My Laptop Wont Play Dvd Or Play Cds Anymore How Can I Fix This

How do you fix a laptop that won't play DVDs?

There are many possibilities that it's not playing dvd's.First of all, the question is, does it really have the hardware do play dvd??All laptops in these days are dvd supported. If your laptop is old (very old) then it must be that it would play only cd's and not dvd's.If the laptop isn't that old and has the hardware to play dvd's then there must be something wrong with drivers.Update the drivers by right clicking the "my pc"/" my computer" -> manage -> device manager -> then look for something like dvd-cd controllar or something like that. Selsct it and go to the properties. There's an option to update the drivers. If drivers are already up to date then uninstall them and install them again.

DVD's wont play on my Lenovo laptop anymore?

Right click and uninstall theCD-ROM, DVD ROM driver in the device manager and restart the computer. The operating system would attempt to install the required driver automatically. If this does not happen, manually download and install the driver. If even replacing the driver does not fix it, get a technician to look for a hardware problem in the disk tray/lens.
Hey, I enjoyed your question, I have worked as a technician most of my life, I hope I have helped you...You may email me at mayray40@Yahoo.com

Alienware Laptop 15x wont play DVDs?

It will play games and mixed media(burned CDs and DVDs) but not store bought movies. The Dell trouble shooting thing says to close all these programs: Roxio family of products
Power DVD
WinDVD
Media Direct
Windows Media Player
Nero Burning ROM
I make sure they are closed, can they run in the background possibly? What should I look for in possess or services? Is there any other reason why they would not play?
Also the disks tend to eject themselves if they are DVDs.

My laptop won't play CDs ! ?

When I had this happen to my laptop it was because I installed a software that mucked my computer up. So, I restored the PC back to a point before I installed the software.

Thats what I do, do a restore on it and get it back a month or so (or to whenever the PC was working) and then see if that helps.

Do people even still buy CD's and DVD's anymore?

With so many online options of purchasing movies and songs, like Xbox Live movie services and ITunes and even YouTube... do people still even buy CD's and DVD's anymore?

How can you fix a DVD player that won't read a disc?

Sometimes if you are lucky a DVD player or drive that won't read a disc might not be broken, instead might just need a cleaning. I had an old server that stopped reading discs in its DVD drive. When I looked more closely I saw it was quite dusty. Even though you shouldn't touch the lens, I went ahead and gently swiped my finger across the lens and that fixed the problem. I was able to do this because my drive is like a laptop drive where it comes out and you can see it, many players/drives won't do this. In the picture you can see my finger swipe in the dust. My recommendation is if the drive might be dirty, spend a couple bucks and get a CD/DVD cleaner. I do have one somewhere and it's basically a CD with little brushes on it that will sweep of the dust. Good luck.

My laptop isn't playing dvds?

Every time I put a dvd into my laptop, none of the programs I have installed to play dvds will play them. I know that they recognize it as a dvd, because it will begin to play it, then the program will stop responding and close. How can I fix this? Oh and if you need to know, it's a Dell Latitude D620. I have tried interactual player, windows media player, and realplayer. They all do the same thing.

Can my laptop burn cds?

Not all CD drives are burners. Just because the option is available on windows media player does not mean you have the correct drive. To find out if you can burn a CD or DVD:

On a computer: generally you can tell what kind of burner you have simply by looking at the drive. If it’s a CD-RW drive, you’ll see the word CD-RW or CD-R or the phrase Compact Disk Re-writable marked on the front of the drive. If it’s a DVD burner, you’ll see DVD-RW or DVD-R or DVD+RW marked on the drive.

If you can’t tell from looking at the drive, right click on My Computer and select properties. Then click on the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. You’ll be able to tell what type of drive you have from the list of devices on your system.

If it says CD or DVD Ram drive or Burn, CD-R drive, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW. then you are ok. But it if only says CD then you may not. They sometimes don't label them correctly either.

Another way is to place a blank CD-R in the drive and click on the burn option on windows media player and see what it does.

Why isn't the DVD drive of my laptop reading any CDs?

This could be caused by a bad driver install. Even though the device registers as operational, that doesn’t mean that the motor to spin the DVD or the laser isn’t malfunctioning.First I would go to Device manager and uninstall the DVD drive. (Right click the device and click uninstall device) Then once that is done I would hit the scan for Hardware changes button to reinstall the DVD drive. Afterwards reboot. If the above doesn’t fix it you are likely in need of a replacement.
