My Ka Engine Keeps Smoking

Why is grey smoke coming from my engine?

The three main types of smoke often seen coming from the exhaust are:Black. (indicating a rich air/fuel mixture)White. And dissipates rapidly. Common in cold weather, and is caused by condensation in the exhaust system. But if noticed on warm days or after the engine is fully warmed up is an indication of burning coolant (will also have a bit of a sweet smell.)Blueish / Grey. Is an indication of burning oil. Commonly caused by oil blowing by the piston rings, or worn leaking valve seals / valve stem guides.

My KA engine keeps smoking?

I have a 2002 Ford KA but I noticed today that It keeps smoking from the engine. It also smells like burning rubber, the engine does not feel hot but its was really heave smoke. The colour of it was like smoke that came out of a cigarette. Anyone know what it could be or if it still safe to drive???

I am trying to remove a 4Cyl 2.4L KA24E Engine from my 1992 Nissan Pickup, but it won't come OUT! Why, Nissan

Trying to remove the 4Cyl 2.4L KA24E Engine from the Nissan Pickup is very, very hard. It's a 1992.

Unbolted the Transmission from behind the engine. Removed the Starter, Unbolted the Motor Mounts.

The Oil Pan didn't want to clear the Front Axle, but we managed to jack it up onto the top of the Axle so it's riding it now.

But now the Engine is wedged. It won't pop out of there!

The Transmission and Engine appear to be uncoupled. You can see the Flywheel.

Should we shove the Engine back down and pull the Oil Pan off?

Dammit Nissan! This is not being friendly at all.

Any ideas?

Which is the best sr engine and why?

There always seems to be confusion as to what a “black top” SR20DET really is, and what makes it different from the “red top” SR20DET. Here are a few pointers so you can impress your friends with how much you know about Nissan motors.

Years-
S13 red tops: 91-94
S13 black tops: Late 94-98
S14 notch tops: 95-98
S15 notch tops: 99-01

Alas, the changes/advantages of the s13 Blacktop:*

-Newer
-Usually lower mileage
-Usually about $500 more expensive (because its newer)
-Minor ECU changes 96-98 (interchangeable with all s13 ECU’s)
-Minor wire harness changes
-Larger Oxygen Sensor (still narrow band, no performance gain)

There seems to be a misconception that S13 black tops have Variable Valve Timing and Garrett T28 Turbochargers, this is simply a confusion with the S14 notch top motor (also call black tops by some) and is not true.

i also wanna add something...there is a minor cosmetic difference in the S13 redtops...the 90.5-92 motors were a bit different around the head of the motor between the cams (look between the half moon seals on yer cams...theyre VERY hard not to see lol)...the early SRs DO NOT have the heat sink fins that the later motors do...this was just added by nissan to help disapate the heat caused at the end of the head a lil better...the 93-99 S13 redtops/blacktops all have the fin design...so hey hey if u have the fins u have a newer redtop =)

88-90.5-CA18det (S13 and 180sx T25 turbo 182hp 180tq 7psi)

90.5-94.5-SR20det Redtop (S13 silvia and 180sx T25 turbo 210hp 207tq 7psi)

94.5-96-SR20det Blacktop (SilEighty NISMO cams T28 turbo 242hp 234tq 10psi only 400 ever made)

95-99-SR20det Blacktop (180sx T25 turbo 210hp 207 tq 7psi)

95-98-SR20det Notchtop (S14 blacktop T28 turbo VVT intake cam 232hp 224tq 7psi)

99-02-SR20det Notchtop (S15 blacktop T28 turbo VVT intake & exhaust 252hp 243tq 10psi)

What does it mean when white smoke is coming out from the exhaust?

It is likely one of two things:Unburnt fuel. You should be able to smell this easily if you get anywhere near it. You might even be able to smell it while still inside the vehicle. It smells like gasoline. Depending if the car has a carburetor or fuel injection, there can be several different causes for this.Water vapor. Depending on how intense the vapor is, it is either normal (small amounts visible on a cold day, quickly disappearing), or abnormal (large amounts, visible independent of the weather, and does not disperse quickly). If it is abnormal, it is likely coolant (aka antifreeze) entering the combustion chamber, through a cracked block, cracked head, or blown head gasket.

How to cool down engine bay? ?

Two underhood heat adders are the radiator and the exhaust.

Sometimes you can wrap the exhaust (bad because it will help rot steel much faster, voids all header warranties because of it) to keep the heat in, and that's good for more than just a cooler underhood.

Radiator not much you can do about that. NORMALLY a fan will move the hot air out of the engine bay by "pressurizing" the engine bay, forcing the hot air down under the car.

Why are you trying to cool down the engine bay? It's pretty hard to make meaningful gains in lowering underhood temps. A cooler thermostat might help in this regard, but waste more gas.

Is a nissan RB26DETT engine street legal in the US?

Ok...here's the real truth.

Is the RB26DETT street legal in the U.S.?

No it isn't.

Does that mean you can't put it in your car?

No it doesn't.

There are plenty of people that run RB engines in their cars. It's just a matter of where you life.

Places that do smog checks know that the RB engines are not legal as they were never used in the U.S. Plus, the RB engines do not have EGR systems.

You would have to have the ECU, wiring harness, ignitor chip, coil packs and custom motor mounts.

If you want to put an RB26 into a 240, you also have to make it a RWD set up and that involves removing the oil pan/front differential and doing modifications to an RB25DET oil pan and you also have to use an RB25 transmission as the RB26 trans has a transfer case mated to it.

It's not a budget build engine because you're looking at anywhere in the range of $6k-$10k to get the engine, get it in, mounted, wiring run, and the car running.
