Headphone jack not working?

Humm that sounds odd. is it a laptop or a desktop? Are you using the headphone ports on your speakers or on the computer? if on the computer are you using the front port's or the back ports? lol sorry to answer your question with questions. But if u email me with these answers maybe i can help u out further. but if not heres what i think

If its through the speakers head phone jack then you may have something wrong with them in witch case it may be an electrical short or so on, something i wouldnt know how to fix

If through your front ports on your computer, They go bad all the time due to bad wiring by the maker of the computer case it self. so try the back ports. The back ports are connected to the main component through the computer

If the back ports dont work on your computer means something has went wrong with your mother board and if its a dell, hp, mac and so on i would call about a warnty issue or something.

So please email me, Im sure i can figure it out

How do you fix headphones that are not working when connected to your laptop? How do you determine if it is the headphones themselves or the headphone jack?

Easy, plug the headphones into a known working device, like an MP3 player or phone to see if they work there. If so, it's not the phones. If you have another pair of headphones (or even earbuds from the above phone/MP3 player), plug those into the laptop and see if they work there. If so, it's your original headphones at fault. If not, it's the laptop, either software settings or perhaps the jack (a common weak spot on many laptops) - try wiggling the plug around, if it intermittently makes sound, the jack may need replacing. Sometimes the iFixit website has instructions and parts sources. The Free Repair ManualIn general, I wouldn't even bother trying to repair the headphones if they're at fault, as many use tiny enameled wires that you can't fix without a solder pot, and if the drivers are blown the replacement cost would probably exceed the cost of a new pair. You can always check for the resistance of the drivers with a small multimeter, either at the plug or where the wires connect inside the earcups, it'll probably be somewhere between 8 and 100 ohms and they should be identical from side to side. If not, this also means it's time to shop for a new pair.

Computer headphone jack not working?

Make sure you have the leatest sound card drives for your computer. The newer system will mute the Speakers when a head set is pluged in (frount or back).. Most of the time I see this problem is when someone reloads their system and uses the general drives that comes with the OS. On the other hand if your computer is an older model, i've seen some of them without the auto cutoff or mute. good luck

Your IT staff most likly install the generic sound drivers so you only have access to the general functions. Look to see if the sound manage in the in the start menu. If so the software will alow you to mute the back port while still leting the frount port to work. That may not be automatic but it should work if the software is there.

Why isn't my headphone jack working?

I think that you have Realtek drivers, and they tend to do this. I have a Dell laptop like this as well, this is how I fixed that.
Try this:

1. Click on the Windows start button
2. In the search box and type in Dell Audio
(At this point, a window might pop up, saying Which device did you plug in?, if not then go to step 3, if so, click on Headphone and click OK)
3. Go to Advanced
4. Go to Jack Information
5. Click on the black circle under the headphone symbol.
6. Click on Headphone
7. Click on OK

Unfortunately, you will have to do this every time you plug in the headphone jack. Also, when that message pops up, try clicking on that bubble.

Hope this works!

If my headphone jack isn't working, how do I fix it?

I've had this happen to me a couple times.First, try unplugging your headphones out and back in. Yes, sounds silly but sometimes it's that easy. (Happens sometimes if you can't seem to raise volume with keys on keyboard. If no luck...Try holding down the option key and click on the sound icon on the very top nav of your macbook. Doing this will reveal additional options(you can actually try this on most of the icons up there, like wifi). Check the "output device" and make sure it's not trying to send the audio elsewhere (such as apple tv). You should ideally see an option that says "headphones" on that list. Click it.If no luck..If you do not see headphones on the list described above, try a simple restart. That tends to get everything back to normal.

How come only one side of my headphones work?

They are broken. Sorry its a REALLY common thing, Ive had it happen to at least 5 pairs of mine. Either get new ones, take the old ones back, or just dont listen to your mp3. Im really really sorry but thats just the way it is.
