Body Language?

1) Hamsters have more noises than just growls and screams. Many hamster owners will tell you this. It seems that some hamsters make them, and some do not. The growls and screams are simply louder. Many hamster noises aren't even detectable by human ears. However, an owner sitting in a very quiet room will often hear a variety of noises - from squeaks, to teeth clicking (bruxing), to sniffing. None of these are aggressive as the hamster is by himself when he makes them. Many hamsters squeak. They seem to do this for a variety of reasons. They squeak when they're scared, in pain, or just while they're exploring a freshly changed cage/tank (kind of like their way of saying "Oh my god!" ). They make a sound similar to a rats bruxing. Many people notice their hamster making it while they're relaxed. There are many aggressive/warning sounds (from hissing to squealing). I think the sniffing is just the hamster exploring the environment. Their eyesight is poor, so they rely on their sense of smell. I hear my hamster making a kind of "sniffing" noise throughout the night. Nothing is near her tank to distress her, so clearly, it is not a warning of any kind. It's a very common noise.
2) See above.
3) It's normal, but it's preventable. The reason she is flinching away is because you are startling her. This goes back to hamsters having poor eyesight. They cannot see our hand coming until it's right in front of their face. If you had a hand suddenly in front of your face and didn't see it coming, you'd flinch away, too! The fact that she's not biting you is a good sign, but you still don't want to scare her because one day, she might. (Nevertheless, it sounds like she's pretty tame) Instead of going to pet her, start offering your hand to her. Just put it in the bedding and allow her to come to you. This way, you will not surprise her with a hand just suddenly in her face. Also, when you pick her up, don't do so from the top - scoop her up. Once again, to prevent that "sudden" hand. The sniffing is normal, too. That's just her checking you out and as long as it's not followed by biting, is a good thing.

What do the squeaking noises my hamster is making mean?

Some hamsters do squeak for random issues, but sometimes an adult will squeak because it’s annoyed, irritated, in pain, or stressed for some reason. Some hamsters are more vocal than others. Sometimes a juvenile will squeak because it might be lonely or afraid. Have you given its cage a thorough cleaning recently? Some hamsters get a little stressed when you clean out their “safe spot.” Just make sure there isn’t a medical issue. If its eyes are still bright, no discharge, etc. he’s probably ok, but if your instinct tells you that not all is happy in Hamsterville, I would make an appointment with your vet.

My hamster fell from a high position and went to a corner to sleep. Will it die?

If your hamster fell from a high place and subsequently went over to a corner of the room and went to sleep, it may have suffered internal injuries. In that case it will very likely die. But maybe it just got exhausted from going up so high and coming down again the hard way.All you can do is to give it a nice place to live. Refurbish its cage. Get some clean litter. Make sure it has clean water and just a little food to nibble on. Eating a huge meal probably wouldn’t be a good idea if it has suffered minor internal injuries. On the other hand if it is still alive after a day or two you can probably resume normal feeding.I had a cat when I was in grad school. She was so tough that she once fought a squirrel and skinned its tail. I was living with a group of grad students. One of them had a hamster in a cage upstairs. One day I was in the dining room when I heard a funny sort of barking sound coming from the kitchen. I went in there and discovered the pet hamster facing off with my cat. I rescued the hamster and took it back to its mistress. She worked in a lab at the university with lots of hamsters, so I guess I know how she got her pet. I told her my story about hearing the funny barking noise and this human said, “You mean it went ‘Shhtonk’?” She had made a very accurate imitation of what must be the typical hamster threat display noise.I always wondered whether the hamster had come down the staircase step by step or whether it had gotten through a hole in the wall, had fallen to the level of the kitchen below, and then had found another way out.Maybe hamsters can survive falling that far, but I doubt it. Their mass in in a compact ball, and their little short legs couldn’t do much to break their fall. But if your hamster survives then try to keep it caged up. Little animals like that have no clear idea of the risk they may be taking.

My hamster is making a coughing/sneezing noise?

I recently got a new hamster (named Gizmo) and when he got home I took him out of the box he came in and he just randomly froze a few times. It's been about three days and he's stopped doing that but he has started coughing/sneezing. He looks perfectly fine, no signs of illness, but he was just eating a treat and he leaned over to pick in u and he sneezed/coughed three times in a row. He did this the day I got him as well. I don't know if this is normal, so please answer!
